About the profits the movie made. You forgot to mention that it earned that money despite not being released in China. One of the biggest movie markets and one of the biggest economies on earth. And Joker made all that money without a Chinese release.
@@Pamanudavy that’s my point. Joker made all that money without Chinese help. They kept their principals and didn’t bend the knee to the CCP and the gods of the box office didn’t see fit to send any plagues. (Since this movie came out in 2019 and I said no plagues were released because we didn’t conform to china’s demands, it easily seems like I’m making a covid joke and I’m not. it was an accident or perhaps a subconscious thing, but definitely not purposeful.
Joaquin Phoenix was simply unbelievable in his role. Speaks very highly on the major problems mentally ill people have to suffer every day. Hope you enjoyed!
The kiss on Gary's head before he unlocked the door was adlibbed. As was when he punched the clock off the wall. In the UK the use of Gary Glitter on the soundtrack as Joker danced down the steps caused controversy. As Gary was found guilty of multiple rapes and assaults of young girls and went to jail.
Saw this in the theatre with a friend. We left numb, in complete silence, couldn’t believe what we have just seen. Yes, he kills people, but you can’t help but sympathize with him. He kills some blah blah guys in the metro, and a vain selfish talkshow host who only invited him to make fun of him, so you you can’t help but feel some sort of understanding. I thought that was the most frightening part. One of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen
“Sometimes i remember it one way, sometimes i remember it another way. If im gonna have an origin story I prefer it to be multiple choice” Joker - The Killing Joke. The dark knight payed homage to this as well by having the joker give multiple accounts of how he got the scars.
Quentin Tarantino said of this movie "The shooting of Murray was the most subversive scene in modern movie history". I have to agree. You felt sorry for Joker because of the way he was treated by society and his Mother. When he shot Murray there a certain amount of satisfaction that got to me. Yeah you don't kill your problems, but in Joker's case, yeah you DO kill your problems. Love the subversive nature of this film. For me it gave the ones in charge a big fat middle finger.
It really showed how the inauthenticity of showbiz affects the public. A host with a huge platform decides to pick on a random "nobody" & everyone assumes it won't have consequences.
I've thought this since the movie released, and will probably continue to think it for a long time: Joaquin Phoenix delivered one of the best acting performance of all time, if not THE. It's so absolutely incredible.
Other Todd Phillips movies include Road Trip, Old School and War Dogs. Arthur's neighbor is played by Zazie Beetz, who is also in Deadpool 2. Thomas Wayne is played by Brett Cullen, who's also in The Replacements, Gridiron Gang and Ghost Rider
Joaquins best film imo is You Were Never Really Here, harrowing as heck but beautifully acted, you will need a strong stomach though due to the subject matter.
In Gladiator... story is Phoenix was so nervous they did five or more takes with no film in the camera because he kept visibly shaking. After the takes Joaquin apologized profusely, the director let him know about the cameras and it created the best Commodus
Love y'all's reactions, y'all really deserve more subscribers. This movie is amazing in my opinion. From what I've read, Joaquin Phoenix took a couple psychology classes prior to playing this role, which I think is amazing. I also read after this came out that one of the directors or producers was trying to push that mental health issues are real and bring awareness to them. I cried in the theater watching this when his psychiatrist told him that the funding was gone and they were closing, this hit home.
I think the ambiguity of this movie helps elevate it. Was anything real? Who knows. Joker is telling the story, and he is not a reliable narrator. Joaquin's performance is so incredible and the entire movie is masterfully crafted. The movie is not fun to watch because of how disturbing it is, but it is amazing.

This movie came out in a year when there was a wave of protests around the world, including my country, Chile. Phoenix performance just underlined all what was happening by then and still has consequences today. To me, this is the equivalent of Batman begins in the sense that makes a fictional character so grounded that it hurts. Thanks for sharing this, always a great time watching this with you guys
Great reaction! 35:13 Yes, Taxi Driver is the influence that everyone knows and talks about, and you can certainly see some of it´s themes on Joker, but this film's BIGGEST inspiration is actually "The King Of Comedy" another Scorsese film, criminally underrated, also starring Robert De Niro as an aspiring comedian with some mental issues (delusions and sociopathic behavior among others). The similarities between Joker and The King Of Comedy are insane!! and it is an amazing movie, one of Scorsese's best, so please watch it sometime, i highly recommend it
Joaquin Phoenix is a dark treasure. My heart has always been with him. His 23 year old brother River went in convulsions and died in his arms. Joaquin called 911, tried mouth to mouth, it didn't work; he was 19. He turned his pain into pure art. Licking his lips as Commodus in Gladiator. Singing all those Johnny Cash songs in Walk the Line. Arthur Fleck/Joker dancing in Joker. They should give that man an oscar. Oh wait they did.
Just returning home from an overnight paranormal investigation and I see this. What a way to unwind!!! Like button smashed before viewing. It's a no brainer.
If Thomas was Arthur's father he would likely take his son away from the crazy lady and then lock her up. From everything we know about him in every iteration he values family.
Amazing, but Mark Hamill's Joker is the one I adore the most. God, I miss Kevin Conroy so much. They were perfect together. I got a voice acting background and have to say that his voice has been such an inspiration for me since the Batman the Animated Series. The vocal training was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but actors like him are a great impulse to not give up - I was almost a face of Leon in those new RE games :)
This is not the DC's Joker , they used the IP to guarantee the movie's financial success, this movie could've just been called Arthur and nothing would've changed, they had to Add that Wayne storyline to attract audience
Her is one of my favorite Joaquin movies. I love this movie but I'm ngl I have zero interest in the sequel. Les Miserables is the only musical I enjoyed. And I despise when directors make weird choices just for the sake of it. Idk maybe it'll be good.
Such an odd Movie for a Director like Tood Phillips given he knack for making Comedies such as The Hangover Franchise Starsky & Hutch Road Trip Old School etc...
I feel mildly concerned with the fact that Arthur's behavior and ideology feels almost completely justified and that I'd probably be out there with a clown mask causing chaos as well if I was in Gotham. It's too bad Bruce had to see his parents die, but Thomas Wayne lit the flame of that entire powder keg. They wouldn't even be wearing clown masks or rioting without his comments. Like Murray, he got what he f'ing deserved 🤷♀️
The Joker, in any version, usually speaks the truth.. it's just his execution that's the problem. I agree, I'd be out there, but once innocent folks start getting hurt, I'd have to start helping people. It seems obvious, though, that Arthur's intent isn't to hurt good people. What pains me the most about Arthur is that he was doing everything right.. he had a job he loved, an apartment, he took care of his mother alone, he went to counseling, kept up with his meds, etc.. he wasn't a violent man until his meds were cut off & then everything else happened all at once. As someone who's been on a lot of different cocktails to help with my own illness over the years, I know how much going on & off meds can completely change your personality.. especially cold turkey like he was forced to. No excuses, but important explanations.
@@meghanmonroe Omg.. just the side effects or even withdrawals from stopping meds can be torture. And if you don't have a support system around you, strange behavior will go unnoticed. The brain is still so misunderstood.
It's a good movie, but I still can't get over the fact that they made a major point of the movie a "viral" video. Viral videos were not a thing in the 80s, because there was no way for them to become viral. Arthur would not be unaware of someone filming him at a stand up club back then, since a camcorder was about twice the size of a human head, and for it to be that steady it would have had to be on a tripod.
This movie is bad af specially the writing, it just had success because Joaquin carried it from start to finish, same reason people are going to watch that lalaland joker cr4p
28:14 the way he changed his demeanour and delivered “you’re awful Murray” was perfect acting
The whole scene, from his behind-the-curtain preparation to "...and remember folks, that's...", is just *perfect.*
