I will always think of the half cab rear entrance vehicles as being the most interesting. CRL 4 (SLT 59) is a fine prototype Routemaster. Nice to see the Green Line coach with the original bonnet styling.. Though I hear the Leyland 0.600 engine I also hear a hint of the AEC engine which were more associated with Routemaster vehicles. This one is unique too as is well known as the only Routemaster bodied by Eastern Coach Works at their Lowestoft factory. ECW are known for the London Transport GS type and the even more widely known Bristol Lodekka for operators outside of the Capital.

Is it in the Eastern National Badgerline livery again, or was the picture at the beginning an older one? It used to be at my local depot for a while, with Eastern National.

Great video and nice to see this one perform well! I regret not riding this one on the day. I could only do half a day and was on T1064 with a failed attempt at catching the Ensign metrobus.

Best position on these is front nearside, you can watch the driver, fantastic buses, running all day has little affect on them, they were designed for heavy London traffic, the engines were down rated, so little wear would accur on them, I used to ride on them in London, and watch them moving passengers in Oxford street, sadly missed

Great video. I can just imagine myself in the snug upstairs with warm glow of the tungsten lights and this glorious music. I remember when my local route , the 88 which then became the 94 stared to have re-engined examples on the route and my heart sank. Some excitement was afforded when London United had RM 2033 and RM 2078 entering service in 1997. They were refurbished but to my mind better than the majority of examples and kept the original lighting. More importantly they retained their AEC engines although these were latter,y replaced.

A Routemaster bus at its best. Nothing equalled the sound of an AEC AV590 engine coming from the RM matched only by the RT type buses both RT/ RTL& RTW. Back to the Routemaster. Though those fitted with Leyland 0.600 engines were really good my personal preference are the RMs powered by AEC engines. And I rode on RM 298 that day when the vintage buses running was centred in North Finchley. Enjoyable!
