  • What are the telltale signs of spiritual abuse? And once you’ve been subjected to it, how do you heal?
On this edition of The Roys Report, Ken Garrett speaks out on recognizing and healing from spiritual abuse. He knows about spiritual abuse firsthand, having escaped a cult-like religious community years ago.
Ken is the pastor of Grace Church in Portland, Oregon-and he’s the author of In the House of Friends: Understanding and Healing from Spiritual Abuse in Christian Churches.

My family of origin 😢😢😢 It is very hard when these are your own parents! Even the more traumatic is when you leave and you stumble on other abusers and you conclude the problem is you!
I need help and do not find it!

There was nothing said about repentance…Acknowledging that we did NOT hear God because if we truly have a relationship with HIM, HE will guide us. Nothing said about truly connecting to JESUS, Who is the Author and Perfecter of our Faith. Jeremiah 17:5&7 “Cursed is the one who puts trust in man, who draws strength from mere flesh (ours or anyone else) and whose heart turns away from The Lord. 7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in THE LORD, whose confidence is in HIM.”

Best to lay the blame on the deceiver. Then work toward healthy religious practice. After that kind of abuse, it's a long haul to recovery.

The fragility of this modern crop of Christians is just stunning. Easy solution: don't put your faith in flawed, sinful humans who claim a relationship with Jesus but are secretly practicing what they preach against. Leave your faith in Jesus. Don't blame Him for the hypocrisy of what "squeaky clean" Christian leaders do. And don't play the victim or blame the bad guys in your life who hurt you in the past or conned you in the present for the foolish choices you made as an adult. Take responsibility for your own foolish choices. The devil didn't make you do it. You did. OWN IT!!

You have apparently never been completely betrayed and preyed on by a religious narcissist wolf who was hiding behind a pulpit.

@@pamelaknuutila1109 That is a terribly inaccurate statement. Over my 55 years as a Christian and in ministry, I have been betrayed by many Christians, even those in leadership and including my wife of 20 years. I'd offer you a "Jump to conclusions mat" but I'm all out.
