    the thing about 5+ gallons, the fish is much more active and fun to own in a bigger tank. in a bowl they just sit there, in a 5-10gallon they interact with their environment and you more

    This video is highly detailed but the cycle part wasn’t explained properly in my opinion. A lot of people would ask what to do if ammonia levels r there or are high.

    First things first, great video. But there's just a couple things I have to nitpick since this is geared towards beginners: 1.) Tank cycling. Not a lot of beginners know what this means. 2.) In regards to super glue, it's worth mentioning that it should be aquarium safe.

    You would probably have a heart attack if you saw how i took care of my first betta when i was a kid. 1 gallon tank. No filter. No heater. It lived for two years before it passed away. Now ive got 1 in a fluval spec V and its very happy.

    • @delena4evertvd267
      @delena4evertvd267 7 месяцев назад

      most people are like that with betta’s lol! everyone seems to just throw them in some bowl or bass with tap water and leave it at that and their fish last forever. but when i had betta’s as a kid and did the same, i swore they’d die after a couple months - a year. so now as an adult i’m tryna take better care of them. but the first one i had as an adult recently, died. so i have a new one now and i’m trying again lmfaao. i really just want a cute fishy to play with and watch swim around and i wanna keep it happy and healthy.

    Thank you so much for this video. So helpful! I am going to set up my first tank and this video really made it so easy for me to understand. Just a quick question, if i stick the rhizome plants on the rocks. Do I still need aquatic soil for substrate or can I use sand as substrate?

    • @zackabernathy4763
      @zackabernathy4763 7 месяцев назад

      You can get away with just aquatic substrate also you could add a inch and a half 2 inches would be better of sand on top really helps alot with the sand also ass it acts as another layer of filtration and also keeps the aquatic soil in place better as the soil will eventually break down and get kind of mushy works wonders for the beneficial bacteria and keeping ammonium levels down and nitrite and nitrate levels down without doing water changes often makes maintenance much easier

    For a beginner video, you probably lost people at that particular part, because you didn't actually explain what "cycling" is or why it is needed.

    I bought a betta and he is in a cycled 3 and 1/2 gallon tank. I want to move him into a 10 gallon aquarium when it is cycled... I will be putting a cycle sponge filter in it... What's the best way to transfer him? I will make sure the temperature is the same and I'm assuming the water parameters will be the same since I'll be using dechlorinated tap water.

    Can you recommend the food you would give them instead of the pellets? I have blood worms but Im not sure what you mean by "live foods". can you give some suggestions?

    • @vblackwell3347
      @vblackwell3347 10 месяцев назад

      Blood worms are meant to be a treat every few days. Bettas are carnivores. & need a variety of a few insect based foods. Try bug bites & a couple others. Live food is live as in worms, mosquitoe large, sting bugs, etc.

    y’all i had betta’s growing up as a kid but i feel i remember that they died quite often. like maybe within a couple months to a year.
    and now i’m an adult and i want to have a pet betta again. i got one from my aunty, he lasted a month with me and sadly passed away shortly after this last time i changed the water in his tank.
    i just bought a new a beta fish.
    i have ~about~ 2 gallons of water in his tank. i just put fresh tap water in it.
    i also bought this thing called “water conditioner for betta’s” and put the correct amount of drops in the tank.
    i have two colorful decorations in his tank. one is a fake rock he can hide in with colorful plants on it and the other is a brightly colored fake plant.
    his tank also has an LED light as one of the walls (the back wall) that can change color.
    and i’m gonna use a carbon filter in the tank.
    and i’m gonna wait overnight to add the fish to the tank. (for now he’s just gonna stay in the container the pet store had him in.)
    i’ve heard betta’s may need a heater in their tank but i live in Hawaii… and it’s summer rn. the “room temperature” water is already luke warm. it’s normally around 70°-80° here in Hawaii. so i don’t plan on putting a heater in the tank.
    is all of this okay for like a basic beta tank? ik most people get betta’s and just throw them in some bowl or vase with tap water and leave it at that and their fishes are fine for years but i wanna give my fish the best care i can. i don’t have a lot of money though so i’m just looking for the basics and bare minimum to make sure my fish is healthy and happy for as long as he shall live. any tips are appreciated!
