Great treat to hear Trilok tell his story. Definitely one of my favorite musicians of all time. I've followed from the Usfret days, through his stellar stint with Oregon, great work with Joe Z. and his other fabulous work. Trilok Gurtu is a musical force. In Sterling, VA, I once attended a clinic by him. Being a drummer myself, I definitely purchased his signature drumstick and even got on the 10 inch snare drum bandwagon, which nobody was doing before he did it. Very influential man in ways that he's not even aware of. This was great! The thing about the States and the U.K. is that cultural arrogance that comes with thinking that you and everything you do is the pinnacle of human evolution and that nothing from anyone else is of real substance...and then turn around and sneak it through the back door, enough to taste but not be significantly changed by it....but the strength of creativity is always undeniable. Not everybody feels that way, but enough to make your road an uphill climb. Thank you Trilok for not denying yourself.
Such a Genius and Incredible Inspirational Genuine Artist. I have been Inspired alot by This Legendary Artist, Percussionist. He is Phenomenal He is A Person in my life who I have always considered has My Mentor, Teacher and Guru....God Bless Trilok Gurtu Long life...😀
Namaskar. i think his decision to stay in Germany, instead of India, is perhaps due to the lack of acknowledgement / recognition that was not forthcoming for his mother, Shoba Gurtu, and himself. Request Aditya Kalyanpur to post a request, on behalf of all music aficionados, to persuade the Government of India to give Shoba ji and Trilok ji a Padma award
