This is such a shxt take because to say Hugh and Ryan care about the source material as if RDJ doesn’t is absurd. RDJ actually tried out to be Doom in the very first F4 movie. This was around the time Feige had to sneak comics into Hugh’s trailer because he never even read one before on the set of X-Men. Also to say Doom isn’t a sympathetic villain, like how do you think he has such a huge following? It’s because he’s sympathetic that is how that works. And also saying Marvel is lazy and desperate and going back to what works…You would think they just announced Iron Man 4 or something. This is obviously a risk, but as we should have learned by now, when in doubt, don’t bet against RDJ.
Even me, someone who hasn’t read a fantastic four comic knows that despite being a villain, he’s surprisingly a good leader to his people. (Again haven’t read a comic so I could be wrong on this.)
The only adaptation that has done Dr. Doom justice is Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Iron Man Armored Adventures to a lesser extent. Doom is one of the greatest villains in all of Marvel, a genius sorcerer and technology who managed to combine both together to become ruler of his nation and turn it from a developing country into a superpower. Doom could easily become one of the best heroes of his eorld, but his desire to help others is overshadowed by his sheer arrogance and narcissism. Driven at 1st by his troubled past and desire to save his mother from hell, Doom does not believe there is anything beyond his ability to control, and concurrently, that there is no one greater than him. His legendary feud with Reed Richards, once his peer and best friend, is driven by his literal refusal to admit he made a calculation error, and similarly, he refuses to accept that other people would have a problem with his methods. It isn't enough for him to be a savior, he must be worshipped as such. It isn't enough for him to defeat his enemies, they grovel before him and admit they were foolish to even oppose him to begin with. Doom, I feel, truly embodies the sin of Pride in so many ways. So great, so powerful, so intelligent, so magnificent in so many ways. And yet his ego can allow for no one to stand at the peak, but himself.
Star Wars is never going to get better. That’s something we can agree on. Marvel is more likely than Star Wars to course correct. Kathleen is going die on her throne as the mad queen. She’s not letting anyone get rid of her garbage.

Marvel's overabundance has left me indifferent to the MCU, and has almost ruined the superhero genre for me. I still watch them... weeks after their streaming release; usually still mildly enjoy them, but am not excited for any of them, like at all. I think I'm still three things behind for the MCU, but I don't care that I'm behind. When I heard this news, my first thought was, 'so are we ever getting Sherlock Holmes 3 or not?' And, rightly or wrongly, I kind of blame the MCU for other franchises I want to see sequals for, taking so long, or just dying off, because actors are too tied up with the MCU. Still annoyed at WB's decision to try and make DC into Marvel, where people are thanking Kevin Feige for Blue Beatke.

This same MCU continuity needs to end at some point. Marvel needs to hard reboot. No connections to the past marvel universe we’ve had since 2008. A clean slate. Everybody recasted. Everything is streamlined and not too much is required for normies to watch. The shared universe thing has gone too out of hand.
My theory is that the Russo Brothers were asked to fix the mcu by the higher ups and the Russos thought they should dump Kang for a better Villian such as Dr doom but Kevin Feige was the one who insisted in bringing RDJ into it.
While I’m willing to give it a Shot, I don’t know how to feel about this, I would rather give the Role a Different Unknown Actor than has Great Potential but the Sad Reality is that this is Freaking Hollywood, they would rather pick the Most Popular Actor than to give other actors a Chance, I’m hoping this is Temporary and that Robert at least keeps the Mask On, I rather see Kang Recast.

It's clearly a corporate cash grab but considering it's the Russo Brothers and if it is a Tony stark variant, it has the potential to be narratively impactful. Granted the word is "potential". While it has the "possibility" to be good, whether it will or won't, we'll see. The core part is execution. At the end of the day I'm here for a good story but I don't have my hopes up either. Sony’s future reboot needs to cast somebody like Grant Gusten as adult Peter Parker/Spider-Man. But if they had to do the repetitive teen drama crap again I suppose Gaten Matarrazo would be a good choice. Although he doesn’t have to necessarily play another played out teenager and just be a young adult. But yeah, Sony won’t ever let go of SM rights and even when Tom Holland is done they’ll just reboot, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just don’t replace Peter forever by Miles Morales. Peter Parker is Marvel’s Bruce Wayne. We don’t mind endless reboots as long as they’re good. And also don’t oversaturate and make too much content and whatnot.

I find it hilarious that is what people think they are doing. They are building up to Secret Wars and this has been the plan the whole time. Only change is they just brought the Russos Bro back who have made nothing but classics for Marvel, and are streamlining the entire story to meet the release dates now which is great. So instead of being confused about what is leading into what. We now know Cap 4 leads into Thunderbolts, which leads into F4, which leads into Doomsday which leads into Secret Wars. Now LFG.

Were it up to me, I'd have recast Kang for The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars and make him greater than his Quantumania treatment. Better yet, make actual Avengers movies in phases 4 and 5 so we'd know which avengers to invest out time in and not make the fans wait till phase 6 like overkill and actually give the new avengers more movies for us to care about them enough for if/when they do die in the phase 6 avengers films.

The Russo’s bring back also does nothing for me. Because it feels very reminiscent of JJ coming back for Star Wars 9. Back when they were in the mcu, them and James Gunn were helping Kevin shape how everything lead into IW and Endgame. They were part of creative for about 5 years basically. But in this saga, they haven’t been at all. They just got them cause they know people want them back, and to salvage their mess the same as they wanted JJ to do. I love them, and I’d love seeing them direct/write for Doom under another circumstance where he’s built up for about 5-6 years instead of what’s gonna happen here. This is lame.

Kevin Feige actually did have full control over the MCU this whole time. He just got comfortable and was focusing on expanding the MCU. Remember, Feige was the one pushing Captain Marvel aswell as The Marvels. As discussed in this video, Feige even pushed The Eternals and was even begging for a sequel to be made, only for Bob Iger to turn him down as he thought it was going to be a guaranteed flop. So Feige HAS been in control this whole time. He just lost his way. And remember, without the Russo Brothers involvement in the MCU, the story wouldn't have been pushed forward as well as it had been. Why else would Feige get punished by Disney by loosing his Star Wars movie aswell as the sequels to Eternals etc. And Feige is STILL having trouble getting Blade off the ground. I personally think this is a stupid idea. I’m aware of the Infamous Iron Man Story line.
But the fact that they’re using Doctor Doom as a catalyst for Iron Man returning (given the direction) pisses me off as someone who loves Doom as a villain.
Could Robert Downey Jnr be the voice of Dr Doom while the character is played by a physically more imposing actor? Darth Vader was played by David Prowse but voiced by James Earl Jones.
It's clearly a corporate cash grab but considering it's the Russo Brothers and if it is a Tony stark variant, it has the potential to be narratively impactful. Granted the word is "potential". While it has the "possibility" to be good, whether it will or won't, we'll see. The core part is execution. At the end of the day I'm here for a good story but I don't have my hopes up either. I'm being as neutral as possible. I'll leave my final verdict for when I see it

Sony’s future reboot needs to cast somebody like Grant Gusten as adult Peter Parker/Spider-Man. But if they had to do the repetitive teen drama crap again I suppose Gaten Matarrazo would be a good choice. Although he doesn’t have to necessarily play another played out teenager and just be a young adult. But yeah, Sony won’t ever let go of SM rights and even when Tom Holland is done they’ll just reboot, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just don’t replace Peter forever by Miles Morales. Peter Parker is Marvel’s Bruce Wayne. We don’t mind endless reboots as long as they’re good. And also don’t oversaturate and make too much content and whatnot.

I find it hilarious that is what people think they are doing. They are building up to Secret Wars and this has been the plan the whole time. Only change is they just brought the Russos Bro back who have made nothing but classics for Marvel, and are streamlining the entire story to meet the release dates now which is great. So instead of being confused about what is leading into what. We now know Cap 4 leads into Thunderbolts, which leads into F4, which leads into Doomsday which leads into Secret Wars. Now LFG.

There are a lot of interesting actors who could have played him. But my two top picks would be Cillian Murphy and Michael Fassbender. They both were fan picks and I can actually see them playing the role very well.

Dr doom is a great villain I just woulda rather him being played by another actor like cilian murphy. I think Dr doom is not gonna match the level of buildup and hype that thanos had for about a decade when we literally have 2 years to worry about doom. Hey Eric I recommend reading books of Doom comics because it shows that Doom is evil and very sympathetic l. It’s one of the best origins of Doctor Doom.
Were it up to me, I'd have recast Kang for The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars and make him greater than his Quantumania treatment. Better yet, make actual Avengers movies in phases 4 and 5 so we'd know which avengers to invest out time in and not make the fans wait till phase 6 like overkill and actually give the new avengers more movies for us to care about them enough for if/when they do die in the phase 6 avengers films.
Yeah covid and poor planning threw a wrench in Phase 4 and 5 but that’s in the past, we got the Russo Bros back and they are about to be cooking with baking soda again.

The Russo’s bring back also does nothing for me. Because it feels very reminiscent of JJ coming back for Star Wars 9. Back when they were in the mcu, them and James Gunn were helping Kevin shape how everything lead into IW and Endgame. They were part of creative for about 5 years basically. But in this saga, they haven’t been at all. They just got them cause they know people want them back, and to salvage their mess the same as they wanted JJ to do.
I love them, and I’d love seeing them direct/write for Doom under another circumstance where he’s built up for about 5-6 years instead of what’s gonna happen here. This is lame.

Yeah that's exciting. But bringing in Robert Downey Jr in this capacity was a panic move. It's not what anyone wanted and is clearly a sign that Marvel doesn't know how to fix the mess that they created with Phases 4 and 5.

It's just how studios operate. They're gonna find an excuse to have him remove his mask.

Back to my point though they have already had RDJ in the MCU, they have no point to reveal his face cause the Russo Brothers and the writer (that's confirmed for Secret Wars) are big Secret Wars fans so they wouldn't stray so far from the material to have a face revealed Dr Doom when you can do a lot with his character behind the mask, and one of the Brothers (forgot his name) said that they needed an actor to play both the complicated and entertaining side of Dr Doom and an actor they know that has a track record of doing that is RDJ so it would logically make sense to get him just for his acting

Kevin Feige actually did have full control over the MCU this whole time. He just got comfortable and was focusing on expanding the MCU.
Remember, Feige was the one pushing Captain Marvel aswell as The Marvels.
As discussed in this video, Feige even pushed The Eternals and was even begging for a sequel to be made, only for Bob Iger to turn him down as he thought it was going to be a guaranteed flop.
So Feige HAS been in control this whole time. He just lost his way. And remember, without the Russo Brothers involvement in the MCU, the story wouldn't have been pushed forward as well as it had been.
Why else would Feige get punished by Disney by loosing his Star Wars movie aswell as the sequels to Eternals etc.
And Feige is STILL having trouble getting Blade off the ground.
Feige has had control over both Phase 4 and 5, and he messed it up.
