- Nora and Nicole openly speak about a topic that is usually avoided: Menopause. The symptoms and changes affect every woman at some point.
Most women have symptoms: For one in three, they are so severe that their quality of life and ability to work suffer greatly. Nora and Nicole are both affected. Nicole is a bodybuilder trying to cope with loss of libido and hot flashes. Nora has experienced deep depression. Both want to break the taboo about menopause. A report by Tessa Clara Walther.

I have never enjoyed winter as much as this year, when I started going through menopause at 51. When it was 5F degrees outside, and everyone didn't want to go out, I put on a coat and walked a few miles without sweating like a beast. It was heavenly. I want to move to the arctic circle for a few years.
Thank you DW for always raising sensitive topics in a very human and nice way. My doctor told me that I am in pre menopause being 43 which kind of shocked me being a mother of a small child. However, knowledge is always better than fear.
I'll be 43 in September, Sis. I'm feeling it and it blows. Huggggs.
Thank you for addressing this taboo subject! The struggle is REAL.
Why is this a taboo, it's just part of natural process of life, why would someone think this is a taboo ?
@@demoncloud6147 did you watch the video? these women seriously in their 30s and experiencing menopause. that must be embarassing.

Ugh finally I can feel like I'm not alone 😔
I think people are so scared to have an honest conversation about menopause because it reminds them of aging which should be celebrated not ignored or overlooked.
I agree that exercise is a major weapon in fighting off the misery of menopause. I have learned that it has become more important to stretch afterwards than it used to be when I was younger and to try to stay flexible so my joints don't keep getting stiffer, but hopefully my future 85-year-old self will thank me for doing that. I didn't think of the increased irritability as being yet another part of the joy of womanhood, but at least now I can explain it to myself and fret over it a bit less.
Take glucosamine chondroitin and hyaluronic acid formulas before and after exercising. Collagen type 2 also works. I'm in my 20s but I can feel the benefit
This is not true it just depends with your body it may have worked for you but it didn’t work for me and I’m a personal trainer I enjoy working out 6 days a week and that didn’t help me
@@mosimosi630xactly it does NOT help everyone, I am in the top 10% of severe menopause symptoms and I get so angry when other women don't have it as bad and think this is the answer.

HRT is a blessing and absolutely can help with the symptoms.
So true it has helped me a great deal, I feel so much better and I actually sleep at night now.
I've had symptoms already since age 43 but my doctors kept dismissing my complaints saying it was simply not possible. This, in Belgium. Still today, age 47,it is quite difficult to get hormone replacement. But at least now they agree I'm in menopause.
Thanks a lot for posting this. Can you please go a bit deeper and cover in full detail? Let's learn more and hear from more.
I'm absolutely glad I watched this documentary I was about to skip it my friend is suffering from the same thing I'm going to tell her what it could be.
I am 32 and not in this stage of my journey yet. We need to normalize talking about menopause. I just had the thought that idk what any signs or symptoms of menopause are apart from hot flashes.
As a woman with about 10 period symptoms a month, i knew that couldnt be the full story.
We don't learn about it in medical school (worldwide applicable) Why not when 52% of the population will suffer with it? A workshop? We are way past education its time for a solution (for everyone) but nobody has one and wants to take the time or resources to create a proper approach for all women. FYI - HRT doesn't work on all symptoms or at all for a lot of women. Women go through a range of extreme hormonal changes considered 'normal' during their life cycle, its way past time there was better everything - understanding, discussion, support, resources and above all else solutions.
Menopause can start at ANY age it's rare, but some even go through it in their teens. I am sure my symptoms started when I was in my thirties.

We are in the same boat 🛶 together. I started the Menopause at age 48 and have been dealing with this for 5 years now. My OB-GYN thinks it is too late to prescribe me an Estrogen Hormonal Replacement. I have just opened my own business working from home, but it is still hard for me. I wake up with headaches that last all day long. I have a prescription for a Muscle Relaxant and I can not drive after I take it.

I have been in full menopause for 10 years. It was crazy early for me.. my periods stopped at 36. Three years earlier I had developed a new bewildering problem of complete insomnia (horrible: a full seven days without an hour of sleep) and agitation and anxiety. I lost 20 lbs without trying (I was down to 98 lbs at the doctor’s office with clothes and winter boots still on. I looked horrible. At 33, peri menopause was NOT at all thought of by me or anyone else. Early menopause wasn’t a thing in my mother or aunt or grandmother. In fact my grandmother had no trouble conceiving three children (twins+ my mom) in her 40s. If I knew what was happening, I could’ve saved professionals a lot of time and tests and gained as much peace of mind as the condition would allow me to feel 😝
Thank you for the doc. I was suffering symptoms for years without knowing or even related to perimenopause/menopause. The lack of the expertise and know how from the GPs didn’t really helped me. Finally after 3 years struggle I finally got the proper treatments. HRT combined with the right nutrition and regular exercises are the keys to help women with menopause symptoms. I wish the medical industries and the society could put more focus on helping and educating women and the future generations about this topic.
Sharing their personal experiences, struggles, and coping mechanisms empowers others to seek support and knowledge, reducing the isolation and stigma often associated with menopause. This report sheds light on an important aspect of women's health, encouraging conversations that lead to better understanding and care for women during this significant life stage.
Cannabis has helped me a lot - in my opinion it's a miracle plant!
I had severe hot flashes, night sweats etc etc, and when I smoked cannabis, my body was instantly put into homeostasis. Cannabis works like a supplement to the endocannabinoid system in the body that regulates for example body temperature.
It was incredible, and ever since then I no longer have problems with hot flashes.
Women used to use cannabis for these kinds of things before, before all the 'war on drugs' came.
Cannabis is a healing plant, not only for menopause issues, but for other things too (seizures, Parkinson etc etc), it really is a medicine plant.
Just sharing, I always do because women need to know that there are ways that can help! (And I live in Spain where it's legal for personal use).
@@sagebay2803 Thanks for sharing - it's important!
I had a lot of menopause challenges and the hot flashes were brutal, I tried 'everything';
Vitamins, diet change, supplements, water fasting, OMAD, and what not, but then when I tried cannabis the relief was instant and I'm not exaggerating, it was instant, like a miracle.
I can still get a hot flash every now and then but that's always because of too much coffee/caffeine, or if I had some alcohol (or spicy food/strong cheese), those things can trigger the hot flashes/night sweats, but otherwise I'm okay now thank god.
And that's thanks to cannabis. It's the only 'supplement' I take nowadays.
That was also something I realized, that vitamins and supplements are often too much for the body to process/handle, so sometimes if I take a vitamin pill or whatever, I can get hot flashes from them too.
Just something to think about and experiment with to see what happens if you stop taking them (just speaking generally/to every woman out there suffering).
I know a lot of women who take massive amounts of vitamin pills and supplements and to me that just makes everything worse.
Regarding exercise; I can't do cardio (get a sweat up) as it can trigger hot flashes (for me) but swimming is really good, and walking too, I love walking/hiking.
We (women) have to just experiment and remove certain things to see what triggers the hot flashes and not give up if nothing seems to work, that was something I was very determined to do; to find relief, and I did.
I know other women have too, cannabis has been used by women (and people overall) for thousands of years before it was banned, and I know that as we share these things and talk about them, more research can be done, not only for women's health, but also for all the other things it can help with.
@@sagebay2803 Glad to hear it was helpful to you 😊
Yes, I got those nudges too, to stop taking all the supplements/vitamins, and it really helped.
When you're desperate you try anything, I even tried magic mushrooms (both trip and micro-dosing), but cannabis is absolutely the number one thing that has helped the most.
Not only with the hot flashes but also with brain fog, insomnia etc, all the common symptoms of menopause.
I tried HRT too (Hormone Replacement Therapy) but that didn't work for me, it just made everything worse, plus added some side effects too, like swollen fingers, nausea, and some other things I don't remember anymore.
Not to say HRT can't help - obviously it can, many women take them and it helps them.
It's the same with cannabis, we're all different, and I did a lot of trial and error in the beginning too; tried different CBD oils, hashish, different weed strains etc before I found what works for me.
So the most important thing is to not give up and resign to just 'tough it out', but to keep doing research and experimenting and you'll (any woman out there suffering) will eventually find what works for you.
If cannabis can help you, then I'm thrilled and very happy for you.
There's nothing worse than the hot flashes, so to have found a relief - I simply have to share it with other women!
I'm so glad to hear you're off the pills and that you have found a medical marijuana doctor who could help you. We don't have that yet here in Spain, but I definitely think it will come.
We're getting there, and I'm so glad to see cannabis be on the rise even if it's a slow process before the 'world' catches up on our revelations/discoveries.
I did the carnivore diet too, but only for a short moment, it wasn't for me, but I'm glad to hear it works for you so thank you too for sharing tips! 😊
@@sagebay2803 And yes, I agree with the women's health not being taken seriously.
I learned in my research that there's not much being done or invested in women's health issues actually, so yes, definitely still very much Middle Age mentality!

It’s been 5 years since I took early retirement due to massive menopause issues. Now I have very reduced $$ so in essence an outcome of Menopause is financial. Right when I was supposed to be at my peak of accomplishment and earning power I had to slink away.
I was not supprised about menopause even though I heard it was some what similar when we started the menustrstion but it is the opposite and a couple books from library gave me an idea and it said some 30’s and 40’s are able to have perimenopause or early start on menopause. I know my body is changing it is definitely not an easy transition so many unknown symptoms can appear and each woman experience symptoms differently and different degrees too. It’s like how one size globe’s and Tshirts doesn’t fit every one I believe menopause is similar but we each spend it different ways Brena
It helps to have a supporting partner. Went through this at 36. The "person" I was living with just bailed. My reduced libido was too much for him😂😂😂.

Great.. All subjects are important.
Diet is so important, especially during and after Menopause. Getting rid of refined sugars, processed foods and carbohydrates, (Keto Diet) makes a huge difference, physically and mentally.
Add a long walk after your evening meal.
Be very careful with synthetic estrogens, the replacement hormone therapy that Dr's will push on you, to treat symptoms Synthetic hormones are horrible for your body, and should be a last resort. Please do your research.
I completely agree. I’ve been on a low carb diet for a few years and I’m going through menopause now. I have no symptoms… no weight gain… nothing. I’ve just turned 50 and never felt so good 😊
When I was 19, I worked with women from South America, and they told me women there know not to eat carbs the day their period starts. I found the night before also helped, and maybe the day after it began. I never had a problem for the whole of my fertile life. Now with menopause, coffee and alcohol will shoot flashes through the roof, so I just stay away. Walk every day, always maintained a healthy diet, very little dairy.

If this had affected men you can bet time, mega bucks and understanding would have been invested to a degree never reached in Silicon Valley.
This does affect men. Name one male condition that gets the public awareness female conditions get. Women conditions get all the media awareness and preventative programs. Like breast cancer awareness day, cervical cancer, pink ribbon day, and various days to bring attention to womens issues. Men dont get any of that. Most men hate going bald, and some men spend thousands of dollars trying to fix it. There is no awareness day for that, or prostate cancer and other mens issues.
Like they did for prostrate issues right?
If there was any semblance of truth in your comment, they would have cured male pattern baldness.

This is a western problem because in Africa at least in my culture men support you more during menopause they understand it’s part of the cycle of life it’s crazy that in the West it’s a taboo subject it seems your education is for nothing because this should be taught in school just like puberty
yes, we in the west ignore our problems so the women can feel alone and terrible and the men can also feel confused and terrible.
Honestly...i'm learning Something....Human beings are VERY Special....created....(Bottomline is LIFE is SHORT...Don't Waste it...)..

Not really - can you imagine what life would be like when your wife is going through menopause?
Phenomena like menopause make me sort of believe the story that women were created after men. In other words, that women were meant as an upgrade over the baseline human version (men) but ended up being overcomplicated and failure prone. A similar analogy is modern cars vs cars from the 70's: these older cars seem to run forever, are easier to work on, can get you from point A to B but pollute more, and the modern ones are stuffed with electronics which improve comfort, safety, but have a higher failure rate and are a nightmare to troubleshoot.😂😂😂😂
