    Lovely work in progress vlog. I am glad to see one of my favourite knitting RUclipsrs showing us not just the process of finishing wips but also the time and care going into each garment/ project you work on. Hand knits, needlepoint, quilting are all slow crafts and it's nice to be reminded of that. Sometimes I get a bit frustrated with myself because I seem to make such slow progress, but your video reminds me it's ok to take your time as long as you are happy with the end result. Thank you.

    Mel what a great episode. We all get stalled on projects but you gave some real tips and inspiration as to how to overcome these blocks. Great job working in different dye lots, and also showing the miracle of blocking! One comment...I have had good results with sewn bind offs with unspun yarn. You have to work with short lengths and just add more as you go, and also not tug on the sewing strand, just guide it through. It can be really relaxing and the result is always worth it. I am at the tail end of my Level 3 Masters for TKGA. As soon as I submit, I will be digging through my languishing projects and trying to finish things. Thanks for all the work you put into these videos!

    This was a very fun and eclectic one! I have used needlepoint wool in a knit. I was given a skein in exactly the right color for the bottom half of a Kentia, with an alpaca blend for the lace yoke. Looks absolutely like a normal yarn once blocked.

    Well done Mel,
    You made amazing progress on your wips, and they came out beautifully. I also set myself goals to get those tedious things finished, usually in the mornings when my mind is freshest. But lately my feet have been dragging so I appreciated the additional tip of timing those sessions for some extra motivaion. Im going to apply that to my amigurumi gifts Im making for staff at my local hospital. 13 and 3/4 projects down and 1 to go, and over 1 year in the hooking, I'm over amigurumi 😓.
    Your needle work and overall finish on your pants were especially striking, I would love to do that in a skirt, so beautiful.
    Thankyou for your channel, Im always on the lookout for your new features, they are facinating, you take fibre art and crafting to the stars 🌟 , it's a class above the rest, thankyou.
    Happy click clacking,
    Tara

    @efenwick8608 Месяц назад

    What a great video! I’m not very familiar with machine knitting so it was really interesting to see how you do it & how you incorporate it with hand knitting! Ask your sister for a photo of her modeling the sweater you gifted her! I’d love to see the final fit! 😎👍 Your mitered square blanket is amazing, too. I knit one for my daughter last year starting in April & barely finished it the week of Christmas to gift her and it wasn’t nearly as big! I also had my squares all in the same direction. I really like how you have them pointing in to the center. I’m sure that requires a different pick up method. Your talents know no bounds with sewing, embroidery & cross stitch! I can barely get a sock knit up with the heat these past few weeks. Do you find your knitting slows down in the summer time vs winter? Can’t wait for your next video - keep em comin’! - Erica

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  Месяц назад

      Thanks so much Erica!! I don’t seem to slow down on knitting seasonally, but for some reason I only want to pick up my spinning projects in the summer, which is sort of odd. For knitting I just park myself in front of a fan and keep going, no matter how hot it is 😂

    I actually squee-ed a little seeing your new video is up 🤩 Thank you for taking your time to record/edit/upload this wonderful treat to us all. In the mean time I have been re-rewatching your older videos.
    I totally understand not wanting to knit on big needles. I can not stand it either. I have UFOs knit on 4mm needles sitting here since 1 year and I can not bring myself to working on them (probably for the frog pond). I just LOVE tiny stitches so much and the projects work up so quickly on 3mm for me, simply because there is much less hand movement and much less moving stitches along the needles - you just go go go. At this point I am so far gone that I knit all my sweaters on 2,5 mm. Can't get enough of how neat tiny stitches look. Also, it is way to warm in winter in Germany, I literally can't wear anything thick. 😅

    Fabulous progress across all creative modalities. For future applique projects, you can use applique scissors, which have a pelican bill, to cut away the top fabric. Stork scissors are a little more challenging for avoiding poking through both layers. I think one of the best things about making is all the little decisions and problem solving, whether it's adjusting the amount of stitching around the project to make matting easier, to changing the type of elastic used on your pants to improve support of the weight of the pants, to deciding where to use the second dye lot on a sweater. It makes your brain work in a particular way, and increases your knowledge base, which can be applied to future projects. Well done!

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks Jillian! I do have a pair of appliqué scissors with the pelican bill, but they felt slightly too large for this application. I wonder if they come in different sizes… something more to explore! Totally agree with your lovely comments about problem solving, it’s one of the great joys of doing all this ❤️
