Appreciate the advice. My driveway is roughly 2,000sq/ft. Bought 6 pails. Used 5 and a sip to complete. Although you really can see where I didn’t keep a good wet edge. A second coat would probably do it but not happening this year. I used the 5 year one.
For future reference, if you get the yellow topped bucket (yes I know it's roughly $14 more per bucket) you can use an airless paint sprayer to seal your driveway. The product will cover roughly 650sqft per bucket and you're able to control how thick it is applied. It's also best if you do not apply this product in direct sunlight (wait for the cooler parts early morning or later afternoon).
Great video, thank you! Unfortunately it didn't showed up in my search beforehand,, Anyway, I have a 4 cars driveway, just slightly under 675 sq ft, and I fall for their 675 sq ft "used" driveway usage guide.. Sure enough after all actually spend for a first coat 2 1/4 buckets..Grrr.... Could do better if bought 2nd bucket prior and flip'em day prior.. So, 3d bucket, basically, went as a second coat for a driveway close to garage and covered just a half of the all driveway.. Will see how long will lasts..
We did a 1200 square foot driveway with two buckets. The driveway is from 1959. Not real rough, but not real smooth. But it didn't look like the product in the video. It looked more like black paint.
Good video. Yes the sealer does not go as far as one bucket states. I sealed my driveway about one year after I had it installed so it was in really good shape still. My driveway is approx 18’ wide by 56’ long. It took 3 1/2 buckets. After doing mine I did my grandmothers driveway for her and her driveway is at least 20-25 years old. Still in decent shape but a lot cracks and deep pitting. Any driveway that is older and not been sealed and has of bigger voids or pitting / weathered as I call it will use a lot more sealer so figure only about 300-SF of coverage per bucket / pale of sealer
One thing I should have done, not sure if it would have helped, but I applied this product on concrete and even if I parked the car over 4 hrs. later, in one area the coating stuck to the tire and pealed off. In other areas, while walking, the surface was still a little tacky and there was little bits. here and there that came off also with the boots. I guess the surface of concrete is way to dusty for this product to go on directly, even if it was very liquid. So basically it doesn't stick very well to concrete, in my situation anyway. I also found that rolling does a better. job and spreads a lot better. I tried at first with a squeegee, but the roller was way better the second time. I think when it comes to concrete, I should have sealed it first with a clear coat or something to lock the dust particles and then but the black sealer. On concrete, I was tempted to paint the driveway with concrete paint, maybe that would have done a better job. It took me 4 pales to do my laneway which was about 16 x 60 feet.
That sealer probably needs to cure slowly much like concrete or coal tar sealer so it probably needs to be low temperature and humidity and at least 45 degrees and Rising.
It's the term they used in the instructions on the bucket. Basically try to not let an edge dry before you continue on or it will leave marks. Tried to explain it in the video a few times but maybe it still wasn't clear. Good luck with your project!
@@Waynus888 Like as you are applying it, the edge between the part you are working on, and the part you haven't applied any to yet. If you let an edge dry completely before continuing on, it dries and then the new layer overlaps and leaves a noticeable line. Not talking about the edge of the driveway itself, but the edge of your finished vs unfinished sections as you are working on it.
Good point ... yeah you're probably right. I guess since I had to buy so much more than expected to do just 1 coat, I wasn't ready to invest that much more $$ to put on a 2nd! Will consider next time for sure though.
This is the reason why the manufacturer recommends the 2nd coat, the second coat goes really fast and it would have been only one more bucket for you just a fyi I been down this road before lol
This is so sad, people thinking this will do any improvement just because it turns black for a short period of time. Pouring a liquid as thin as water over asphalt won´t do any good. Demand better asphalt instead. Here in Sweden, a paved driveway will withstand over 50 years of use before cracking.
@@fixingrandomcrap thank you for replying sir. Just demand better quality products over there. I have no idea what type of asphalt mix you use, but anything less than 30 years in our winter conditions are bad. Hope you get your healthcare system working also. Best wishes from Sweden!

Great video, thanks for the pro tip of buying way more product to be safe.
Right on, buy lots and you can always take back what you don't use. Thanks for the note and good luck!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, the coverage details were frustrating for me as well for sure! Hope it lasts long! Mine is still in good shape!

Interesting. Maybe they changed the consistency in the last few yrs. Tks for the note!

Totally agree used same product in Australia used at least 4 times amount that they suggested
Glad to hear it wasn't just me! Tks for the note.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience! Good to know that this product doesn't mix well with concrete! Cheers and good luck!
Excellent Job :) Thank you very much for your sharing!
Thanks for the note! Much appreciated!
You should be trying to avoid sealing it in direct sunlight. It dries too fast and then you will see lap marks.
Good tip ... tks for the comment!
Nice job! Looks great.

How well has the rustoleum held up? Would you buy it again or try a different product? Thanks
Good so far! Still enduring it's 2nd winter, but generally still looks really good. Curious to see how it holds up by spring.
@@fixingrandomcrap thanks for the feedback Craig!
ty for application info
No prob! Tks for the note!!
How many jugs did you end up using?
How'd it hold up a year later?
Still looks pretty solid today!
So... its been a year. Is it still good?
Yep it still looks pretty good!!
Interesting. Thanks for the note!
need a double coat and you need some sand so when it is wet you won't fall.
Lol The ending was so cute
lol!
so its just a water based "sealer" that u have to reply each eh..
Why do you keep saying “wet edge”?

@@fixingrandomcrap ok thx
We have s 1000 ft driveway it took 4 buckets
1000 sq ft or 1000 ft long?
A second coat would have got rid of those lines.
