I was a little kid growing up in Australian when Lleyton was at the height of his career & to this day, I still quote his “Play every point like match point” to my students. I respect that intensity & being brave enough to care & show that you care - he succeeded because he wasn’t afraid to fail.
What a feisty competitor Lleyton was! I was fortunate to watch some of his live matches at the San Jose Open in 2001 and 2002. It was money well spent. I totally agree with you. He fought for every point like a pit bull and his matches were always exciting. Hearty Congratulations to Lleyton Hewitt on being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Well deserved Rusty. An undisputed number one in the world for about 18 months winning two majors and a stack of next level tournaments. His best win ever may have actually been in the Davis Cup beating Federer coming from two sets down. He is a passionate Aussie who loved playing Davis Cup. Lleyton most definitely got the best out of his ability with a lot of grit and a great work ethic. I can think of some other Aussies who could have done with about 50% of his winner's mentality.
Well said, but I don't know why Roger Rasheed made him bulk up at the time when he was pure dominating. Was downhill from then on when he could of milked more years at the top or very close near it. I think he lost his best asset by doing that which was his speed. I'm a fan of Hewitt. Australia's best player ambassador for Australia still.
Davis Cup final, Australia v Spain, 1999 in Barcelona ; Hewitt - at 19 ? - beating the then world #1 Ferrero in the first rubber, in five rowdy and raucous sets, was truely incredible. Hewitt became the youngest #1 in ATP history. Super career !
Absolutely well deserved. I was lucky enough to watch Lleyton's career from beginning to end. In my opinion, Lleyton and Rafa are the two greatest competitors that I have ever seen on a tennis court. Lleyton may not have been blessed with great height, big serve, or cannon forehand, but he damn sure made up for those things with the intensity and focus that he brought to every point. He is one of the greatest competitors that has ever played the game, and I glad that I got to witness his greatness.
@Sleepy Joe how was Rogers peak in 2010-11 ? he only won aus open 2010, lost 2009 US open (never won the US slam since 2008). He then Lost 2 times in a row (2010 and 11) after having match points to Novak at US open. Definitely not his peak.
@Sleepy JoeShotmaking and match awareness may be better in those years, but his fitnes was way below his prime, you would notice Federer been way faster in his younger years, inverting himself to avoid his backhand way more often, and playing more behind the baseline; misplacing Federer peak its just another way to hyping up Nadal and Djokovic, they dont need that, the reality is that they were the next generation, tennis was way different when Federer turn pro compare to modern tennis. However 2012 is Federer most impresive year, been over 30 years old and with a strong top10 (unlike today, number 1 and 2 dont even have a title this year!!), he reach number one ranking and he even skip over 3 masters1000 entirely, he would have a chance of year end number one is he had played those, Djokovic only surpase him on the last month of the tour
@Sleepy Joe What?, his motivation has nothing to do with his current situation, he had two knee surgeries and he is 40, hes not faking that. Everybody has their own taste, 2019 was not my favorite of his performance on grass
Sad that I couldn't make it but happy for Rusty! Warrior on court and an inspiration for people all over the world. My favorite player since I first saw him play back in 02.
Arrogant and a big head. I remember a Friend of mine who met him in a Pub in Adelaide. He expected him to shout him a Beer! He obviously feels others need to shout him a drink hence demonstrating him looking down on others who are not celebrity items.

Loved Lleyton Hewitt's speech
Congratulations Lleyton on the achievement!
A great player who reached his peak in a transition era at 21 years old
@Sleepy Joe Yes, I agree. But at least he had to face a young Rafa

@Sleepy Joe Lol, no one could take that seriously, bye
What is interesting about his speech is that it is all about people, not about his tennis achievements.
Well done Rusty. And well earned. :)
well deserved for this great champion

Congrats!!!
Nice to see Roddick in appearance.
I remember trying to copy this man's game while also disliking him otherwise
Is that Andy Roddick sitting next to Tony Roche?
Yep
C'moooonnnnnn!!!!!!!
This is the same Lleyton Hewitt who, mid-match against James Blake, accused a black linesman for discriminating against him because of race?
He was calm cool and collective. Compared to Sampras who I watched earlier this week.
Arrogant and a big head.

Reconise?? RecoGnise !!

Didn't deserve it
Novak djokovic ❤️❤️❤️vs🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩
"look at him and you tell me what the similarity is". Hewitt was always such a classy champion...NOT!
