  • Another day, another Volvo, but this one of an older low-floor vintage, we have former Central Londoner trundler, ex-Arriva VLA70.
New as LJ04YWZ, this bus was new to Arriva London as VLA70, which comprised one of 18 LJ04-plate B7TLs, and the only batch with Voith gearboxes. While most of the LJ04s went to Wandsworth (WD) for use on the 337. VLA70 was one of the last 4 that was delivered to Norwood (N) instead, mainly to run on routes 2, 176, as well as routes 415 & 417. The arrival of HV-class Volvo Hybrids in 2017 displaced the B7s, with VLA70 being acquired by 1st Bus Stop of Gravesend, mainly for rail replacement & school contracts, it's age hiding numberplate was a later edition.
Our route today (if you can really call it that) was the X24, which was a one-day only route which ran from Bluewater Bus Station to Detling, East Kent Showground via Maidstone. The route was only running as part of a bus event there as one of many feeder services down to Detling.
BU51TOP is powered by a Euro 3 Volvo D7C engine coupled to a Voith DIWA D854.4 4-speed automatic gearbox. My personal preferred combination whine-wise with a Volvo B7, but still hope everyone likes.
