Reminder. You can't make a wrong choice when you are investing in yourself and learning skills! PS. I didn't include Houdini because I put it more in VFX than 3D. Honorable Mentions : Plasticity, Substance, After Effects, Spline, CAD, Softimage, Twinmotion, Katana by the Foundry. There are more. I hope with this vid I can just inspire you and just make sure your having fun with it
I bought a Maxon one this Black Friday, and honestly, the monetary investment has kept me locked in. There are fewer channels than Blender, but the quality is higher, and I find C4D 8x easier than Blender to conceptualize. There is so much noise in the Blender space, and the program feels like a forklift in a warehouse-C4D feels like a manual car. Conceptually, it's harder, but I know where to sit down, grab the wheel, and shifter. Weird comparison but I find it pleasurable where I just kept getting stuck with blender although c4d feels harder
Yep I started with 3ds max, also used Blender and Maya. For me, Cinema 4D BY FAR had the most intuitive, user friendly, interface. It made learning a lot easier
Useful advice on the 3D world. Invested so much time on C4d and Redshift. This year Unreal Engine has to be learnt 🙃 Seems like an Air Fryer of the 3D world.
This is such a great video and so intimate I feel like I must confess. I do set design for theatre. When the pandemic hit, I found myself with lots of extra time. I decided to learn 3D. I started with Blender for about 6 months??? Then I decided to learn Maya as they released the Indie License in Canada. A year later I licensed 3DS Max (Indie), then went back to Maya last Apr for no other reason than because everyone was screaming Maya Maya... I really enjoyed 3DS Max and its community. I don't even work in the 3D industry so no idea why I ghave been causing myself soooo much anxiety over the last 4 years. I started playing with Blender again in Dec and I'm having a blast. I'm debating whether to renew my Maya in Apr but that's another story. I just love to create and have fun. I'd love to learn C4D but it's way too pricey for now. Maybe one day. Thank you for this video. It alleviates some of my anxiety and misguidement over which software to use which at the end of the day is so ridiculous when I think about it. I wish I could control my brain better. Thank you kind Sir.
Oh yeah for sure! Thank you for sharing! Do whatever makes you happy. People, well normally the louder people online tend to be tribal with things and honestly it's all just digital tools and preference. If your enjoying blender, I get it. I like its response time and viewport more than C4Ds. But if you enjoy using premade assets you cant beat UE5's viewport and easy or lighting and stuff. But I get why people enjoy blender 100%. All of em honestly ha They're all powerful and let us do amazing things from a chair. Wild times :) Keep doing what your doing and enjoy!!
working at studio doing mograph... C4D + Houdini, some UE. VFX... Houdini + Maya ... there's also Max. Gaming... Maya, Houdini, Blender, UE, Unity. Generalist work... Maya, Houdini, Max, Blender, UE. People using Blender thinking they can work anywhere are just flat out lying to themselves, period.

Love the honesty you bring in, Derek.
Feels like talking to a old friend !
Hey Thanks!

Great! Teach us Unreal Engine
I shall!
Yes please
Great video as usual! Really looking forward to that UE/C4D comparison.
Coming soon! Thanks!
Thanks man!
No prob, thank you.

But it's totally a viable option to begin with and fully freelance with.
Some people, myself included, don't want to work at a studio or on a team. There's pros and cons to all of it either way for sure.
😊
maybe huodini is the one who rule them all :)? what do you think?
