Japanese joinery is complex because they didn't have much iron on their island originally so they saved material but making complex wooden locking grooves

Epoxy resin is usually what I use to plug holes bored by beetles or grubs. The guys are right, these resin tables are heavy, bulky, and overbuilt usually requiring metal supports to keep the surface from splitting down the center. They're also insanely simple to create, and to learn all the techniques. The resin is pricy now but I remember when it wasn't I sold planks I got as offcuts for 50 cents for like 300 dollars. Same with chacuterie boards. Learning proper joinery is worth it though if you have the time and patience.

live edge is meant for large slabs of wood and it conserves the eidth of the board cause on these big trees you can have 4 extra inches on each side, you gotta go to like the skiing lodges on mount hood or great wolf lodge to really understand hte aesthetic its trying to bring

I worked in a lumber mill for a guy who made "high end" live edge wood furniture. When I say it's easy, I mean you could teach a child to do it in about a day. It's technically a skill, but it's not a difficult one. Training most new guys takes about 5-15 minutes.

The thing with woodworking is, all you need is someone who knows what they're doing to show you what to do. And just do it a few times until you can remember and understand it. The rest is just being careful and consistent and having the right tools. Diligence and attention to detail. The skill is based on repetition and experience, not inherent artistic skill. It's not SCULPTURE
