Thank you so much for allowing us to see the 10 minute struggle behind the scenes. That was actually really cool and stood out while everyone on the internet feels immense pressure to be presentably perfect all the time.
Am I the only one that seemed to sleep through the digital revolution in the guitar world and is now trying to frantically understand what the hell is going on?? I feel like an old man trying to use a touch screen for the first time....
I'm almost 40 and just learned about the stuff about a year ago. It was a bit of a learning curve but once you figure it out it's amazing. It made me want to play everyday when I used to take long extended breaks between practicing.
44years here and spent really painful amount of money in high quality custom made pedalboard and tube amps just before all this unraveled 2017😂 So I can’t get into the bandwagon but I’m still excited for all the possibilities
I have the HX effects too, but I got a custom cable for my 6505+ for the channels in the ext. I wanna get a modeler with a power amp though. I don't wanna take my tube amp everywhere lol.
@@djsusan00i went from 6505+ to a friedman IRX. And duncan power stage for my live rig. It is so much better than digital, no latency, its got a BETTER clean channel than the 6505+
I play HX Effects + Revv G20. Also controlled by MIDI. So comfortable to be sure that you are ready to play any venue no matter how unequipped it is. John Petrucci on budget :)
Man ur heavy tone sound AMAZING from here, in Canada,Qc, so I just can't imagine how AMAZING it would be sound over there in that room ! Always good videos man. Good job, peace
The best part of the VP4 is that you can use it as a midi controller for the JP2C (channels, GEQ, reverb and shred mode) and you get effects as a bonus... 🤣
I do that with my hx stomp and orange rv100mk3. It's got 2 ext loops, pedal board dirt in one and RV pre in the other. I run the wet stereo FX from my board to my mesa 290 for wdw. In this setup I can put a different preamps (or RV) into the Mesa. Stereo from the HX pings center to r/l mono and the board stereo FX ping l/r. Swirly! These new modelers sound amazing and eliminate tons of utility products like splitters, mixers, and gates.
I have been doing this for years with my Rd King & Boss GT100 - Dry stack in middle & wet stacks left & right-- It's a lot of gear but sounds killer.. Kick ass Ola Keep killing it :)
I'm really considering one of these so I can finally retire my gigantic case of rack mount equipment. Just not sure which one yet. It's a pretty serious outlay of cash. It's a 3.5 hour drive west to Sweetwater so maybe a trip would be a good idea. A couple tanks of fuel is a lot cheaper than a $1000+ pedal you end up not liking.
The 7ms split only works if you have two amps. The 2290 in hiw rack separates the two amps to have the 2nd amp delayed as if you doubled tracked. With one amp and one cab, the effect is not so useful actually but great tones here!
Exactly! Using any stereo FX (delay, reverb, chorus ect) on mono rig will just make phase and this is exactly what we heard... Surprised Ola did it, but I hope he will realise soon or later 😝👍
Same with the TC mimic pedal. Unless you have a stereo rig, it’s useless. Kind of pisses me off because I play through a Mesa tri-axis and a stereo 290 boogie which the power amp is stereo but the tri axis that’s made to go along with It only has a single effects loop made for and that’s intended to pair with this stereo power amplifier. Kind of stupid!
@paulystark2890 TC Mimiq it's not a time based effect unlike Delay or Reverb. Delay is used to add delay in time to physical 2nd track or path (modelers, DAW) in chain. I d never use a thing full digital in front of an amp first and in an effects loop without a mixer too... This actually only works if you’re using a stereo amplifier or two amplifiers. The way Ola was doing it. All you were hearing was phase. The 7 ms delay was really doing nothing. Same with the TC electronic mimic pedal if you don’t have two amplifiers or a stereo rig it’s useless.
4 cable method: 2 times AD/DA conversion plus tube still doesn't work well. A midi multFX like the VP4i in the effects loop and a loopswitcher with real OD in front of the preamp works much better, at least for me. The VP4 can switch the loopswitcher in that case.
I really don’t know how to feel about the digital stuff. I’ve never really tried one, but just last weekend I saw taking back Sunday on Friday and immediately someone noted how “quiet” they were. My response was “well that’s what happens when there’s no amps on stage” then I saw clutch Sunday…..point proven
did you mix camera micro sound with microphones from cabinet, because at 1 min 12 there is hear only a very reverby sound and you tell your microphones are not working ?
Ola, Dude, how the hell did you get the distortion in the front of the amplifier through the effects loop with 4CM? This has been driving me crazy for years and I always just use the distortion channel of the amp and just regular effects through the loop from my Axefx3. Love to know how you did this with a four cable method. 🤘
Never mind, I figured it out on my own. I forgot the Mesa JP has midi so you were actually changing the channel of the amp thru midi to an overdriven channel for distortion. Way to explain shit, Ola! lol!
Str'o'm 🤘 (i don't have the two eyes on the o on my keyboard so it's ever strôm, strom, str'o'm or strœm like œuf🥚in french and i like 🍳 tbh but it's more close to the original with a guillemet on each side)
Hi Ola ! In this video you use Vp4 only multieffect stomp box and you use the sound of ampli distorsion ? Or you use vp4 also sound distorsion simulator?
My question as well because he said he’s putting the distortion in the front of the amplifier but the four cable method is through the effect loop. This has always puzzled me and I always use distortion inside of the amplifier because I don’t understand how you could put the distortion in front of the amp through the loop?
4cm , let's you put the drives / distortions in front of the amp and modulation , time based effects in the loop. You can also have modulation in front of the amp and time based effects.
How if you’re in the effects loop which is after the preamp? If you put distortion in the front of the chain on the VM4 it’s still after the preamp. Makes no sense at all.
big question is does running through it have any negative impact on the actual tone or feel? loss of dynamics? Sounds great, but only you the player can know
On an amp with midi like the JP2C, yes. Any other amp, you need a midi adapter (something like the Suhr microMIDI or the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher) as a go-between, but it will still work. That's exactly what I do with my Bogner Helios Eclipse. I use the microMIDI. It's actually considerably less expensive than a bunch of pedals and something like a BOSS ES-5 or something as a controller, when you think about it.

What you need is a pair of powered PA speakers (Stereo rig 😉). I am running a Fender Tone Master Pro that way. Be careful though, those must be true FRFR. Example, the Fender Tone Master combo amps are not true FRFR. Sound is coloured and those are known to make a "hiss" noise. Just pair it with a FM3 and FC6 and you have all the switches you need
Is the Gate in this unit a sidechain gate so the gate is triggered by the dry signal while cutting of the signal after the preamp? Would be great!
