What a great interview MP! Super congrats to Josef on becoing Indy 500 champion! Awesome reminders of SFR, ECR, etc before he got a chance with The Captain. Can't say enough about the shout out to Robin Miller! He would have also truly loved to see the return of the speeds and the crowd at IMS.
Masterful interview, Marshall. It's the most real I've ever seen Newgarden. My friend described him as, 'If Disney grew a race car driver in a Petri dish...' Very refreshing to see him as a human. I know he's a good guy, it's just better to see him as himself and not a robot. (Edit: You cracked him for a bit and then he defaulted back to robotic at the end. Sigh.)
Your comments about Robin's reaction to Josef's win in your other video hit me in the feels. He would have been over the moon with Josef winning. Great shout-outs to Jeremy Shaw and John Doonan, too. Thanks again for the month of excellent coverage leading up to this race, MP! Above and beyond.
I had two guys I was rooting for before we got to Indy it was Josef Newgarden... After qualifying it was Santino Ferrucci..... Love Josef the best driver in the series past 5 years the numbers don't lie. Now a 500 winner...
1000 times yes!! Thank you for capturing these moments with our beloved Josef Joseph, Josefff. He truly is a driver who earned his spot in the history books, and he did it with grit and determination and many failures along the way, which only makes it all the more special. ❤
Josef is my favorite. I have been a fan since he came to the series. Marcus was my pick, but I'd always wanted Josef. So elated. He and his wife seem like wonderful and genuine people. Congratulations to all the Newgardens!
Josef maintaining a 23% win percentage since joining Team Penske. 2 Championships, 3 2nd places, and an Indy 500 so far. Definitely needs to be included in the GOAT category imo
Congrats to JoeNew, a true Class Act. The bigger issue: why has The Captain NOT HIRED MP as the director of marketing and/or PR? IndyCar>>>recognize the best at his craft in your sport, promoting your series! He's better than anyone currently on your payroll.
The reason why all these young kids on this thread think the racing was great and the greatest - they don't know any better. They never experienced the truly great racing of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Forty years of glorious evolutionary, innovation and intriguing state-of-the art racing. With all best racing car manufacturers, engine suppliers and the World's greatest drivers like Jimmy Clark and Nigel Mansell. F1 Champions. Now reduced to a farce of all identical spec cars with no name drivers. And poor race officiating. And crashing. The Glory Days will never be revisited.
Will we still be racing these Dallara DW12's in 2028? - 11-years old now, 16-years old by then. What incentive does Dallara have to innovate? They have no competition. If these spec cars are not dumped - Indycar racing will remain a second-class series. And yes, the weaving 2-car widths over the pit line was low-class and JN should have been DQ'd for dangerous driving. Uncle Bobby is rolling in his grave.
In no world did Ericsson deserve to win the Indy 500. Especially considering that Ericsson and his teammate were involved in two of the last crashes. Not to mention the controversy of the timing of the last caution. It was clear that everyone thought the caution was called before it officially was, only to be told later that Ericsson passed Newgarden before they officially called the caution. The one lap shootout was dangerous with cold tires, but I don't know what else Indy could have done to partially save face on that one due to the caution fuckup. It was an exciting finish and should be remembered as such. The correct person won the race, and to me it would have been worse if it ended under the caution circumstances. Indy does need to implement some new rules because of the danger of the race though such as crossing the white line by the pits and to figure out what happened with the wheel. That's all lol.
@@scarecrow_9895 Uncle Bobby would be rolling in his grave with all that low-class weaving - especially crossing the line by the pits by 2-car widths! If that that's what it takes to win - well this old fan is not impressed.

Congrats to Josef and to Roger who have always been nice to me, but this does not make Indy or Penske look good. Every old school Indy fan I know is pretty unhappy with the situation. - Not saying he doesn’t deserve to win but that was a questionable call.
There was no reason to throw the red flag with 8 laps to go other than to secure a green flag finish. So from the purist’s perspective, Josef should have been the natural winner under yellow following the O’Ward wreck. I’m not sure why one red flag is wrong versus the other?
@@Indycarfanatic2024 red flags should be for safety, not manufacturing drama like nascar. Indy cars are incredibly dangerous, and the race turned into a demolition derby and almost killed fans with that tire. A one lap red with no out lap when the second place drivers team owns the track? Marcus was a sitting duck with no time to pass back, as newgarden said when he got out of the car. Casual fans and nascar rednecks loved it but it cheapens Indy big time.

Super sad for Pato, but at the same time mega happy for Josef, today was just an incredible day for racing

This fan will agree with all that John when, and only when, MP advocates for dumping these 11-year-old ugly all-the-same spec cars.
Congratulations Josef
