When I see you two, I can’t help but smile. Awesome review. I actually just picked up Circadians 1st Order also by Garphill games and a dice worker placement. If I like that one I might pick up Wayfarers. I love and own Raider of the North, Paladins, Architects, and Viscounts.
We play this at only 2 and really like it! I find Garphill games are always trying to do something different and this feels like nothing else (even if there's nothing really 'new' on this game). A solid 8/10 for me. Nice to see your thoughts though, hope you continue to try the new ones and review them :D
We really loved Wayfarers and put it up there with Paladins and Architects as our favorites in the series. Loved how tight the gameplay was and how your dice board could be built into a nice dice manipulator. Also appreciated they went with the larger size box so the future expansions have room in there already. The last four games I had to buy a new box to store all the content (Raiders, Architects, Paladins, Viscounts). Glad they are planning ahead now.
So happy to hear you are enjoying the game! :D I liked so many of the elements and mechanisms in this, but it didn’t wow me. I liked the last time we played quite a bit, but there is nothing that will compell me to come back. Raiders and Architects are fantastisc, and I am looking forward to play them again!
The extra spaces in the insert are for future expansions - Shem said on FB that he didn't want to do those collectors boxes/inserts that they did for the West Kingdoms. So this is clearly for the base game and the future, so partly empty for now. If you have access to a 3D printer I *highly* recommend printing little cups for the little player piece bowls and for the Coins/provisions!
@@BoardGamingRamblings Oh yeah, those little holes are super fiddly. My big fingers have problems getting the tokens out. At least it's something? A working insert with room for the future? Not perfect, but not nothing.
Thanks for the review. I wasn't interested in this game when it first came out, but recently, I saw a very positive review for it, so I've been looking into it more. It's feeling like a game that I'd like to try first but not sure if I'd ever want to own. I think I'm going to pick up the Wonders expansion for Architects instead since that's a game that I already own and very much enjoy as a lighter medium-weight game that is relatively easy to teach to new gamers but still with enough depth to interest experienced gamers.
I have played five times. Seems a very odd strategy to hoard or not use workers, when one is constantly needing to replenish money and provisions, and/or running out of dice while struggling to continue to move up the journal track. Worker placement feels quite integral to me.
At the 14:00 mark, it's brought up where you only have one space to buy land or water cards and you have to rest to bring your dice back. Meanwhile, they could use one of their workers they're hoarding to refresh that die and possibly use those actions again. Not to mention the plethora of other great worker locations that make gathering other assets easier. Hoarding is an interesting strategy, but not ideal
I think we might have overstated that we «hoarded» them, hehe. It was more the point that we most of the time thought the dice placement was more important, and it ended up going first in most cases! :)
Shocked you have "no desire to play it again". Interesting thoughts about the workers. I feel like they're pretty integral to the design and have seemed to be sought after by most players in many of the games I've played for flexibility and help with economy (provisions, money, and especially gaining the upgrade tiles for dice). Worried the replayability won't be quite as high considering the journal track has no variability aside from the bonuses you gain. Absolutely love the game and very excited for Scholars.
Yeah, I liked the workers, but they didn’t feel as important as the dice. I also think we might have overstated how little we used them, as we did use them a lot, but for me, the dice actions mostly came first, as they felt more powerful! :) Thanks for sharing!
This is not me criticizing, but I noticed your thumbnails have a circle with text inside on the bottom right. At least on mobile, the video length text is covering them. Anyways, thanks for the videos 🙂
Thank you so much for pointing this out! I hadn’t seen how badly it looked on the mobile app! I think the best fix might be to change the placement of the circle and the logo? Still working on making better thumbnails, and I am already happy that they are way better than the old design 😅
Completely agree on the insert and the box size. I was so disappointed in both. It astounds me how consistently poor inserts are, often increasing box size, and setup and tear down times, and doing nothing to hold components in place! … Sorry, rant over. This is my equivalent of the player aid thing! 😊

That makes sense, but it’s still a horrible way to store the pieces in my opinion 😅 Glad if someone else likes it!

Flip journal boards for options. Each side is different.
@@chuckm1961 yeah, that’s obviously there to help. Just needs more to switch it up

@@BoardGamingRamblings No problem! I agree they look good. I'm sure you could just move the circle to the top right? You know better than me! Lol
The problem is space, as it wouldn’t be nice to Sunniva to cover her head either 😂
