Mamamoo is weird but their CEO is even weirder cause he supports them when releasing these kind of songs and I love it, Hwasa wrote a whole song about her Pink Panties (it also has an MV) Wheein and Solar were also improvising once and joking about how they can never sleep well and they have to sleep in the car and he suggested make that into a song so there’s a song about that too 🤣
Pink Panty wasn't put in an album, but it did have an MV! It's a parody/cover of Blurred Lines so I don't think they'd be allowed to put in on an album, really.
1cm history: Mamamoo was goofying about their stature and Ceo said "let's make a song!!!" Akkdkfj. Just like "Sleep in the car" and "AZE GAG" is full of mamamoo jokes. Even in their concert they have a story about mamamo fighting fot their heigh.
Height is just a big deal in Mamamoo only. 'Cause their height's gap is actually 1 cm. Approximately, Byul is 161.8 but they consider it as 161. Solar is 160, Hwasa is 159 and Wheein's height is 158. Their height in google searches is actually wrong😂 And yeah their songs in 2015-2017 are almost like that except Decalcomanie era. They are known for their beagleness/live vocals/adlibs on stages. Their songs are so relatable and always in trend that's why they are so popular in Korea that time. They "kinda" change their concept/genre (well, they always try different genres and i love it lmao) in 2018, the 4 seasons era (but they're still funny and crackheads). And now, 2020, I think they will try new genre and different concept. They're killing all genres tbh😂
Also, they're all shorter than the "standard" Korean height for K-Pop idols. Looking at them stand next to others is too cute, they look smol. But that's Mamamoo, always breaking Korean standards lol. That said, I'm as tall as them so...
@@cec8520 According to the music video, yes. Moonbyul is 163. The 160 I guess is the average height between all of them with only 1cm difference between each of them. Moonbyul arguing it's 1.8 between her and Solar
1CM taller than you song was about they roasting each other. Moonbyul > Solar > Hwasa > Wheein. Their difference of height 1cm each of them. Yes Rapper Hwasa is the best. There are few of Hwasa’s rap song. Do check on that too!
as a sapphic moomoo, it's definitely considered as lgbtq+ anthem in our fandom lmao. thank you for watching the MVs on the official channel! you're right, it sucks that when you searched for the songs, the first few results were not from the MAMAMOO channel.
actually solar at the end when she had the cap on she was supposed to be jessi from when jessi was on unpretty rapstar which was a competition show for rappers
Funny story about um oh ah yeah. They all wanted to crossdress but it was too expensive to hire someome to be the female actress so solar was forced to play the female role
As a fellow Jessi Stan I think you'll appreciate this. The part in 1CM with Solar in the baseball cap she is actually doing a parody of a famous scene of Jessi in Unpretty Rapstar. Also here's a link to them doing a full parody of that season of Unpretty Rapstar with Solar playing as Jessi ruclips.net/video/Q8A1MwXSlYk/видео.html
aw, jjingjjing she was solar's salt and pepper terrier that's been with her for 18 years. sadly, she passed away last year. but she was immortalized in both "taller than you" and "my hometown" music videos. you already know about moonbyul's corgis and wheein's boyfriend/cat, so now know about solar's dog. the three used to talk about their pets at random times, as pet owners do. poor hwasa is allergic to fur so can't have a regular pet (the girls have also said she shouldn't have a not regular pet) so she has stuffed animals she treats as pets and talks about when the others bring theirs up. the most famous of these is lion (sometimes called ryan), a huge stuffed lion she's had for years. she's also got a tiny sleeping stuffed kitty a fan gave her and, more recently, the dog seen in her "watermelon sugar" cover
"both of these songs are ridiculous" 😂😂😂😂😂 yaahhh they try every genre and make songs about self-confidence, clapback to haters, love songs, horror stories, animals, heights, literally like just the random things they could find and compose, they would really do it and make a song about it😂😂
@@fyodor7813 OMG yeah I've listen to Midnight Summer Dream before but never looked up the lyrics! The disconnect between the lyrics and music lol i thought it was about love or something
Yeah it's kinda tricky btw to find their older songs. When you search it on youtube, it's mostly uploaded by 3rd party music distributor such as Stone Music or 1theK channel. You basically need to find it manually on their official Mamamoo channel. I've always tried at least to find and watch on their official channel. Gotta support my girls!!
Yep it’s a huge thing in the Korean entertainment industry. They mention it quite often and male celebrities often wear shoe inserts to make them taller! Haha
funny that you mention the 'oh, you're a woman?' could have been taken as problematic or as an lgbt anthem...because it's been both at once 'edgy' kpop fans and others like to try to use it as 'look, mamamoo is homophobic' (and some actually do use it as a homophobic anthem), esp in recent years. but when the song was released it was wholly embraced by south korea's gay community. mamamoo was already kind of a favorite but this song and mv just cemented them in that position and their songs (esp this one) get played at every korean pride rally around the country. the girls themselves are huge supporters of the community, as well, both in big ways and small (i wouldn't be surprised if someone sends you a link to a thread about that on twitter, if they haven't already) i'm surprised kudgeon isn't here yet, with his usual dissertation on "uoay", but a small sample is 'what if girls did the crazy 'boys will be boys' things that men often get away with'. as a kind of light-hearted poking fun at them, while also going "why do they get away with this?" the various characters the three play even have their own names, and there were a few teasers released of them going around doing 'typical' male things... both hilarious. one had the three go into a men's locker room together (with the members of vromance and some other rbw artists in it), the other had byul and hwasa trying to pick a girl up. their characters: moonbyul as yul, wheein as kuku, hwasa as ricky. kuku is also the name of a rice cooker brand, so became part of the reason the 'wheebyul' pairing got known as 'cooking line'. wheein's character is a rice cooker, moonbyul's head shape is supposed to remind people of a grain of rice... so, rice grain + rice cooker = cooking line pretty much every live performance of this song (and there are a lot of them!) is golden, as the girls constantly change the adlibs at several points, sculpting them to fit the locations they're at, audiences or the like. there are compilations of these adlibs, as well as compilations of those they've done for several other songs. these everchanging adlibs are one of the reasons they've been so popular at music festivals, esp college ones, since they forever called out the individual festival while performing at it (during one interview years ago, some festival promoters said mamamoo was the second-most requested act for college festivals because of their adlibs and just generally having fun together on stage. only psy beat them out for number of requests) there are definitely some lives worth mentioning individually, though: show champion episode 154 had a part swap, where solar and wheein split moonbyul's rap and byul sang instead (the adlibs for this were golden, too, as they pointed that out. "rapper solar, oh yes!, vocal moonbyul, oh yes!, rapper wheein! hwasa, you do both?" inkigayo 20150621 (that's a date) had moonbyul and hwasa show up as their alter egos for part of the performance, which still surprises many fans who wonder how they changed so quickly live (hint: they didn't) they also filmed an acapella video for the song (a short version) and then wound up doing a live performance of that (with the mv as the backtrack) at a.m.n. 2015 (the behind the scenes for that acapella video are... well, worth watching. it was done on hwasa's birthday and the girls usually try to prank each other on their birthdays)
If you get a chance definitely check out the live performance of 1cm from the fw/ss concert. Both of these songs are a blast to watch. Um oh ah yeah is the song they play around the most with the fans with when performing live. Its probably their favorite to perform i think. You can tell how relaxed and how much fun they have whenever they get to perform it on stage.
Well, if I'm not wrong, people mocked their jazzy-retro songs like Mr. Ambiguous and Piano Man bc they viewed it as too old (the songs). So MMM made more goofier songs to show their young energetic fun side . What you saw in Um Oh Ah Yeh are not Hwasa, Wheein, and Moonbyul. But Rocky, Kuku, and Yul 😂 the shocking funnier part bout the song that RBW used scandal to promote the song, bc there're lots of articles found out photos about Solar on a date with someone who look like Xiumin, but it's actually Moonbyul. Even in a photo they looked like they were kissing lol. Fun time . The order of their height, tallest to shortest: Moonbyul, Solar, Hwasa, Wheein. But compare them to other idols, they are SMOLL . In SK, their height are average. But for idols they were short bc most agencies & labels not only searched people with singing and dancing talent, but from their physical features, such as face, weight, and height. Hwasa was rejected by most companies bc of her skin and body type, and Moonbyul was kicked from her prev group and company bc she couldn't maintain her weight. It made them depressed a lot. Even it made Moonbyul obsessed with diet, as you can see how thin she was in their early days, esp UOAY. Now they are stronger with people supporting them. Wheein is also gain some weight lately. I think only Solar who could easily maintain her weight bc she loved doing sport (i.e pole dance) and ate healthy foods. Every time they had comeback, they had diet tho. But in healthy way. After that they ate a lot bc they were foodie, esp Solar and Hwasa. Wheein loves snacks, and Moonbyul loves Tanghulu. . BUT actually people didn't comment much bout their height tho. But it's important for them bc they love to diss each other's height till now. I. e 1 cm Taller Than You was created. If you watch MMMTV and Moo's Travel (if I'm not wrong), they mocked each other's height, esp Wheein who was the smollest
I didn't watch the whole video yet but i'm laughing already xD Um Oh Ah Yeh is a legend 🤣 I'm happy because you are a Moomoo now! Greetings from Argentina!
Their 'title songs' are Mr. Ambiguous >> Piano Man >> Um Oh Ah Yeah >> You're the best >> Decalcomanie >> Yes I Am >> Starry Night >> Egotistic >> Wind Flower >> Gogobebe >> Hip ~ Their other MVs, if not a cf song, it's a lead single or pre-release for their albums (e.g. Taller than you, Star Wind Flower Sun, etc.) If you want some more of Hwasa's rap, you should try listening to Sleep In the Car, Dab Dab, Pink Panty(?), I do me :) there's probably more on their 'Pink Funky' album
i just wanted to point out the "slipping something into the drink" part in UOAY was actually to get Hwasa's character (Ricky) off her, Byul just grabbed it by mistake but its reasonable a lot of people have some questions about that part. What I love about the song tho is that they're still singing about how they're attracted to the other person even after revealing Byul is in fact a woman. It's lighthearted and silly but quite a few people take the MV the wrong way for sure
if i'm not mistaken taller than you/pride of 1 cm actually topped the khiphop chart HAHAHAHAH and idk if you got the jessi reference in the mv with solar parodying unpretty rapstar jessi
I just keep refreshing your channel here and there in case something new video comes up. Love your reaction man!! Totally enjoying your mamamoo journey.
ahaha I love Um Oh Ah Yeh. Moonbyul is Yul. Wheein is Kuku. Hwasa is Riki. They have short vids going to the men's bathroom and picking up girls. The most controversial one is Solar and Moonbyul. The tabloid thought Solar is dating a guy. Moonsun ship is born. AHAHAHA Taller than you. it's a B-side song. ehehehe The dog was Salor's JingJing. She died and Solar didn't get any dog since then. They have short skit on this during their concert with animation and all. ehehehe Another crack song is Sleep in the Car, heavy rapping. Based on Solar's and Wheein's complain (during that Taller than you MV Behind) about sleeping with their make up on. We need crack songs from Mamamoo, anti -stress reliever. :)
Mamamoo company (RBW) had some restructuring since the beginning. So earlier songs are on different company website (Stone). UOAY was (I think) received well by LGBTQ ( because there are so little such contents in KPOP to begin with). Background info on Korean culture: they prefer tall, small head and long legs. So, if someone is taller than you and brags, you might bring that other person down by pointing out her big head or long torso(=short legs) proportional to her height.
I am typing as I am listening to your reaction. Mamamoo has different musical phases and for that reason I was commenting earlier for you to react to more mvs. It is kind of like a rainbow. You reacted to red (piano man) and purple (hip), and today to orange(uoay). Still missing, bunch of colors in the middle. ;)
oh yeah was uoay well recieved by the lgbtq+ community. that song is blasted at pretty much every korean pride rally ever (along with a fair number of other mamamoo songs, but those vary. this one is always there)
Songs like 1cm Taller Than You proved that MAMAMOO has no equals when it comes to trying out genres and concepts. It's a song where they roast each other's height, even though the tallest member Moonbyul is only 163cm, which is still short. They have another song called Sleep In the Car where they rap about...sleeping in the car. For more crackhead Mamamoo songs, you can check out Aze Gag (dad jokes), Waggy (animals), Recipe (cooking), and Pink Panties. Oh, and if you want to see what Mamamoo can do with cutesy concept, I would suggest Sky! Sky!, although most MooMoo have forbidden the mention of this song lol.
also, 1cm is a song abt heights (obv), moon is the tallest and the shortest is wheein but since their heights are all so close (1cm) close they basically try to get the last laugh in
Taller than you is a pre-release song before their melting album Taller than you is actually a diss song they always play around rapping and once they were doing this in their car dissing each other's heights so their manger told them it's so good so they make it into a song with their producer Kim Do Hoon
Austin, you gotta love Mamamoo's madcap sense of humour. Mamamoo is well known for their support of LGBTI community, for instance in the 'Hip', when Solar is fronting the punk rock band the two musicans are actually 2 well known Korean 'Drag Queen' performers. Also the 2nd song is essentially a 'diss' track picking on Wheein, who is 1cm shorter than the rest of the group, although the whole group are all actually quite short so this makes it even funnier..
1CM (Taller than you) is in a league of its own. Honestly couldn't wait to see this reaction. Edit: I'm allergic to Twitter, but I'd love to see you do some vocal coach reactions to Bol4/Bolbbalgan4, a girl duo. Their live performances on sketchbook are great!
sadly, sketchbook is... sketchy for reactors. it and immortal songs are both owned by kbs, which is well-known for random copyright blocks and strikes. which is sad because both are absolutely amazing music programs also, did not expect to see a df dorf comment on something kpop related. figured the overlap between those two would be miniscule
@@kalaksed I dunno, both are awesome so it makes sense to me haha. But I never knew sketchbook was that troublesome for reactors. Guess that's why you hardly see any reactions to them. Sucks because sketchbook is so good!
@@JZHassan yeah, it really does suck because sketchbook has the best quality audio i've heard from a tv program anywhere and they always have such great talent on it. plus, the host is a musician himself so manages to get some good info across even usually keeping things lighthearted and ensuring the guests are comfortable. plus i love he seems like a proud father every time mamamoo is on the show i've seen several reactors post reactions to sketchbook performance then get hit with a strike for it. at least one lost their channel for it so i've been cautious about suggesting the show since. again, it's super unfortunate and on df, i'm both looking forward to and kind of dreading the upcoming steam/graphic release. the dread is mostly because of what it might mean to my tiny self-made mods since i'm in no way an artist
Lmao! Well, we weren't joking when we said that discovering mamamoo's whole discography is a journey! One era, they are jazzy. Then, they are goofy and then next thing you know, they are mature and sexy. You'll never know what you get next with them and that's actually what makes them so good! Plus they nail every concept no matter what! 😂 Anyhow, just to answer some of your questions.. Um Oh Ah Yeh is actually well accepted when it was released. It's one of the songs that started mamamoo's growing fame back then so it's all good 😂 as for the Taller Than You, it's basically just a crack song they made by dissing each other's height! It's not that big of thing in Korea to talk about heights, but IT IS A WHOLE ISSUE when it comes to mamamoo! And it's true that their height differences is just 1 cm apart, starting off with moonbyul as the tallest down to wheein as the shortest 😂 they are just such crackheads! I cant wait for the next mamamoo reaction! Enjoy the journey ❤️
7:30 Yeah it kinda bugs me when the MMM channel isn't the first thing that pops up when I search for specific songs. It happens to their newer releases, group or solo, with the exception of HIP and the more recent CF songs
Pre-release - Official CB/title track Ahh Opp - Um Oh Ah Yeah Taller than you- You're the best Draw Draw Draw- Decalcomanie Aze Gag- Yes, I am Star, Wind, Flower, Sun- Starry Night Rainy Season- Egotistic Destiny- Hip
mmm's mv's barely get any attention on their own channel, they're all through mnet or that 1nek channel.. idk why as i'm not korean but i presume it's like a news broadcast of everysingle mv of idols so it reaches alot more people
stone music and 1thek are both music distributors. they make deals with artists from smaller companies (basically, those outside the big 3. and bighit) so that their music will be seen by a larger audience than the agency could generally reach on their own (since a lot of people follow those channels because of other artists they've found from other agencies). the distributor gets ad revenue from the videos watched through their channel, the artists from the smaller agencies reach a wider audience than possible, so it's really a win for both sides (...probably a bigger win for the distributors though) rbw quite possibly doesn't really need the distributors anymore, since they're arguably a more well-known agency now, but they've still got the contracts so still use them
Previous to MAMAMOO's 4 seasons project, their title track releases would also be accompanied by fun, silly music videos for one of their B-side tracks. Another unique element of the group is that they would release B-side tracks that were silly, quirky, and fun. It really showed that although they were loaded with talent, they didn't hesitate to make fun of themselves. They didn't take themselves too seriously, which further increased their popularity, particularly domestically.
I thought it was a variation on MMM's Hip but I was just seeing the world thru radish eyes. 🙄 UOAH is indeed an lgbtq anthem. Finally a reactor was honest and pointed out some of the "problematic" parts that demand an explanation. Everyone seems to laugh it off as MMM being crackheads as usual but imo if you miss the send up of male misbehavior then you miss the satiric intent of the MV. I think the MV takes its cue from the lyrics about a woman who flips the script and goes after the guy and is the aggressor in the relationship to ask the question What if women misbehaved like men? In addition to the scenes of sexual harassment and slipping a Mickey into the drink, the dance scenes in a public men's room and a barber shop need to be accounted for, which I take to be MMM's way of indicating that they're invading male spaces, besides impersonating men by cross-dressing. And while they were cross-dressing they added the bonus question What if you thought you were straight but you fell for someone of the same gender? It's an SNL skit meets Twelfth Night via mischievous beagles with a sly, subversive sense of humor. It's a farce but there's a method and a point to their madness. Rofl when you asked whether height was an issue in Korea. Not really, but it is in Mamamoo. 🤣 They're all short, ranging from about 5'2" to 5'4" and they're each about 1 CM apart from each other. But of course that doesn't stop them from trolling Wheein for being the shortest munchkin in the bunch or from writing a song about the mini-issue of being a mini. Wheein got her revenge in hilarious skits during their 4 Seasons concerts in 2018 & 19. Maybe you can guess - what are the two ways she could become the tallest member? Find the 1 CM skits on yt when you need a laugh.
Thank you for this! There is a guide from Purple Hawke about their crack songs :D To get some background. There is a completely acapella live stage for Um Oh Ah Yeh, did anyone tell you? 😊 And I feel like the Live Stage for Taller than you is even better. Same goes for "sleep in the car" .And thank you for appreciating rapper Hwasa, I love her rapping and her attitude. She raps a short verse in "passion flower" on Immortal Songs by the way.
For their comebacks, they usually perform a b-side along with the title track on shows. Either it’s a light/joke song (Taller Than You, Aze Gag, Sleep In The Car, Waggy) or a strong one/ballad (I Miss You, Star Wind Flower Sun, No More Drama, Ten Nights). All songs do a great job of showing Mamamoo’s range every comeback
Hello sir no this is not an official single but a pre release along with i miss you with no mv , this is their first studio album the main track is you're the best at everything ! The whole album sa a bop specially sting and seld camera 💙💙
But...Self Camera and Sting is in Pink Funky album, am I misread? While Taller Than You is in Melting. Self Camera is my fav song from the album AAAARGGHH ❤️🔥
Um Oh Ah Yeah was actually MAMAMOO's attempt to break into the market with a wider target audience. Previous to that track, all their title tracks and music videos had a lot of jazz, funk, and other retro influences. Some critisized that they sounded "old." UOAY was engineered to give a more fun, youthful, and radio-friendly track. And it worked. After this track released their popularity began to really skyrocket. Although they didn't get their first win with this song, they would soon get one on the back of this track's success.
Um oh ah yeah was the song that basically brought them to fame (their immortal song appearance also helped) and made them debt free, so um oh ah yeah had a really good impact and waz also very popular in korea since its really catchy
Height is just an inside joke for Mamamoo because they're all about a 1cm apart and like to make fun of each other for it. Plus they're one of the shortest active girl groups in Kpop, but you don't really notice it until they're standing next to another girl group. There's a picture of Mamamaoo standing next to Gfriend at a press conference and they practically towered over Mamamoo. xD
and then on to "taller than you"... it was their promoted b-side for that album, alongside the title track, "you're the best". they actually performed the song live multiple times, with their ceo hyping them up backstage before the performances, encouraging them to go more and more over the top (very, very different from usual, that) in fact, the song even exists because of the ceo. he saw the girls bickering about their height and instead of telling them to knock it off he suggested they focus that bickering and anxiety into a song (that he helped write). so, "taller than you" was born. funny enough, while reviewing behind the scenes footage of the mv shoot (that went up on mmmtv) he saw solar and wheein bickering again, this time about a lack of sleep and needing to sleep in the car while wearing full makeup due to the long shooting hours, and again went "lets make a song out of this". so... "sleep in the car" was born (it includes a line 'the ceo wants to make a song of this again') as for the height thing... it's a big deal to the girls since they're all so short. there's an interview on a show called 'qmentary' for their melting album (that the song was on) where they discuss it a bit. and you can still see them bickering over height and who gets to wear the tallest heels during one of the "egotistic" mmmtv episodes (answer: whoever gets there first tends to find the tallest heels available) poor wheein is the shortest at 159 centimeters and the other three will never let her forget it. hwasa is next at 160 cm, then solar at 161 and finally moonbyul is tallest at 162 (she loves to point out that's 162.8, though, which even made it into this song). so there is literally just one cm of difference between each pair. for americans, those heights make wheein and hwasa 5'2" and solar and moonbyul 5'3" others have already pointed out solar playing jessi near the end of the video... mamamoo actually did a whole spoof of that season of 'unpretty rapstar' that they called 'i'm pretty rapstar' where each member got to play multiple contestants at once. there are only a handful of really short videos but they're absolutely hilarious and pretty spot on as far as parody goes also it's funny that you mention them looking a bit like minions... during their four seasons concerts the girls actually put on whole skits based around this song. the s/s skit had the three shortest wish to be taller and get their wishes granted in the most ridiculous ways possible. the f/w skit reversed this and had the three tallest get shrunk down...with solar and hwasa wearing little minion costumes akin to the sumo and dinosaur suits we've seen elsewhere. both skits are ridiculous (esp the last day of the f/w concert where the girls just dropped all pretense of character and kept calling wheein by name instead of 'moomoo god' when she was in her moomoo god role). yet more proof that these women aren't just amazing vocalists but also talented comedians as well
mamamoo is simply a versatile kpop band adaptable to any situation, 1cm, sleeping in a car, azg, they are songs that started as a joke, as inside jokes of them, and ended up being a song, of which to be proud since They are incredible, then there is a song called glem, which one thinks is a normal song, but it is an advertisement and it is incredible
Mamamoo always better live but the feel of Um Oh Ah Yeh live stages is really one of a kind. You end up singing along even to all the adlibs especially at the end part with the all the vocals. Still such a fun song 5 years later
10:48 Solar is doing her Jessi impersonation from their parody of a real show called "Unpretty Rap Star". They are all short and 1cm apart from each other; 159, 160, 161, 162.8 which is just 5'3" to 5'4". They would tease each other all the time about being 1cm taller than the other short member (as if that cm makes a difference to anything) and their CEO thought it was so hilarious he had them make a song out of it. The do-re-mi and your head is slightly big lines in the song come straight from their irl teasing. Sleep in the Car is another video that comes from their real life hilarious complaining about being tired filming late at night and work in the morning. You're the Best and Sleep in the Car is an awesome react couple to this pair of songs.
Waggy is probably their wierdest and the most Solar-calm-down song of all. It's a literal puppy love song, to puppies. They dress in puppy and kitten costumes on stage. The bridge is Solar making animal sounds at the other members. Meow meow meow... ruff ruff ruff... *elephant noises doing the trunk with her arm*... One time she looked straight into the camera, "...I'm 29 years old...."
"Are all of their older songs... Weird?!" Seriously, this is why I love them AND their company. They're being themselves and challenging the standards set for idols and their company lets them do it.
I love that fact that they do goofy, weird and funny songs like these. I love to play them when I have a rough day because I quickly forget and laugh my head off. I know the girls have so much fun doing them too. How can you not love them?
Actually, they debuted with a more mature image so everyone thought they were older than their real age. So, they decided to come back with a fresh image more suited to their personalities after piano man (funny and a little crazy). 1CM is actually a pre-release and it was based by conversations they were always having about their heights, their CEO, who happens to be a producer, decided to turn it all into a music. The actual comeback and Mamamoo's first hit is You're the best.
Every album comeback they have a pre release song they get from the btracks and usually its a playful less serious tone or a full on ballad. Thats why it seems mamamoo has several 1cm taller type of mvs. They just have fun and dont take the girl group image expectations seriously, they push the boundaries everytime👍 that dog is solars old doggo jjing jjing who died a year or two ago i think. 😔
Hello Austin. Thank you for taking the time to watch their videos on their official channel! Mamamoo adlibs "Um Oh Ah Yeh" sometimes when they sing live. I highly recommend the video "chaotic mamamoo moments i can't forget" by resonance. It highlights the best adlibs for the songs "You're the Best" and "Um Oh Ah Yeh". It's a very good video.
I seriously subscribed to the right person man... Breathe No More, you are a man of taste. The other day was Eunha/Gfriend's Fever supremacy and now this? YES!
7:05 I was hoping you would have commented on that because watching it I was remembered of Solar's outfits in certain scenes and I think it's a good topic for discussion about timing and perception. We just got past the Lovesick Girls controversy around Jennie's nurse outfit because it was "sexualizing" nurses although she didn't do or say anything sexual. Well back to 2015 where Solar was wearing a "skimpier" (if you really want to address it that way, I'm trying to play the advocate for morals) nurse costume and not only being sexually available but proactively chasing the "male" of the MV. In this instance I couldn't find any controversy for that while there were an official stand by the nurse organization in Korea for Jennie's scene (9 seconds long overall). Now it's obvious that the discrimination against nurses and their work environment that is filled with sexual assault cases allegedly is a very serious topic and they clearly deserve better treatment but it's also true that politically speaking only with COVID around they managed to make a stand about their situation and the perception in society at large about their figures. This to show, like I said in my premise how timing and perception changes the significance of a costume during time, personally I have no problems with both scenes as one is comedic and the other rather dark and edgy but if I had to guess from the perspective of a sexualized health care worker I would have probably have had issues with at the very least this one, not to mention the maid outfit.
Was that Evanescence’s Breath No More? A man of culture, I see. Knew I loved you ❤️😃
OMG! I didn't expect anyone to get it so quickly!!!
Sir Austin I am an Evanescence mega fan. How could I not know it???
Darn, I was thinking My Immortal, no that's not it... but couldn't get it
@@teambellavsteamalice I can play that one too!
I love that song so much!
@@nicoler5713 aah you’re right! I always get confused and think it was in pink funky
And the CEO even told them to be even more wild while in front of cameras lol
And dont't forget about "Aze gag" which is 95% dad jokes.
He doesn't just support them in releasing songs like this, he writes/co-writes them!
Their height in google searches is actually wrong😂
And yeah their songs in 2015-2017 are almost like that except Decalcomanie era.
Comparing heights is actually quite common in korean culture though lol
Also, they're all shorter than the "standard" Korean height for K-Pop idols. Looking at them stand next to others is too cute, they look smol. But that's Mamamoo, always breaking Korean standards lol. That said, I'm as tall as them so...
I thought moonbyul was like 162 or 163? And then solar 161, and hwasa and wheein following with 160 and 159
@@cec8520
According to the music video, yes. Moonbyul is 163. The 160 I guess is the average height between all of them with only 1cm difference between each of them. Moonbyul arguing it's 1.8 between her and Solar
No in the music video Byul is 162.8 and Solar is 161 hence the 1.8cm different
1cm Taller is basically the members roasting each other- And I'm living for it!😂😂💖
1CM taller than you song was about they roasting each other. Moonbyul > Solar > Hwasa > Wheein. Their difference of height 1cm each of them. Yes Rapper Hwasa is the best. There are few of Hwasa’s rap song. Do check on that too!

aw, jjingjjing
she was solar's salt and pepper terrier that's been with her for 18 years. sadly, she passed away last year. but she was immortalized in both "taller than you" and "my hometown" music videos.
you already know about moonbyul's corgis and wheein's boyfriend/cat, so now know about solar's dog. the three used to talk about their pets at random times, as pet owners do. poor hwasa is allergic to fur so can't have a regular pet (the girls have also said she shouldn't have a not regular pet) so she has stuffed animals she treats as pets and talks about when the others bring theirs up. the most famous of these is lion (sometimes called ryan), a huge stuffed lion she's had for years. she's also got a tiny sleeping stuffed kitty a fan gave her and, more recently, the dog seen in her "watermelon sugar" cover
"both of these songs are ridiculous" 😂😂😂😂😂 yaahhh they try every genre and make songs about self-confidence, clapback to haters, love songs, horror stories, animals, heights, literally like just the random things they could find and compose, they would really do it and make a song about it😂😂
Wait they have a song about horror stories?????? Which one??? I've literally heard all of their songs 😨😨😨

The dog was Jjing Jjing, Solar's family dog who died last year :(
im not sure if height is a big deal in korea but for mamamoo it is, you should try watching their concert skits about heights 😂😂
Yep it’s a huge thing in the Korean entertainment industry. They mention it quite often and male celebrities often wear shoe inserts to make them taller! Haha
When you mentioned Hwasa kinda looks like one of your exes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You will love mamamoo's Dont Be Happy. It's a predebut song but that song is what made me stan them : )
funny that you mention the 'oh, you're a woman?' could have been taken as problematic or as an lgbt anthem...because it's been both at once
'edgy' kpop fans and others like to try to use it as 'look, mamamoo is homophobic' (and some actually do use it as a homophobic anthem), esp in recent years. but when the song was released it was wholly embraced by south korea's gay community. mamamoo was already kind of a favorite but this song and mv just cemented them in that position and their songs (esp this one) get played at every korean pride rally around the country. the girls themselves are huge supporters of the community, as well, both in big ways and small (i wouldn't be surprised if someone sends you a link to a thread about that on twitter, if they haven't already)
i'm surprised kudgeon isn't here yet, with his usual dissertation on "uoay", but a small sample is 'what if girls did the crazy 'boys will be boys' things that men often get away with'. as a kind of light-hearted poking fun at them, while also going "why do they get away with this?"
the various characters the three play even have their own names, and there were a few teasers released of them going around doing 'typical' male things... both hilarious. one had the three go into a men's locker room together (with the members of vromance and some other rbw artists in it), the other had byul and hwasa trying to pick a girl up. their characters: moonbyul as yul, wheein as kuku, hwasa as ricky. kuku is also the name of a rice cooker brand, so became part of the reason the 'wheebyul' pairing got known as 'cooking line'. wheein's character is a rice cooker, moonbyul's head shape is supposed to remind people of a grain of rice... so, rice grain + rice cooker = cooking line
pretty much every live performance of this song (and there are a lot of them!) is golden, as the girls constantly change the adlibs at several points, sculpting them to fit the locations they're at, audiences or the like. there are compilations of these adlibs, as well as compilations of those they've done for several other songs. these everchanging adlibs are one of the reasons they've been so popular at music festivals, esp college ones, since they forever called out the individual festival while performing at it (during one interview years ago, some festival promoters said mamamoo was the second-most requested act for college festivals because of their adlibs and just generally having fun together on stage. only psy beat them out for number of requests)
there are definitely some lives worth mentioning individually, though:
show champion episode 154 had a part swap, where solar and wheein split moonbyul's rap and byul sang instead (the adlibs for this were golden, too, as they pointed that out. "rapper solar, oh yes!, vocal moonbyul, oh yes!, rapper wheein! hwasa, you do both?"
inkigayo 20150621 (that's a date) had moonbyul and hwasa show up as their alter egos for part of the performance, which still surprises many fans who wonder how they changed so quickly live (hint: they didn't)
they also filmed an acapella video for the song (a short version) and then wound up doing a live performance of that (with the mv as the backtrack) at a.m.n. 2015
(the behind the scenes for that acapella video are... well, worth watching. it was done on hwasa's birthday and the girls usually try to prank each other on their birthdays)
So MMM made more goofier songs to show their young energetic fun side
.
What you saw in Um Oh Ah Yeh are not Hwasa, Wheein, and Moonbyul. But Rocky, Kuku, and Yul 😂
the shocking funnier part bout the song that RBW used scandal to promote the song, bc there're lots of articles found out photos about Solar on a date with someone who look like Xiumin, but it's actually Moonbyul. Even in a photo they looked like they were kissing lol. Fun time
.
The order of their height, tallest to shortest: Moonbyul, Solar, Hwasa, Wheein. But compare them to other idols, they are SMOLL
.
Greetings from Argentina!

i just wanted to point out the "slipping something into the drink" part in UOAY was actually to get Hwasa's character (Ricky) off her, Byul just grabbed it by mistake but its reasonable a lot of people have some questions about that part.
What I love about the song tho is that they're still singing about how they're attracted to the other person even after revealing Byul is in fact a woman. It's lighthearted and silly but quite a few people take the MV the wrong way for sure
Thank you for watching on the official channel!
if i'm not mistaken taller than you/pride of 1 cm actually topped the khiphop chart HAHAHAHAH and idk if you got the jessi reference in the mv with solar parodying unpretty rapstar jessi
I just keep refreshing your channel here and there in case something new video comes up. Love your reaction man!! Totally enjoying your mamamoo journey.
"1cm taller than you" is a b-side song
1CM is one of my top favorite songs from them. I love your confusion about both videos. It brightened my day. Great reaction!
ahaha I love Um Oh Ah Yeh.
AHAHAHA
Taller than you. it's a B-side song. ehehehe
The dog was Salor's JingJing. She died and Solar didn't get any dog since then. They have short skit on this during their concert with animation and all. ehehehe
Another crack song is Sleep in the Car, heavy rapping.
Still missing, bunch of colors in the middle. ;)
oh yeah was uoay well recieved by the lgbtq+ community. that song is blasted at pretty much every korean pride rally ever (along with a fair number of other mamamoo songs, but those vary. this one is always there)
Also, the dog in the mv is Solar's dog, Jingjing, who has since passed away. TT
Mamamoo have some really fun B-side songs. Cant wait so see you react to some of them if you're working through their discography!
As a moomo i looove your reactions sir Austin!! Keep them coming...their comeback Is almost here! 🔥💪
I love the song "Sky Sky".
Sky! Sky! Is a good song...but no, that was too cringe for my tates 😂 the perfect cute concept was Waggy
We do not talk about Sky Sky here
The beginning killed me, that was beautiful 😍
The song "sleep in the car" have the same vibe as 1cm taller than you. It started as a joke and they ended up making a whole song
(AZE GAG too)
"we make this into a song too" - Wheein 😂
Yey! I've been waiting for this! I love those two songs and I love crazy Mamamoo!
So happy you're gonna react to these MVs!!💖💖
also, 1cm is a song abt heights (obv), moon is the tallest and the shortest is wheein but since their heights are all so close (1cm) close they basically try to get the last laugh in
Taller than you is a pre-release song before their melting album
Taller than you is actually a diss song they always play around rapping and once they were doing this in their car dissing each other's heights so their manger told them it's so good so they make it into a song with their producer Kim Do Hoon
Their live performances on sketchbook are great!
sadly, sketchbook is... sketchy for reactors. it and immortal songs are both owned by kbs, which is well-known for random copyright blocks and strikes. which is sad because both are absolutely amazing music programs
also, did not expect to see a df dorf comment on something kpop related. figured the overlap between those two would be miniscule
@@kalaksed I dunno, both are awesome so it makes sense to me haha. But I never knew sketchbook was that troublesome for reactors. Guess that's why you hardly see any reactions to them. Sucks because sketchbook is so good!
@@JZHassan yeah, it really does suck because sketchbook has the best quality audio i've heard from a tv program anywhere and they always have such great talent on it. plus, the host is a musician himself so manages to get some good info across even usually keeping things lighthearted and ensuring the guests are comfortable. plus i love he seems like a proud father every time mamamoo is on the show
i've seen several reactors post reactions to sketchbook performance then get hit with a strike for it. at least one lost their channel for it so i've been cautious about suggesting the show since. again, it's super unfortunate
and on df, i'm both looking forward to and kind of dreading the upcoming steam/graphic release. the dread is mostly because of what it might mean to my tiny self-made mods since i'm in no way an artist
No matter who reacts to Um Oh Ah Yeh music video the question is always the same:
What is happening?
Anyhow, just to answer some of your questions..
Enjoy the journey ❤️

mmm's mv's barely get any attention on their own channel, they're all through mnet or that 1nek channel.. idk why as i'm not korean but i presume it's like a news broadcast of everysingle mv of idols so it reaches alot more people
stone music and 1thek are both music distributors. they make deals with artists from smaller companies (basically, those outside the big 3. and bighit) so that their music will be seen by a larger audience than the agency could generally reach on their own (since a lot of people follow those channels because of other artists they've found from other agencies). the distributor gets ad revenue from the videos watched through their channel, the artists from the smaller agencies reach a wider audience than possible, so it's really a win for both sides (...probably a bigger win for the distributors though)
rbw quite possibly doesn't really need the distributors anymore, since they're arguably a more well-known agency now, but they've still got the contracts so still use them
Previous to MAMAMOO's 4 seasons project, their title track releases would also be accompanied by fun, silly music videos for one of their B-side tracks. Another unique element of the group is that they would release B-side tracks that were silly, quirky, and fun. It really showed that although they were loaded with talent, they didn't hesitate to make fun of themselves. They didn't take themselves too seriously, which further increased their popularity, particularly domestically.
They did an acapella version of this that you should definitely check out. It's only maybe 2 minutes but they do it live and it's worth hearing.
I thought it was a variation on MMM's Hip but I was just seeing the world thru radish eyes. 🙄
UOAH is indeed an lgbtq anthem.

Self Camera is my fav song from the album AAAARGGHH ❤️🔥
Oh yes what i mean is emotion ! Self camera was on my mind and sting hehe ❤️❤️
Please react to more of wheein’s solo songs or mamamoo’s immortal song performances!!!
Llegué temprano y a la expectativa, emocionada por tu reacción 💜💜 a mamamoo 😍
Height is just an inside joke for Mamamoo because they're all about a 1cm apart and like to make fun of each other for it. Plus they're one of the shortest active girl groups in Kpop, but you don't really notice it until they're standing next to another girl group. There's a picture of Mamamaoo standing next to Gfriend at a press conference and they practically towered over Mamamoo. xD
And then when Byulie crashes Alexa's dance cover of "Eclipse", Alexa makes her _look_ tall!
My favorite is Mamamoo standing next to Lee Da Hee on Queendom.
i can’t wait for you to react to solar being a leader 🥺 thank you for the reaction btw!!
and then on to "taller than you"... it was their promoted b-side for that album, alongside the title track, "you're the best". they actually performed the song live multiple times, with their ceo hyping them up backstage before the performances, encouraging them to go more and more over the top (very, very different from usual, that)
in fact, the song even exists because of the ceo. he saw the girls bickering about their height and instead of telling them to knock it off he suggested they focus that bickering and anxiety into a song (that he helped write). so, "taller than you" was born. funny enough, while reviewing behind the scenes footage of the mv shoot (that went up on mmmtv) he saw solar and wheein bickering again, this time about a lack of sleep and needing to sleep in the car while wearing full makeup due to the long shooting hours, and again went "lets make a song out of this". so... "sleep in the car" was born (it includes a line 'the ceo wants to make a song of this again')
as for the height thing... it's a big deal to the girls since they're all so short. there's an interview on a show called 'qmentary' for their melting album (that the song was on) where they discuss it a bit. and you can still see them bickering over height and who gets to wear the tallest heels during one of the "egotistic" mmmtv episodes (answer: whoever gets there first tends to find the tallest heels available)
poor wheein is the shortest at 159 centimeters and the other three will never let her forget it. hwasa is next at 160 cm, then solar at 161 and finally moonbyul is tallest at 162 (she loves to point out that's 162.8, though, which even made it into this song). so there is literally just one cm of difference between each pair. for americans, those heights make wheein and hwasa 5'2" and solar and moonbyul 5'3"
others have already pointed out solar playing jessi near the end of the video... mamamoo actually did a whole spoof of that season of 'unpretty rapstar' that they called 'i'm pretty rapstar' where each member got to play multiple contestants at once. there are only a handful of really short videos but they're absolutely hilarious and pretty spot on as far as parody goes
also it's funny that you mention them looking a bit like minions... during their four seasons concerts the girls actually put on whole skits based around this song. the s/s skit had the three shortest wish to be taller and get their wishes granted in the most ridiculous ways possible. the f/w skit reversed this and had the three tallest get shrunk down...with solar and hwasa wearing little minion costumes akin to the sumo and dinosaur suits we've seen elsewhere. both skits are ridiculous (esp the last day of the f/w concert where the girls just dropped all pretense of character and kept calling wheein by name instead of 'moomoo god' when she was in her moomoo god role). yet more proof that these women aren't just amazing vocalists but also talented comedians as well
mamamoo is simply a versatile kpop band adaptable to any situation, 1cm, sleeping in a car, azg, they are songs that started as a joke, as inside jokes of them, and ended up being a song, of which to be proud since They are incredible, then there is a song called glem, which one thinks is a normal song, but it is an advertisement and it is incredible
1cm was actually a pre-release single for You're The Best comeback with full-length album "Melting" in early 2016
I wonder what your reaction in "sleep in the car" by mamamoo hahahahaha
Mamamoo always better live but the feel of Um Oh Ah Yeh live stages is really one of a kind. You end up singing along even to all the adlibs especially at the end part with the all the vocals. Still such a fun song 5 years later
These 2 MVs are just Iconic. Love it.
Weird?!"
Seriously, this is why I love them AND their company. They're being themselves and challenging the standards set for idols and their company lets them do it.
Not a huge fan of Um Oh Ah Yeh but 1cm Taller Than You is definitely in my top 10 mmm songs (unpopular opinion I know).
Loved your reaction, ty !
You need to listen Um Oh Ah Yeah live. That song was the reason I'm so obsessed with Mamamoo. Their live version is insane.
I love that fact that they do goofy, weird and funny songs like these. I love to play them when I have a rough day because I quickly forget and laugh my head off. I know the girls have so much fun doing them too. How can you not love them?
Aww! Glad you enjoyed it!!! Loved the react!
This is considered one of South Koreas LGBTQ anthems and is SUCH a bop.
IT'S HEREEE OMGGG. Also thank you for that wonderful piano intro 😍
Versatile Queens!!!!!!!
Fun fact they wore a minions custom on their concert 😂😂💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
I laugh when he said"Hwasa looks like one of my ex's"3:53🤣🤣🤣🤣
i love this songs :3, aze gag is more weird but funny xD
The thing I love about Mamamoo is how you never know what you're gonna get with them lol. The color of their albums complete a rainbow for a reason :)
“Theyre so weird... and i love it!” SUCH A MOOD SIR AUSTIN
Thank you sir austin ❤️ I got hooked on these 2 songs because it was hilarious and the rest was history. They aren't hard to love
Every album comeback they have a pre release song they get from the btracks and usually its a playful less serious tone or a full on ballad. Thats why it seems mamamoo has several 1cm taller type of mvs. They just have fun and dont take the girl group image expectations seriously, they push the boundaries everytime👍
that dog is solars old doggo jjing jjing who died a year or two ago i think.

YES!
As a lesbian uoay never make me upset. that song full joke and satire ;) thats why i never think that song is a problem. Love your reaction!
Height is a big deal among the 4 of them, Wheein being the shortest and always teased about it by the others hahaha
