Star Citizen 3.21.1 has brought so many fantastic things with it into the PU and probably a few bugs as well. In this video I will be going over exactly what kinda of loadout my mole has from the components, to mining lasers, modules and the mining gadgets I bring on hand when mining in the verse. I will go on a quick mining run so you guys can see it all in action while we get after some valuable ores. I did manage to find a solid borase and taranite rock in this video of large sizes so that was exciting. I go over quite a few of my tips and tricks that I've learned over time with mining that help me along when I'm mining alone and you get to really see the different lasers in action to a pretty solid effect. By far one of the best mining tutorials I’ve seen. Well earned like and follow. Also like your mindset. Everybody is complaining about the „Fairy Dust“ when structural salvaging, but have they ever seen a stone burst up by ultrasonic soundwaves? Used in medical care for years. Kidney stones shattered and scooped by doctors.
Subscriber earned! I just traded my Eclipse for a MOLE last night and was looking for some tips. I had a Prospector in the past and didn't find it lucrative enough over ROC mining Hadanite so I traded it up for a Vulture (I think?). Now that I have outfitted my Corsair with (4) AD5B and (2) AD4B ballistic gatlings and can tear through ERTs like paper dolls, I decided to do the Eclipse to MOLE upgrade. First flight out of Orison, I could not figure out why I couldn't use my thrusters to leave the hanger! I activated VTOL on a whim and lo and behold, that was the issue. Anyway, came here for some pointers as soon as I docked with Seraphim and enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing with us!

Fun fact; you can take off by boosting and not being in VTOL of you are ever in a pinch

I got used to the weight and mass of the MOLE fairly quickly. Took one trip to a Lagrange station and I realized she needs a few acres to woah down.
True story: Last night I died in my Mole (w/a load of ore) when I used a side turret but forgot my helmet. Respawned and thought "Hey, why not try to recover my body and ship?" So I called up my Prospector and flew out to the death marker, sure enough, my Mole was hovering about 60 meters over the site where I'd died, but how to get in it? I decided to use the Prospector to force my mole down near the surface where I could access the elevator. Slowly bumped it down from above...tough because by then a dark night and the Mole was over a slope. After parking the Prospector on top the hill and sliding down the slope I was just able to jump on the elevator and once in, looted my dead body. Then I flew the Mole into space, dumped my dead body (laughing as I chucked it out the elevator) and continued on to the refinery to process the ore (about 300k) and claim my Prospector...mission accomplished. Just another day in the verse!
Great mining vid, I just picked up a mole during iae, so your vidz are very helpful with this transition from the prospector to the mole. Keep up the great work.

I just bought a ROC, having only done... guest labor... at Klescher, and was playing with the thought of working my way up from that to a Mole from mining alone... but now I'm kind of considering just going for a Mole at once. Great vid!

So many people take a negative look things that get added...but the games in alpha state lol. We are all basically playing to be game testers essentially.
Great video. A possible improvement would be telling us the key press you use. Like how did you stop the drop down the ladder. Also what buttons do you press to activate the active modules. Stuff like that.
I'm running a fully crewed Mole. Laser 1 is a Helix II with three surges. Laser 2 is a Hofstede II with 2 Focus III's. My third laser is Helix II with 3 Reigers.
For rocks up to (around) 15,000, the Left Hofstede is enough to break the rock. For rocks from 15,000 to 40,000, I add enough power from the right Helix to start charging the rock, then break it with the Hofstede II. For Rocks bigger than 40,000, I set the left and right lasers to 100%, then use the center laser - hitting all three surges if necessary. With this I can break rocks (depending on their resistance) to about 80,000. If I add a Sabir gadget I can usually get to 90,000. I have not cracked a rock above 90,000 with this setup. These masses are based on rocks containing at least 25% quantanium, gold, taranite, or Bexalite.
As a Focus3 enjoyer you have my respect for great skill with these tiny Green Zones.
Helpful when you're a solo miner, then you can tackle the big rocks without sacrificing laser power
@@epic_grayfox Yes its great, I run central Hofstede + 2 Helix one with passives one with actives and have additional Surges in ship but your setup certainly allows more consistent high mass breaks without having to waste time replenishing actives. And even my Helix with the Actives has one F3 by default I guess I am not as good as you but I might try it when servers are more stable again.
there was a time I was using the Hostfede with Focus III. Every rock I broke was easy, but many rocks I couldn't break... lol. Gotta say tho the size 2 ones don't have that much trouble

i upgraded my prospector pledge to a Mole. totally worth it just for time effectiveness. set up similar to this guy so i can break just about anything i come across. and if i want a prospector in game, i can easily just buy it after 2-3 good mole runs. especially if i ever get lucky again and find a 60k+ rock with 50% quant again. that was a motherload to end all motherloads. burned up all my surge modules and killed an optimax, but didnt care at all! haha

i cant wait till they add freight elevators and let us pick and choose which freight to load. can just stockpile up the cheap stuff and wait till you have a full freighter load to haul it.

i like my #2 as a holf with dual focus 3 for a fat window for the small rocks. that way i don't struggle with instability on the small boys.
Smart man, it does make it so much easier. Very forgiving when the instability or server lag is being finicky
I'm just now getting back into mining. Been salvaging a good bit but taking a break due to the bugs with the scrapers I'm facing. You're right man. I could not agree more. The way people are acting over the claw is pathetic. They are so damn selfish and inconsiderate. Ok, CiG flubbed up a bit with the selling feature of the Reclaimer. Let it go!!! It's a damn claw that if we're being honest, is a waste of space that would not have functioned the way they wanted anyway. I for one can appreciate what they did with it... But, apparently that sentiment is not widely shared....Oh well...They'll get over it....
VKOO is the fastest quantum drive in the game, it's size 1 and most size 1 ships can't fit a large enough quantum fuel tank to actually use it effectively, the only ship that can use it well is the banu defender.
Yeah, coming in without VTOL used to be pretty harsh slamming into the deck lol.
Good tutorial , was mining and blew up a lot of rocks while learning had to pay 300k of repair for my mining modules to come back cause i guess i got them destroyed xD
I've had all 3.21 an issue with scanning not giving me ranges, rock icons disappearing and not giving me ranges and the yellow and purple outlines changing or not being consistent. I assumed these were common and known issues. are these not happening for everyone?
Also the impact and arbor can be just as effective a pair of lasers as the helix and hofstede but with instability bonuses rather than resistance bonuses.
The combination of materials define the resistance a d instability and you might not be able to crack a 22k rock while some 40k rocks will be easy.
Absolutely! That's what makes your mining location so important so you have cheap materials that benefit your mining experience
testing this out to see. had a 63k gold rock with only 11% resistance and 2 helix with stampedes werent even enough to break it. build might be wonky if they made changes in the back end again, but it may be worth looking at
You say 2 helix with stampedes but what other modules did you have? You need to push atleast 10k laser power to break a 60k rock
@epic_grayfox I had the helix with 2 rieger c3s and a stampede. The other person had a helix with a stampede and unknown other modules
I feel like that should have been enough power. BUT, if you had 2 helix on the same rock the optimal zone would be practically non- existent because of the 60% reduction per laser. I'm willing to bet he had focus IIIs on there to off set this. But that would've really hurt his laser power. Plus 11% resistance isn't that high, but that's 10% laser power you're missing on a rock that is already difficult. Instability matters too.
Sometimes if Instability in your rock is too high, it won't charge like it supposed to. This can go both ways, sometimes it'll charge a rock without enough power. Sometimes it won't. Finicky system
I tried to grab the Hofstede S2 in the CRU L1 platform and for some reason only found the S1 for sale...

I've been using my poor little prospector around HurL2 station and getting frustrated by the amount of gold and quant roids I haven't been able to break because they are Mole size. I saw one the other day which was 150scu and 60% quant. The common material on most of them is either aluminium or corundum. .. . just thought I'd mention it.

@@epic_grayfox Yeah, you might need to pray to RNJesus a bit more lol. .. I feel the need to confess I made a slight mistake there. Seems the quant is never with aluminium or corundum. It's with something else (forget what tbh) that doesn't have as high a cluster value. Might be a bit more rubbish with the high value stuff. There's always a catch isn't there?
I just bought the Arrastra and got the Mole for a loaner. About to see if a loaner can be upgraded. Hope so. One thing I really don't like, that I would think would be an easy string of code for them, is the crazy amount of loaners I have in my fleet that I don't want. What I mean that they can easily fix is if that person has an arrow, don't give them another. I have 3 arrows, never bought one. Don't want one. Two of several ships also, again, don't want the 2nd and can't imagine who would unless all they did was test builds. I hope the process from grey to flight ready has improved and we're not waiting until 2029 for the Arrastra! Great video! About to see if I can upgrade this loaner. At least it's the ONLY Mole I have. Had the prospector but my Nomad and ROC made me MUCH more money than my best outing with it and going by per hour, expect it will beat out the mole as well.
You can upgrade loaner ships. I figured you could, but there was also the chance they were treated like rentals, which cannot be upgraded.

Hi Everyone! First, Fox amazing video, brother! This has taught me a lot about the Mole and to solo mine with it. But I have a question. You mention getting out and changing the modules. Did they change that recently? Because when I try to get out and swap out modules, they show "locked" with a little icon. Thanks and keep it up with the amazing videos.
Thanks for watching! So you have to unlock ships ports to swap out modules. Right alt + K while in the pilot seat will do this. A prompt will appear on the UI that says "ship ports unlocked". That will allow you to do it. Modules are just like any other exterior component

Although I’d ask, how are you getting so much power to the Helix II? I’m unable to break anything over about 22k.
I messed up my laser placement I noticed and put the helix on the back left, could that have something to do with it? I’m still in optimal range though
If you're in optimal range then you should bw fine. Although I find that a bit weird cause that would mean your front laser is basically directly on top of the rock to achieve that. You sure it's not at "max"(first range marker) range?
@@epic_grayfox I figured out what issue is, I’m a noob to mining and didn’t realize I needed to run full power to weapons to achieve max power on my lasers 😂
I was pretty proud of myself though with your “throttling” method I managed a 33k bexalite rock with 64% resist on my last run along with a 25k gold rock at 20%. Both of which were over 60% concentration so I made out like a bandit. It was all in Astroid belt between CRU-L1 and ARC-L3 Aarons Halo I think is what they call it
Does the Rieger C3 actually currently work? When on my helix with 1 C3 and 2 focus 3, it says I have -5, -5, +25. But total laser power is 90. Though similar build on my pros with a Rieger c2 has laser power at 114
As far as I know it's been working for me. I run the 2 reigers on my helix like normal and I break rocks that are definitely too big without them
This a very nice guide, really helpful... with a Rock Mass 20490 I have been unable to fracture it even with the Stampede ON (using your setup Rieger C3 x2, Helix II)... i'm wondering if rock might be bugged since it does not warm at all
i have no problem with the claw on the reclaimer i love it and the Money i can make in a few hrs ... but landing it is another story takes about 30 min to land can be better but i am used to it now
Hey, I did the mole configuration like in your video. Unfortunately I can't fully understand a problem. For me, the Helix 2 Laser is also mounted on Weapon Slot 1, which is supposed to be the front middle gun. However, when I sit in the mole, the laser is mounted on the left outer gun and not in the middle front as configured. Do you know what that could be?

I wouldnt go for FR for both shields, switch one for industrial. I even do that in millitary builds.

Hmm, I pimped my #1 laser like you did, but it couldn't even break a 17,000 mass Bex rock. Maybe they've been doing things in the background again.
Did something change? I'm running the exact same build and i cant crack anything over 15k mass even with stampede.
Not that I've seen. Unless it has crazy high resistance, it is probably the server that is causing you issues
I found some 40k+ rocks, but impossible to mine even with the 3 surges on the helix :/

Was myt laser power not going down? I don't think I even noticed. Although the stampede gives the appearance the laser is turning on and off but it's actually not

I like your MOLE build, but I have to point out some things considering your choice of QT-D. Saying that the XL-1 is the "best" is highly subjective and that's totally fine, but stating that it's the fastest and will outpace everything is incorrect. Yes, it's fast, but it'll still get beaten by the Size 1 VK-00 and the Siren in terms of raw top speed. The XL-1 also sucks ass in terms of efficiency compared to anything but stealth drives, it has only 1/3 of the range of a Hemera but is only twice as fast.
The only reason I'd put an XL-1 into a MOLE is if I'd go for Quantanium only to make it back to the Refinery in time.
When I say best I mean fastest, as it has the fastest stage 2 speed of any other Q drive. The mole has enough fuel to jump essentially to and form anywhere in Stanton before needing to refuel and generally speaking most people aren't traveling long distances to mine. Unless they want a change in scenery which I totally do that sometimes.
Definitely a fuel guzzler, that much is a fact but I prefer speed over anything to cut down on travel time.

The paint is subscriber flair from 2022. You can buy it on the pledge store for ~$15 but you have to be a subscriber to buy it so stick another ten bucks on the price.

That pulse where it looks like I keep jolting the rock is the effect the stampede had when active.
Can the passive modules be turned on and off?
They cannot, they are always working unless removed

Man, as a new player trying to learn everything about Mole mining the whole discussion about the Reclaimer was really disruptive, I had to move the video back and forth several times instead of watching it to the end.

I mean, if you're talking just the lasers and mods you're pushing 300-400k on the high end. If you are talking ship components included then it's more like 1Mil

One question: Does diverting power to front shields help reduce exploding rock damage?? I've endlessly searched and can't find any mining guides that talk about this.
No. Diverting full power to shields just causes them to regenerate quicker. It does not grant you additional protection.
Your shields make very little difference anyway because when a rock is overcharged and explodes, it is considered a ballistic attack, so a significant portion of the damage by-passes your shields.
Ok, the Erkul dps calculator shows a maximum physical absorption of 30% for all shields. So uprgrading shields (to FR-76 for example) to prevent rock shatter damage makes no sense?@@aforgottenhero
It will mitigate some of the damage, but it will not stop a fully overcharged rock from killing you
whats the keybind to "juice" the rock?
Check under mining key binds to see what it is mapped for you. Mine is 1 3 7 on numb pad but sometimes it's different

To be fair, you're absolutely right. Current state of the game really only lends itself to profitability of career fields. In the future when they implement varies game mechanics there will be differing needs for the available materials that will balance out the system.
As it sits now? 100% the reclaimer can out pace most everything for profit.

It would be helpful if you would TELL PEOPLE HOW you are doing things such as CHARGING the mining laser like you were. For the past 6 months all I have done is salvage or buy & trade. I am tired of that so I bought a MOLE. I have never mined before and trying to watch videos. More TIPS on telling people HOW to do something would be great. Thank you for your video, great information, mainly on the loadout.

@@epic_grayfox yea O tried those modules, blew my ship up. I switched modules with Left Alt 1,2,3 but as I tried to switch back to a different module it wouldn't show the modules any more and show "unfound module" or something like that. I've tried mining and fail every single time!!
