99 Yukon is a crusty old beast it was starting @ 13 below like new.256,000 miles. Thanks for showing us how I drove newer cars until retired and driving the old Yukon is fun,we won't be able to get big trucks someday
I know this is over a year old at this point, but eventually you are going to come across a no spark no fuel issue. It is almost certainly going to be the Ignition Control Module on the distributor, the crappy heatsink compound on the OEM part is one of the major issues, I used some nice artic silver the last time I replaced it and have had no issue since. I have the 95 suburban SLT with 265k miles. She shows her age but works great.
Yup,. My 94 K1500 had no spark and the fuel pump wouldn't kick on, it ended up being the distributor. How the heck did it shut the fuel pump down? I was ready to drop the tank, glad I didn't.
My truck was having the same issue and my mechanic told me to change that. It would randomly shut off while driving but would turn back on. I bought the D1984A and my mechanic said the truck would turn off more. Could it have been the D1943A? He put the old part it was having issues with and it went back to normal. Any feedback?
Hello 1 Road. I've recently just done a tuneup on my 95 chevy suburban. With a few extras such as; engine coolant temperature sensor, MAP sensor, Throttle position sensor, egr valve, pcv valve and idle air control. As well as new ignition cool, thermostat, water pump and everything a/c related. Great video, thanks for sharing! Keep up the keep up.
Check ALL ground connections. There are several. Firewall to back of engine is often overlooked and can cause a variety of problems. You can add additional ground wires and that is something I highly recommend. These vehicles are simple and easy to repair/maintain. They typically will continue to run even with a variety of problems. Coolant temperature sensor is a very common failure. The one the computer uses, not the one for the temperature gauge.
You Suburban is cool, it's 95 tbi so that means your truck is one of the first made that year! They moved to the Vortex half way throw 95. You don't see too many of them soo that's awesome!
The clips holding the plug wires open up one doesn’t have to remove them and I ran my plugs over 100k miles nowadays plugs last long nice video it’s going to help many a people.
Ey buddy, try to tune up your TBI. I just haven’t seen a good video on either a rebuild or a tune up on the actual TBI yet. Would be great bc it can help save you gas mileage.
You can clean those distributor points and the rotor if you want to keep them as an emergency back up. Use an ignition points file or emery paper. Or see if your wife has an old emery board. File the corrosion down and it'll be fine. just keep it dry.
yes there is that way to do your wireset, but he was replacing his distributor cap and rotor as well so he had to take all of the wires off of the distributor cap to remove it.
JusBe YouPlease my dads a mechanic and says that after a while on these you have to replace the TBI. but he said they are notorious for their fuel pump going out. (he said this when i bought it a few weeks ago) granted he said that specifically about my 95 tahoe v8 5.7L. but that would be my first look, fuel filter, but if wont run at all... pump. my sable had a pump issue. changed the filter and it worked. but the pump finally died. if the fuel filter change makes it run. it was either clogged or pump is dying. clogged filter will burn out the pump too.
That was one of the early emission controls/engine management devices. A "Thermostatic Air Cleaner". The tin shrouds around the exhaust manifold is called the "Heat Stove". On cold (
@@XxDOPEKILLERXx It allows for faster engine warm up on cold days. While it can decrease engine power, you probably shouldn't be doing burnouts on a cold engine anyway. Like Hubba said, keep it clean and working so it closes after warmup and it won't affect your power output.
The Suburbans that can put high miles and are more or less bullet proof are the 1990-1995. After that they had Aluminum heads with gasket issues and the rear ends dont last.
thanks for the 3 inch extension tip. recently acquired a 1995 tahoe with the same engine. tomorrow is tune up day. 😀 also label with spark plug gap. you know what is not in the manual that came with it? the spark plug gap. there are several things not listed under replacement (things you are supposed to)in the manual, including the wiper sizes. it is extremely vague. great video.
I'd go ahead and replace the ignition pick up coil as well. It will require you to pull the distributor. While you have the distributor out look the reluctor over real wheel any sign/s of cracking and you'll need a new distributor. Delco or Delphi only.
CrazyDuck99 i didnt know if that was standard or just my LT model. i think its the coolest thing. little wind up. i dont understand why that doesn't come standard on ALL vehicles. 1st time i ever saw one was my new (to me) 95 tahoe i just got. ❤
Hey, Looks like a keeper!I have a 1995 Suburban. Also with now only 5o,ooo miles. k2500 454 4x4. I bought it from Bob Petersen's (Hot Rod magazine) Estate in Hollywood, with 19k miles. I had a Chevy dealer do the 30k mile service / tune-up 10 years ago.
I have always gapped to the tight side of the recommended gap. My logic is, as the plugs wear, the gap opens ,so it would maybe stay in spec longer. So @.035” I make it a tight .035”. If it calls for , say .028-.030” I use the smaller gap. I’m not saying it’s the right way, it’s just how I was taught and seemed to make sense in my mind. For performance motors it was always suggested to run as wide a gap as the motor would tolerate, but these aren’t performance motors, we are looking for mileage per tune up mostly.
Gm has never stopped making Suburbans. The first Suburban was produced in 1935 and has been in continuous production since. 99 is the for year of Yukon, Yukon Denali, and the XL. When the Chevrolet K5 Blazer was discontinued after the 1994 model year. The Chevrolet Tahoe was introduced in 1995.
I know this video is old but I just started watching your channel after my mom gave me her 1995 Suburban K1500. Very similar to yours. I am trying to do what you always say “preventative maintenance” on this 29 year old truck with OEM parts. I do have a question, you mentioned you bought those parts on Amazon. Did you ever have a feeling they were fake? I bought a “OEM” driver side switch on Amazon after a few weeks it didnt work. Not sure if it is fake or if it is because Acdelco is from China. This is whats keeping me from buying everything from Amazon but RockAuto is a few bucks more and I know those are for sure original.
My mechanic explained the pre tube to me and we tossed it after the discussion. Kinda ridiculous because engines like cold gas and cold air. Runs fine. I’d toss it.
O'Reilly auto parts sells the Chilton manual for the GMT 400 trucks I have the one for the c/k pickup trucks, and it was cheaper than almost anywhere else that sells them and then on the gmt400 forum someone else told me you can get them through ebay for about $11
After watching these way out of order, I am wondering if the "tick" you refer to later is your distributor. It looks like it has the "Red Death" when the bearing dries out and self destruct.
Hi Jimmy, Love your videos. GMC did make a Suburban after 1995. How do I know, I have a 1997 GMC Suburban. I think 1999 was the last year for the GMC Suburban. Regards
