Holy crap. I never knew how divided the DR fanbase was for the ending of V3. I think a lot of people misinterpreted it, though. Granted, I also didn't like it very much for the reason that it went too far. It was surely too crazy for it's own good. Compared to DR2 which was a modest type of crazy, V3 felt as if it threw everything the franchise had established out the window. While the ending was indeed iffy, I will give props to this ending for its upsides: The game went to uncharted territory, and tackled a theme that is never touched upon. The moral of the ending from what I understood was that fiction impacts reality. This couldn't be any more true. In this day and age, fiction is vital to reality. Even if nothing of it is ultimately real, these games, movies, TV, books, they all had an impact on each and every one of us. Fiction is more than just fiction now. Imagine where we would all be in a world without fiction. It's impossible to conceive because there couldn't possibly be a world without fiction. Fiction makes up a part of the world. These stories, these worlds, these characters, where the hell would we all be without them? They define us and are a part of us forever. We identify with them because as stated, fiction isn't just fiction anymore. They're not just stories or tales meant solely for the sake of entertaining people. These characters are in a way real. They possess heart, have their own souls, and are human just as much as we all are. They're self-aware. They are our idols, our friends, our family, and... well, sometimes our lovers. That was the true point of the ending to V3 aside the theme of the truth vs. lies. Kodaka and the team weren't trying to tell us that they're ending the series because they're tired of it. The characters aren't ending the game because they're fed up with the suffering they've been put through. It's the complete opposite. Kodaka did what he did in order to thank us for supporting the series. He knows just how passionate the fans of the series can be and acknowledged it in his own twisted way. If the world were to become hypothetically obsessed with DR, that's what would happen in the series. He is aware of just how much we love his work, his world, and his characters. I didn't really mind the fact that all the past games were fiction. I'm just pissed off because I feel the trial 6 twist really threw the game itself out the window. All the character development, tears I shed playing this game, feelings of sadness I felt were all for nothing because the whole game was just a fucking fake TV show/series and all these characters are fake. Then in this epilogue the game tries to make up for it by implying "actually its possible tsumugi was lying" or imply that you should leave it to interpretation but there's just no way you can recover from this bullshit twist. And yeah after watching some videos I do understand the theme of "fiction impacting reality" and I think its cool but like... I always understood this. It's the reason I play video games (mainly JRPGs) and enjoy them a lot. I didn't really need this game to tell me this. I feel like this game could have kept this similar theme without throwing all of its built up story out the window. Because now it feels like all the story before the 6th trial twist was made just so this twist can happen and the theme can be explained. And because of that, the whole "fiction vs. reality" theme feels super lazily implemented.
The more I rewatch this ending, the more convinced I become that Tsumugi was lying about the vast majority of stuff in Case 6. Too many things don't add up, and what's more it feels like they _deliberately_ don't add up.
Well, here's what I have identified (a combination of my own examination and stuff gathered from TVTropes): - The audition videos. If she was trying to break the students' spirit by showing them videos of themselves before being brainwashed, then why did she only have tapes related to Shuichi and the tapes that would affect her? Where's the video of shy, timid Maki being pressured into volunteering by her fellow students? Where's the video of hyperactive Himiko talking about all the cool murders an Ultimate Magician could pull off? Only Shuichi got this treatment, as if she had specifically prepared them to counter the person she thought would be the biggest obstacle. - The textbook about Hope's Peak Academy. I get why someone might write a textbook about the _Danganronpa_ series if it really is as big as they say, but how could you write a book about such a series without explicitly mentioning the fact that it's a TV show? Shuichi mentioned that it was well-researched and had lots of contributors; and even if it was supposed to be an in-universe book (like one of those "guidebooks" from certain franchises that are supposed to be written by the characters), there would legally have to be a disclaimer inside saying something like "This is a work of fiction", which I highly doubt Shuichi, the Ultimate Detective, would have missed. - Cospox. The central reason Tsumugi used to convince the students that Hope's Peak is fictional is that she's able to cosplay as characters from the first two games without getting cospox...except that this opens up a whole new can of worms. The reason we found out about her condition was from her cosplaying as Kaede in Chapter 1...except that, as the game goes out of its way to explain, the characters in this game are fictional, and thus wouldn't trigger the cospox. The fact that she got a reaction means that Kaede and the other students are real after all, and/or that Tsumugi was making the entire thing up. - Actually, everything about cospox is sketchy as hell. Aside from the fact that cospox is a completely ridiculous concept (how would her body know whether or not the person she was imitating really existed?), the scene with Tsumugi and Kaede has Tsumugi ask Kaede to close her eyes while she changes clothes. This seems pretty normal at first...except that, as we see in the final trial, Tsumugi can literally change clothes faster than the human eye can follow. So why did it take several seconds for her to change in Chapter 1? I'd argue because she was applying the makeup to herself in order to fake the cospox symptoms. - The game's themes. The entire game is built around truth and lies, and honestly it feels a little weird that a game like that would just give us all the answers at the end, with no deception. I would not at all be surprised if the next game (be it Danganronpa 4, Danganronpa 5, or Danganronpa V4) revealed that some or most of what Tsumugi said was a lie; after all, if any game would do that... - And most damningly, *the opening scene.* This is the big one, because Kodaka specifically said that rewatching the prologue after finishing the game would reveal something (sadly, I don't have a link for this, so I guess it's possible that too is a lie; dammit, Oma!). And the thing is, that scene where it flashes back to the prologue in Chapter 6, allegedly revealing that the characters were actually excited to have been chosen? _That's not how the scene plays out._ If it was something tacked on to the end of a conversation, that would be one thing, but that line of dialogue is literally skipped in the actual scene; it goes directly from Monokid's line about breaking the seal to Monotaro's line about the Flashback Light, without any possibility for the excited dialogue Tsumugi claims was there. This means there are two possibilities: either there are some _Zero Time Dilemma_ levels of camera editing bullshit going on, or the flashback in Chapter 6 was (say it with me) a lie. And when you pull on one lie, the entire premise begins to fall apart.
I think if they were to continue this, they should make an anime just like D3 to continue the story of Danganronpa and D2. I think they'll be able to make a good story line and especially since that it's basically just them three

This ending makes me feel like, it they made another Danganronpa game, it would be something totally different. It would include Himiko, Maki, and Shuichi for sure. It might be about them getting to know the outside world, with some odd mystery to solve, or something like UDG. It just makes my brain start working.

Rinoiya I hope they make some kind of anime that won't be focused on a killing game but on the lives of the students of hopes peak academy...and also tsumugi is my favorite character because of her personality and overall attitude and even when I saw that tsumugi is the mastermind I still loved her because of how she talked she's so calm but theres that specific ring to her voice that I love
I've always loved Danganronpa, but now that I watched this, everything's different. It's like the deceased characters can finally be put to rest, like they can have hope that everything will be okay. It feels like I have hope. This actually had a huge impact on me, like many other people. There are people like me who aren't in good situations, that wish they can die. But this helped me power through, and everything's better now. Anybody who's reading this now, who has depression or is suicidal, everything's going to get better. Just hoping can help raise you'r confidence. Don't worry, there are people that love you.

I'm so mad that only three people survived this time like I thought it should have been Shuichi, Maki, Himiko, Kikochi (just cuz we gotta have that asshole, like Byakuya), and Gonta (he was tooooooooo nice and honest to die).
My first takeaway from the entire ending of this game was almost like a Five Nights at Freddy's effect. The series got too big for the creators, they just couldn't keep up with the demand for these games. But then again, why would you have a team DEDICATED to DR? I don't know, I feel like this isn't the end of the franchise, but then again, that might just be denial. This is one serious mindf*** of an ending.

If there would be another Danganronpa game I could probably see a prequel to V3 where you experience RANtaro's killing game or an anime/manga adaptation of his killing game.
I hate this ending. I absolutely loathe it. Its only "Optimistic" because the Danganronpa world being real is something WE want. Why should the characters want that world? Why would they hope that the real world isnt one where no despair and fighting exist? They are hopeful that Tsumugi might be lying because WE want it to be a lie. WE like Danganronpa and we would want that world to be real. So the hint that Remnants of Despair and Hopes Peak might exist is only what WE want. It makes no sense why the characters would want it.

It's not possible Tsumugi lived. Blood splattered everywhere, besides K1-B0 killed her also betraying her letting the others live. She got crushed by a giant boulder with Monokuma. Danganronpa Wiki says she didn't survive her punishment.
A theory I found, that I may rephrase at bits may make this ending a bit more bearable to the ones that did not like it: Maybe tsumugi wasnt lying but in fact didn't know the truth of the matter. Or this was set long ago into the future, where the first two killing games were passed down as stories. May have missed a couple points but you kinda get the premise, I hope. Either way, it's up to player opinion. If you wanna disregard this series' ending go ahead. The last entries will remain unchanged in that regard, since this is so far apart from those two and the anime.

I sorta have this theory that the reason they all wanted to participate was because it wasn't real. The deaths weren't real either, all just this realistic simulation. The pain is real, mental and physical, but in the end you're still alive.
I'd like it if Spike Chunsoft makes a direct sequel of this visual novel. However, it's no longer a killing game visual novel. The plot is about this: Team danganronpa, before the events on season 53 actually wants to make a new season. However, the preparation takes so long so the first stage audition is done during the airing of Danganronpa. The main character wants to play danganronpa, too. However, after the conclusion of the season 53, the show was cancelled. There is also a news about the appearance of 3 characters from Danganronpa season 53. The main character finally meets one of the character from Danganronpa. They then seeks to find out how Danganronpa world works. The game maintains the class trial mechanics, but otherwise is pacifist. No one dies in the game. As a stark contrast from the last 3 danganronpa entries.

I don't hate this ending, but Im gonna go with the theory that it was based off the original killing games, and Junko and all that were real - because I haven't poured all those hours into Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair to have this game say haha p s y c h e that never actually happened.
The ending to me was a big cliff hanger, but I'd assume it's on purpose for it to be open with a future game; who knows probably to make it cannon with the original. This game is open to many possibilities. I'd personally like to see it cannon, because I would love to see a crossover with Maki and Syo! The underlying plot would be that since this is the last killing game, what was known as "Team Donganronpa" went even more crazed, worse than the Remnants of Despair due to a very well placed contingency plan if any games went awry that is both the Hope and Despair Hypnotism video's. Maybe have it so they will play conspicuously in a switch until whomever's watching goes batshit crazy, like a hypnotic therapy session that will scar the viewer for life and cause their minds to go into a bipolar/schizophrenic flux between hope and despair. The exposure will cause the world to go into a crazed berserk, even make anyone who holds the button to a nuke, persay, set it off. They will have a time limit to find these guys from wherever they are hiding from around the world, and stop this transmission from going off. I know this is something that happened before in DR3, but this time it's going to be an even worse outcome. That or have a devise send the moon into earth after making it look like a Monokuma. So now every person alive in the original series and in this game has to work together to find these people from around the world and stop this. I'd say the only thing to make this work as well, is to make it into what Danganronpa was originally going to act as, a game of unlimited choices to make throughout the game-play where it's a mix of Ultimate Despair Girls fps-slash style with the text book added mystery solving of the original games. Having you have to go through peoples own side of this story in order to find the full details of what happened. Like you can play a refined version of Makoto and Syo's Ultimate Despair Girls also finally as the Remnants of Despair in the same context, and on the Mystery side you can also play as Mokoto and Shuichi to find clues of the whereabouts of Cult Danganronpa's secret facility; running into countless mock facilities just to get trapped and having to puzzle your way out of each one or face...Punishment... If anything, you can really put a stab into people playing since have there be an actual possibility to kill at least one person in each facility while trying to find your way out if you screw up on a "quick time event". Whomever dies or survives would dictate the ending too. The endings are that you only have one true good ending, a couple of alright endings, and a chance for an "Ultimate Despair" ending. My idea for a True Ending if they really want to make this into a 2 part game along with stating some possible prequel **SPOILERS** Junko Enoshima ends up being alive, not even a cyborg. She staged her death with the giant metal block, only allowing everyone to believe that she was dead. And she is going to see to the plan of making the world fall into Despair, but making them hopelessly crazy about Hope that would set them all the way into despair again to the point of self-destruction. But In the end of that is another secret, Junko's beloved sister is also alive as a cyborg...And she's pissed!

I feel like this game could have kept this similar theme without throwing all of its built up story out the window. Because now it feels like all the story before the 6th trial twist was made just so this twist can happen and the theme can be explained. And because of that, the whole "fiction vs. reality" theme feels super lazily implemented.

The more I rewatch this ending, the more convinced I become that Tsumugi was lying about the vast majority of stuff in Case 6. Too many things don't add up, and what's more it feels like they _deliberately_ don't add up.
I'm curious what doesn't add up, aside from the whole volunteering thing
Well, here's what I have identified (a combination of my own examination and stuff gathered from TVTropes):
- The audition videos. If she was trying to break the students' spirit by showing them videos of themselves before being brainwashed, then why did she only have tapes related to Shuichi and the tapes that would affect her? Where's the video of shy, timid Maki being pressured into volunteering by her fellow students? Where's the video of hyperactive Himiko talking about all the cool murders an Ultimate Magician could pull off? Only Shuichi got this treatment, as if she had specifically prepared them to counter the person she thought would be the biggest obstacle.
- The textbook about Hope's Peak Academy. I get why someone might write a textbook about the _Danganronpa_ series if it really is as big as they say, but how could you write a book about such a series without explicitly mentioning the fact that it's a TV show? Shuichi mentioned that it was well-researched and had lots of contributors; and even if it was supposed to be an in-universe book (like one of those "guidebooks" from certain franchises that are supposed to be written by the characters), there would legally have to be a disclaimer inside saying something like "This is a work of fiction", which I highly doubt Shuichi, the Ultimate Detective, would have missed.
- Cospox. The central reason Tsumugi used to convince the students that Hope's Peak is fictional is that she's able to cosplay as characters from the first two games without getting cospox...except that this opens up a whole new can of worms. The reason we found out about her condition was from her cosplaying as Kaede in Chapter 1...except that, as the game goes out of its way to explain, the characters in this game are fictional, and thus wouldn't trigger the cospox. The fact that she got a reaction means that Kaede and the other students are real after all, and/or that Tsumugi was making the entire thing up.
- Actually, everything about cospox is sketchy as hell. Aside from the fact that cospox is a completely ridiculous concept (how would her body know whether or not the person she was imitating really existed?), the scene with Tsumugi and Kaede has Tsumugi ask Kaede to close her eyes while she changes clothes. This seems pretty normal at first...except that, as we see in the final trial, Tsumugi can literally change clothes faster than the human eye can follow. So why did it take several seconds for her to change in Chapter 1? I'd argue because she was applying the makeup to herself in order to fake the cospox symptoms.
- The game's themes. The entire game is built around truth and lies, and honestly it feels a little weird that a game like that would just give us all the answers at the end, with no deception. I would not at all be surprised if the next game (be it Danganronpa 4, Danganronpa 5, or Danganronpa V4) revealed that some or most of what Tsumugi said was a lie; after all, if any game would do that...
- And most damningly, *the opening scene.* This is the big one, because Kodaka specifically said that rewatching the prologue after finishing the game would reveal something (sadly, I don't have a link for this, so I guess it's possible that too is a lie; dammit, Oma!). And the thing is, that scene where it flashes back to the prologue in Chapter 6, allegedly revealing that the characters were actually excited to have been chosen? _That's not how the scene plays out._ If it was something tacked on to the end of a conversation, that would be one thing, but that line of dialogue is literally skipped in the actual scene; it goes directly from Monokid's line about breaking the seal to Monotaro's line about the Flashback Light, without any possibility for the excited dialogue Tsumugi claims was there. This means there are two possibilities: either there are some _Zero Time Dilemma_ levels of camera editing bullshit going on, or the flashback in Chapter 6 was (say it with me) a lie. And when you pull on one lie, the entire premise begins to fall apart.
The more I rewatch this ending, the more sad I get about Tsumugi dying because she's been close to my heart since the beginning.

I've always loved Danganronpa, but now that I watched this, everything's different. It's like the deceased characters can finally be put to rest, like they can have hope that everything will be okay. It feels like I have hope. This actually had a huge impact on me, like many other people. There are people like me who aren't in good situations, that wish they can die. But this helped me power through, and everything's better now. Anybody who's reading this now, who has depression or is suicidal, everything's going to get better. Just hoping can help raise you'r confidence. Don't worry, there are people that love you.

My first takeaway from the entire ending of this game was almost like a Five Nights at Freddy's effect. The series got too big for the creators, they just couldn't keep up with the demand for these games. But then again, why would you have a team DEDICATED to DR? I don't know, I feel like this isn't the end of the franchise, but then again, that might just be denial. This is one serious mindf*** of an ending.
GreenEchoGaming I agree. This game really does have the Five Nights At Freddy's effect, and Danganronpa really is a popular game. However, considering the ending to this game (and also Fnafs endings) there is more to come from both franchisees.
But, we'd have to wait a few years for anything from either of them.

Its only "Optimistic" because the Danganronpa world being real is something WE want. Why should the characters want that world? Why would they hope that the real world isnt one where no despair and fighting exist?
They are hopeful that Tsumugi might be lying because WE want it to be a lie. WE like Danganronpa and we would want that world to be real. So the hint that Remnants of Despair and Hopes Peak might exist is only what WE want. It makes no sense why the characters would want it.

It's not possible Tsumugi lived. Blood splattered everywhere, besides K1-B0 killed her also betraying her letting the others live. She got crushed by a giant boulder with Monokuma. Danganronpa Wiki says she didn't survive her punishment.
A theory I found, that I may rephrase at bits may make this ending a bit more bearable to the ones that did not like it:
Maybe tsumugi wasnt lying but in fact didn't know the truth of the matter. Or this was set long ago into the future, where the first two killing games were passed down as stories. May have missed a couple points but you kinda get the premise, I hope.
Either way, it's up to player opinion. If you wanna disregard this series' ending go ahead. The last entries will remain unchanged in that regard, since this is so far apart from those two and the anime.

I sorta have this theory that the reason they all wanted to participate was because it wasn't real. The deaths weren't real either, all just this realistic simulation. The pain is real, mental and physical, but in the end you're still alive.

I'd like it if Spike Chunsoft makes a direct sequel of this visual novel. However, it's no longer a killing game visual novel. The plot is about this:
Team danganronpa, before the events on season 53 actually wants to make a new season. However, the preparation takes so long so the first stage audition is done during the airing of Danganronpa. The main character wants to play danganronpa, too. However, after the conclusion of the season 53, the show was cancelled. There is also a news about the appearance of 3 characters from Danganronpa season 53. The main character finally meets one of the character from Danganronpa. They then seeks to find out how Danganronpa world works.
The game maintains the class trial mechanics, but otherwise is pacifist. No one dies in the game. As a stark contrast from the last 3 danganronpa entries.

Ultimate hc: out of everyone in Danganronpa V3, if there actually was the possibility of a returning comeback killing game i think Kaede, Tsumugi, Gonta, Tenko, Angie, Kokichi and Rantaro would come back:
• Kaede would recieve a redemption arc, possibly a rivalry between her and Tsumugi as heartbroken bc in account Tsumugi not only framed her for Rantaro's murder but faked a illness in front of her being something unforsakable no matter how you look at it, then it ends it might just be in good terms as such as knowledge she could get protagonism and she gotta survive man
• Tsumugi should get a redemption arc because i think she's been done dirty as the mastermind it would've been psychological trauma to mastermind the games witness of the deaths of being in the game she was admirant of.... Just subverting the irony could make her be more human, she wanted the audience's happiness now she's gonna have to find the truth she's been kept secret to forsake, she could be potential for being protagonist with just clever writing... The best way to know a fictional character is by adapt to be empathetic towards their positions, limits are pointless
• Rantaro deserved to live longer due to him being more than he let on still.... Yes, he'd get a redemption arc however he'd last not much or long.... Danganronpa loves plot twists
• Tenko clearly could need a second chance to improve herself other than being forshadowed as just a femenist
• Angie would be a good character to comeback since i felt like she was really wasted bc of the Atua shenanigans being the only subject she's ever spoken to irrelevant to importance
• Kokichi really deserves a redemption arc after all he's important to the plot around there and out, like he was just that smartass as if he knew, we always thought he was just a mere joker or liar when he actually was more than he let on other than being a joke
• Gonta really deserves to comeback i mean he was just a damn honest gentle giant who never harmed shit, he was done very dirty.... He was manipulated psychologically to murder an innocent life just because a grape haired gremlin said so... I think if Gonta were to come back, hc he'd be pissed at Kokichi for that, even smack him to the pavement even, if you were psychologically manipulated onto committing murder, what would you do...? Besides a buff character has to survive somehow, he'd be a preferable candidate either way
That's what i think could happen if a returning killing game had come to be, so many endless posibilities can happen, only nostalgic even from start of beggining

I don't hate this ending, but Im gonna go with the theory that it was based off the original killing games, and Junko and all that were real - because I haven't poured all those hours into Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair to have this game say haha p s y c h e that never actually happened.
The ending to me was a big cliff hanger, but I'd assume it's on purpose for it to be open with a future game; who knows probably to make it cannon with the original. This game is open to many possibilities. I'd personally like to see it cannon, because I would love to see a crossover with Maki and Syo!
The underlying plot would be that since this is the last killing game, what was known as "Team Donganronpa" went even more crazed, worse than the Remnants of Despair due to a very well placed contingency plan if any games went awry that is both the Hope and Despair Hypnotism video's. Maybe have it so they will play conspicuously in a switch until whomever's watching goes batshit crazy, like a hypnotic therapy session that will scar the viewer for life and cause their minds to go into a bipolar/schizophrenic flux between hope and despair. The exposure will cause the world to go into a crazed berserk, even make anyone who holds the button to a nuke, persay, set it off. They will have a time limit to find these guys from wherever they are hiding from around the world, and stop this transmission from going off. I know this is something that happened before in DR3, but this time it's going to be an even worse outcome. That or have a devise send the moon into earth after making it look like a Monokuma. So now every person alive in the original series and in this game has to work together to find these people from around the world and stop this. I'd say the only thing to make this work as well, is to make it into what Danganronpa was originally going to act as, a game of unlimited choices to make throughout the game-play where it's a mix of Ultimate Despair Girls fps-slash style with the text book added mystery solving of the original games. Having you have to go through peoples own side of this story in order to find the full details of what happened. Like you can play a refined version of Makoto and Syo's Ultimate Despair Girls also finally as the Remnants of Despair in the same context, and on the Mystery side you can also play as Mokoto and Shuichi to find clues of the whereabouts of Cult Danganronpa's secret facility; running into countless mock facilities just to get trapped and having to puzzle your way out of each one or face...Punishment... If anything, you can really put a stab into people playing since have there be an actual possibility to kill at least one person in each facility while trying to find your way out if you screw up on a "quick time event". Whomever dies or survives would dictate the ending too. The endings are that you only have one true good ending, a couple of alright endings, and a chance for an "Ultimate Despair" ending.

Junko Enoshima ends up being alive, not even a cyborg. She staged her death with the giant metal block, only allowing everyone to believe that she was dead. And she is going to see to the plan of making the world fall into Despair, but making them hopelessly crazy about Hope that would set them all the way into despair again to the point of self-destruction. But In the end of that is another secret, Junko's beloved sister is also alive as a cyborg...And she's pissed!
