There's Nothing Like AC Unity

- From top to bottom, AC Unity is an unfinished game with more bugs than an ant colony and a line of code that was probably first written in Braille and then translated to the devs by a dyslexic monkey. It is a miracle the parkour or the stealth works at all with how complex and messy it is for a game of its time, the story is the definition of the word mid, and there is at least one game in the Assassin's Creed series that handles one of the pillars of the assassin fantasy better than AC Unity:
The stealth is more developed in AC Brotherhood, the parkour is more "parkourable" in AC 1, the story is better in Black Flag, the voice acting is better in Origins, and the graphics are better in Odyssey. AC 1 serves a truer assassin fantasy, AC 2 gives a better look at the development of an assassin in training, and AC Syndicate has better-designed black box missions. Apart from customization, Unity is not the best at doing anything. And yet... this is one of my favorite games of all time and is in my top 3 AC games after Brotherhood and Origins. And, by an extraordinarily large margin, I have spent the most hours playing AC Unity over any other videogame.
To me, I think AC Unity is a masterpiece that was shot in the leg on its way out of the factory, beaten over the head with a baseball bat, and then told to stand proud for all of us to see. It's broken, I get it. But at the same time, it is an experience that is greater than the sum of its parts. When I play it, when I enter that rumored flow state that oh so few people have had the privilege of experiencing, I feel what no other Assassin's Creed game could ever make me feel. A 9-year-old game STILL feels like a next-gen entry in the franchise, I still feel like I am either telling or uncovering a story before me in every street of Paris.
Out of all of the assassins, Arno was the one who always felt the most "mine". The customization really lets me make Arno more of a shell for my own preferences in what I would want an assassin in Paris to look like. And to me, that is something that really adds to the addictive quality of the game., It's the closest I would ever want to get to the notion of making your own assassin.
In this video, I wanted to make a more slow-paced routine, using more classic assassin things like social stealth, money bombs, some cool parkour, and berserker darts. I usually make much faster videos, with more aggressive stealth, but I wanted to slow down just to appreciate the mechanics that truly fall in line with an assassin (not the style I normally use doesn't, only that I usually play more like how I think Altair would complete a mission). I also really wanted to bask in the beauty of my new custom channel outfit you see in this video :) Made by KinimodXD and LordofThe9.
Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released in November 2014 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, and in December 2020 for Stadia.

The amount of depth, detail and absolute immersion this game has..
It looks incredible
@@jax_wildguess it's a mod btw
I haven’t played Unity in a while. Is this a retexture of a set already in the game or a new mesh entirely? It’s gorgeous.
They did a great job, it looks amazing.
Btw how did you manage to replay this mission in daylight? It always loads at night for me... did you fast travel to change the time of day or something else?
We cant move on from Unity cause its like a time capsule of a perfect unfinished masterpiece.
based
and there's no need to move on if the game still works. It's still the game we've been playing with for 9 years. And dude, I've been playing multiple games that old for this long
@@WinderTPyeah idk why people act like games aren’t playable after the year it releases lmao
People are babies 😂
With mods you guys can make this better
If Ubisoft wants to bring back the original feeling to the AC origins. They should start from unity and build from there. This is the best AC game in terms of movement and feel yet. Even the environment is pretty on point. I think they just didn’t know what they had
I agree
Visuals as well. It was so damn good looking. It still holds up quite well to this day.
My honest opinion is that Ubisoft has lost all their talent since this game came out unfortunately. All those devs who worked there and designed these games a decade ago are now gone, and it makes me sad. Also makes me very worried about the Sprinter Cell remake.
Fr they gotta go back to the drawing boards
@@12xenn45"Completely destroy" is a bit too much imo.
why is it so hard for ubisoft to make ac unity again BUT BETTER??? They already have the perfect foundation for it, it would be such a slapper and shit ton of profit for them too? why dont they do it?
ubisoft is basically the monkeys paw of game developers
Because current noobs keep buying everyone of their new cash-grabs.
they already did with Syndicate, give it a try
They did... that's Sindicate
@nal4883 kind of. The grappling system with many large caps almost entirely overhauls free running, and the gang system with open publicity of who they are (other than being assassins) doesn't really fit either. On top of that, you have Jacob and Evie acting completely seperate from the order other than helping out the one we see in London, which is just more gang stuff and doesn't match up with the other games with how they did things. The combat is great, and the grappling changes stealth in fun ways which is all good, but it's not exactly building on the foundation of Unity either. The free running in syndicate is more clunky anyway. Syndicate is like being a gangster with assassin tools, and it just doesn't work overall.
It's sad this game launched and was left the way it was. It's easily the peak of the whole franchise. 4 player coop, incredible map, amazing graphics, fluid combat, dope time period, incredible crowd mechanic.
Just needed more time, and they didn't care.
Co op was amazing
I still think it's absolutely criminal that co-op never returned, not even in at least Syndicate
On the contrary. They cared too much so they spent more time on things than they were supposed to. Ubisoft is French, this is the only AC set in France
You're probably one of the people who shit on the game when it came out in the state that it did. They moved on because you people can't stop shitting on stuff all the fucking time. Then you come back all "nostalgic" years after.
its crazy how Unity came out almost 10 years ago and its still better than most games coming out today
Agreed
such a generic comment
@@Mentalex0uh oh. Comment polizia
Until ac mirage came
@@user-sky762 mirage looks promising so far, I hope it turns out to be great and im exited for it, however i think Unity will always be the best weve ever gotten for parkour
This dude has the best titles.
No click bait. No hype. No dumbing down. Just plain and simple for what it is.
The truth.
😎😎
They should have kept this parkour and movement system in newer titles. It was the reason why I think Unity is one of the best Assassin's Creed games even if the story wasn't perfect. It felt great to play it and that's super important.
The immersiom is unbeatable. From having your own guild to the small details of warming your hands by the fire, contemplating at the balcony and even getting a cup of joe at the cafe. Amazing game and I hope one day we get another of this caliber with small details and good assassinations. Phantom Blade is still to me one of the coolest weapons.
1:11 watch those 2 jumps and then tell me again about immersion
Facts phantom blade is so cool weapon
1:11 That's legitimately impressive
defying physics 101
@@AltairStealthhow to do that pls tell us or make video
I think the worst thing about mirage is that you can’t use the hidden blade to kill someone in public and remain unnoticed, there is really no low profile assassinations anymore and that is one of the coolest things about the series before the shift, is literally being that blade in the crowd, all anyone sees is you putting your hand on someone but next thing they notice that person has collapsed and the person in the hood who walked past is nowhere to be seen.
yeah its a shame
This was exactly my point when mirage dropped. Instead, Basim does a lunging sprint jump and stabs you in the head for everyone to see, or brutalizes you in some other extremely obvious way.
@@user-ir6nh2gy6xive just started playing mirage. I do miss the old more subtle ways you could kill. I also wish they would bring back picking up killed soldiers weapons. I remember picking up spears and launching them with ezio. Was the best.
It was so smooth, yet the parkour felt like it had weight at the perfect moments. You were floaty and quick when you needed to be, yet there was a limit and a sense of gravity whenever you fell. Truly underrated in my opinion
no longer underrated look at the views!
Right? The weight of Arno when u moved him was very good. Now the games just feels so light when u move the character
Couldn't have put it better myself. Yes, it has the best motion.
Love the outfit. What a great community. I will never move on from this as it was simply the most ambitious title ever done
Couldn't agree more
@@AltairStealthwhat outfit is that?
While like I felt it was to for a ubisoft game made in France I felt it was way to short and the story just ends also there wasn't enough side content.yes there were the side stories but there was no real cutscens. Idk it felt big and small at same time where I was scratching for things to do.
Yo, is that a mod is that an actual outfit in the game?
I don't know how they made the city for this game because there is soo much detail and it feels like it would've taken forever
A very underrated game. It deserves a lot more love
It's not so underrated now imo
@@Josolosactually a bit overrated these days but definitely a great game.
How is it underrated when literally everyone in the AC community says it has the best parkour and more
@quicklearner5g Except Ubisoft apparently
It's the only AC game where you can realistically expect to get killed now and again.
I rejected all health upgrades myself and during chase sequenced, I was very often one wrong corner away from getting run through with a sword or shot in the back to die like a dog in the filthy gutter.
That's my favorite thing about Unity. Except for the city. Fucking hell. The city.
Currently on my first French language playthrough, trying to repeat all of the French sentences I hear to brush up on my French, which I haven't used in 30 years.
Loving the immersion without the bizarre British accents. Hahah
This game was so ahead of its time. Its truly sad how much talent Ubisoft has lost since then. I always want to imagine it releasing this gen where the hardware could handle it and where the co-op worked (that was honestly the biggest disappointment)
Ikr
Makes me wonder how different things would be at ubisoft if they had waited and released this game just 6 months later. Unity marks the beginning of the end for both AC and Ubisoft.
I personally feel that they haven't lost their talent just have underutilized their talent making safe yet mediocre game in order to make a profit. Ubisoft until 2014 - 2016 innovated when it came to the video game industry as a whole now they just a shell of a former self unfortunately. Hopefully I'm wrong about Ubisoft in the future.
Ubisoft didin't lose talent, they lost passion. They wanted to chase the hype of The Witcher 3 and as a result they watered down the whole series' identity. And it worked; the new games are some of the best selling ACs in the whole series. Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla made assloads of cash.
Co op worked good for me on PC tbh. Have some great memories of teaming up with my buddy, showing him the ways of the creed, it was his first AC game.
I’ll never forget watching the gameplay trailers for this game… I remember thinking this is the future, of course the parkour and fighting mechanics would reach this point. Who would’ve thought we take one step forward just to take ten back😂
pain
Ubisoft took 100 steps back.
This feels like a special dlc just dedicated to you
It literally does
@@AltairStealthit technically is
@trainthomastinkelton8950 roxylo?
It's always mesmerising watching your playthroughs, the confidence in your every move just has that gigachad assassin energy. And that final assassination gives out that AC1 vibe when Altair first did his public air assassination and if intentional, such a nice throwback. I am slowly learning to be aware of my surroundings in ACU, and recently felt that rush of confidence when I threw a poison bombfrom the ground through a second story window to get rid of a guard inside before doing the objective. It's one of those moments that makes you feel extra stealthy, clever and badass. You continue to be an inspiration and I can't be happier to see the community being revitalized.
epic man im so glad youre playing more confidently
StealthgamerBr also very talanted stealth games, you should check him out
You are not alone. Unity is by far my fave in the series, and today it plays absolutely great. The bugs are all but squashed, and Paris stands as the apex of the series parkour playgrounds. The story is a dark, romantic, classical tale. Stealth is important, if janky, because you can easily be overwhelmed by guards. The soundtrack, the porous nature of the city, the painterly art style, the outfit aesthetic, the scale of the buildings and landmarks, it is all simply a masterpiece. Unity delivers on the promise of Assassins Creed. It was a misunderstood genius. And now with Mirage, my hope is ignited for a remaster of Unity, and a return to dense, detailed cityscapes with deep parkour mechanics instead of the bloated Witcher Wannabes we've had to endure since Origins.
I agree origins is not a real ac, but is fun asf to play
Unity is the ultimate Assassins creed game.
Yes
if only Ubisoft followed this "style", we could have had a true masterpiece called "Assassin's creed" instead of something called "Mercenary's creed"
This outfit is so beautiful, really fits your logo !
We need to get u one
What outfit is this?
@@lennonhavard6672 it's a mod
I have so many games, but I find myself so often replaying this game. I just wander the streets of Paris and marvel. Few games even come close to the feeling this game gives me.
its such a great game
Man! Your movement is amazing! You have mastered your surroundings and the mechanics in this one. I used to be a huge AC-fan, after finishing Ezio's epical series on PS3, then played black flag on PS4 and that was that. A decade later, I decided to see what I've missed. After watching the reviews from all the releases since then, it seemed like I didn't miss much after all. Until I watched this video!! Just picked UNITY up(despite the red flags) and i'm and ready for a run. Brilliant!
Thank you!!
Same here! I didnt play anymore After Epic Ezio Trilogy. Tried black flag and origins because they were actually boring and uninstalled them After 20 Min.. till ive found all this hate on unity was Just for bags and the game overall Is literally Assassin's Creed but improved
AC Unity mods going strong as ever. The ACU Fixes really changed the game!
Its amazing how good the game feels
i wish i could get these mods on console ahhhhh. love the game but those mods look unreal
What mods are being used here aside from the costume?
@@eschelar i want to know aswell
We need more white & blue assassin outfits from here on out! I didn’t know just how much I needed some more until I seen Basim rock that Altair inspired Assassin apprentice get-up in the Mirage cinematic trailer.
Mirage outfits are goated already
Great video. Love the use of social stealth and parkour. Playing like that really gives me the "assassin" feeling which is what i like about Assassin's Creed, getting in and out quickly assassinating your targets and then making an escape. Also the reshade you used looks fantastic, in addition to having no hud on screen makes a really immersive experience!
Glad you enjoyed!
I agree, I've been playing with the HUD off in every AC since black flag. It really does make it so much more immersive. Minimaps really are the death of immersion imo.
its actually insane how they created the PERFECT AC game and then thought it was a failure because of how buggy it was at launch. Its still kinda buggy for sure but the parkour system, co-op multiplayer, story, etc are actually peak and its sad that this is the only time we got to see such a masterpiece. Unity will always be my favorite AC game.
Noice glad you're having fun with the Outfit i made ya.
I love it
Hey @kinimodDX your outfit looks really cool and I wanted to know how one would be able to get it
@@pinkpanther6443 Ahhhhmm Altair Stealth paid 20$ to get the file from Lordofthe9 so that he could use my retexture. so you probably wont get it unless you're fine with paying for it XD
Hey how would I be able to get a custom acu outfit and how much
@@Lattuce_sama959 well it depends on what you mean by custom.
When I ranked Unity on my list it is mid, but if I ranked it over on how much I enjoyed all of em, Acu is my number 1 somehow, with black flag and ac1 slightly below. Its just that unity is a very unique game, and I mean the gameplay itself even tho it's frustrating asf, I still overcomed it. The Story even enhanced it for me because I surprisingly liked Arno. Man I wish Arno would still be in an ac game somewhere.
Its a special game fr
Like any ranking its subjective of course, but I really like seeing the differences between how people rate the installments of this franchise, it shows there is something for everyone in AC.
An Arno sequel game in France with the same gameplay as the first would sell like gangbusters. It would be the first AC I buy in like 7 years, last one I bought was syndicate.
@@brandanbutler8789 not anymore in my opinion. Ubisoft has abandoned this portion of the fanbase. Mirage was an insult to everyone who loved the originals. And to everyone who heard them say they were going to try to recreate unity's parkour verbatim. They've lost all credibility imo. They even broke black flag. I've owned it for 10 years and all of a sudden it doesn't work. But I got a copy off the high seas that's unupdated and it runs beautifully...Ubisoft hates us for not embracing their stupid RPGs.
It’s truly a shame how we were at a peak in ac. Now I don’t even feel like an assassin anymore. I wish we would have kept to this style. Maybe one day we will go back!
Maybe
Unity>Mirage
I'm an assassin's creed fan, although I tend to burn out hard and fast on games. Something about Unity made me so excited to pick up and play, there was just something magical I can't describe about this game that was so fun.
1:12 Holy shit I've played this game for a long time and this is the first I've seen Arno do this parkour move.
its thanks to mods :)
I played AC 1,3, Black flag, Unity, and syndicate when I was in high school and at that time I fell in love with AC. Fast-forward, now I'm doing postgrad and finally get my hands on AC Valhalla. Few hours in and I instantly realized that this is not the AC that I used to know. Little-to-no parkour feel, dull city environment, no crowds, lazy story, nothing like what AC 3-4-5-6 gave to me. I appreciate the variety in the combat mechanism but it is more hack-and-slash now compared to the older titles. I've done around 40hrs in AC Valhalla and basically 90% of the mission can be done by no stealth at all if you got the right weapons and skills. No "incentive" to do stealth.
Thank you for this video. It's great knowing that someone appreciates older AC titles as well :)
play Mirage its better
The opening description in the caption is amazing. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Unity and Syndicate have a special place in my heart. Loved those two.
Love unity
Me too, those were the best AC games imo. A lot of people consider them to be the worst.
The masterpieces of Assassins creed, there won't be anything like it forever.
I didn't end up playing this until 8 years after it's release, but really enjoyed it. I assume that most of the bugs that plagued the original release were fixed by the time I purchased it from the Xbox store, but I realllly enjoyed playing this one. Despite the new AC games having more in-depth features in most aspects, Unity genuinely felt like you were part of the world it was set in, and part of the story. I would be very interested to see a remastered/updated version that allows developers to go back and finish all of the elements that they had hoped to be perfect upon its release.
Or not, pisspot!
a remaster would be great
That tinny hollow noise of the city is so nostalgic.
Years later, and I still play it.
I don't think they'll ever be another like it...
I doubt it too
maybe someone someday will make a game like this that embodies what true Assassins creed was.
I can't say the same thing over and over, but I'll say it anyway: THIS was the future for Assassin's Creed. Hope this engine will return... Polished.
It really was
the engine is the same it was just updated for RPG. They just don't use all the animations they made previously. Mirage is also on the same engine.
@@vaazon I'm not a videogames developer but I'm sure the most understood what I meant.
Its Always a pleasure seeing people bringing this game to its full potential and praising it for what it does best and why there is nothing like it, its in my top 3 Ac's as well, really enjoyable video can i ask how did you manage to hide the weapon wheel from the hud ?
Thanks bro. And it’s done with a toggle hud mod 🫡
It was how immersed unity really got you. The lighting, the sound, the atmosphere, and the general aesthetic of everything. It was the perfect mix of AC2, 3 & 4.
Its so immersive
This game just feels alive to me I don't think of the people as NPC I think of them as having some role in France during the French revolution. This time period is insane to begin with and fits assassins creed perfectly which i haven't felt since assassins creed 3 and black flag. I'll aways come back for the stealth game play in " it belongs in a museum and the smooth parkour
Its an amazing feat what they did
The intro was my favorite part just when you scaling up the buildings in your normal attire. It looked absolutely breathtaking.. Shame AC seems to have taken a step back even mirages animations seem tame.
I know we should give mirage a chance, but deep inside i know its mechanics and visuals are never going to be as good as Unity.
never
Ow we know it's not 😅, even with mods ac unity will still win all the parkour and sleath details dayuum
Sick wit it my guy 💯🔥👍🏽… dope ass assassin run, really wish they’d of put more of these assassination animations in mirage and even though they improved the parkour they should’ve made the parkour more like this… it’d of really made it damn near perfect if they had… but ur definitely a badass assassin all the way around sooo… 😳💯🔥👍🏽😎
thanks dude!
I still remember this game was the blue print for that Notre Dame fire those years ago.
"the graphics are better in Odyssey"
This statement is true, but Unity having a superior art direction is also true. Art direction determines whether a game will age well or not.
NFS Hot Pursuit 2010, AC Unity, RDR2 are examples of strong art direction.
i do agree art direction is king
You really nailed with the 2010 Hot Pursuit, lol. The art style that it has is so timeless and competitively better than the newer NFS
Bro got that killing rizz to all he's enemies
Factss
The main thing this game has going for it is its fluidity of movement, even the hidden blade kills dont stop your run unlike the others how the character always jumps and pauses breaking the momentum.
The reason you can't move on from unity number one is the setting French revolution and the way they were able to create Paris and the boroughs is astronomical it's great fantastic. Number two the weaponry this iteration of assassin's Creed brought in guns obelisks in the stuff that you normally didn't see in the older versions number three I absolutely adore the unity engine it just looks fantastic it just does there's something about standing on the top of a building looking down into the crowd and watching them all about themselves it's it's phenomenal this is my absolute favorite AC game ever with Black flag coming very close second
the combat is honestly the best part, it's really smooth, fairly difficult, and very lethal, beating one or two enemies is easy enough but the more you have to fight the easier it is to make a slipup and get impaled, it's perfect for the game.
I like your fast paced stealth, but slower stealth is also cool. Slower stealth permits the viewer to better absorb the atmosphere.
So true
I agree its a nice change
I think they're both good approaches to capturing gameplay in AC, that both have their time an place. I get why slow paced stealth might be your preference tho. I personally don't have one, I appreciate both types of vids.
the 60 FPS cloth physics fix is really doing big things for me here
and i freakin' love your playthrough with this!

What I loved about this game was the weapon variety and the way you could customize Arno
Unity is the best Assassin’s Creed to me and nothing will change that

Yeah I needed a break from Odyssey, which I'm 100 percenting, and since I own all AC games I said what the hell let's see what all the fuss has been about lately (I didn't enjoy it my first time I got a lot of glitches) it's really an amazing game I'm certainly 100 percenting it and getting the platinum

Been saying this for ages now! Unity is way ahead of it's time! Ive never been so impressed and immersed in any of the AC entries. Unitybis top 1
unity is great
Love the stealth. Love the parkour. Love the outfit. Love the perfect execution.
But WTF is that high contrast filter?!
😭😭
The movement system in Unity was a pilot project of Ubisoft, which turned out to be very expensive and too much effort (capture motion of the chique parkour movements etc.). That is also the reason why the game was very buggy at the beginning.
From that point on, ubisoft chose to go the easy and cheap way (parkour with just the basic movements without the fancy stuff).
As long as they are gonna get away with this, they will keep going the easy way.
this comes up on my home page like onve every two weeks now... and ive watcvhed it every time
A real one
You have shown that you can play as a true stealth master on other titles... moving on is not an option. Keep doing what you do

You’ve inspired me to try and create my own runs on assassination missions. I had my first perfect run last night and may even try again to upload to RUclips 🤣 it wont be anywhere near your level of production but nonetheless I am inspired. Cheers to you and more ACU content
That is awesome! You can do it
It’s definitely my favorite from the last few years. It has everything an assassins creed game needs. If not for the state it released in it would have set a standard for AC games I think.
The thing I really miss in this game is to be able to show off and fight using the hidden blade .. And some those 2 and 3 kills combos like AC3 had..
great videos man hopefully someone important enough at ubi catches on to this being what they need for AC. I’d say Unity gave the player the most control when it came to parkour and stealth and even fighting.
Lets hope
This game is hated by fans but has more replaybility than most of the fan loved games.
It's like Dishonored games.
I'm glad people started to realize that this game is a hidden gem covered in dust.
Love this game
When you compare the model quality of AC Rogue and ACU they are similar. Why models look much better is because the dev team of ACU that worked on lighting did an amazing job.
One of my faves still play every now and then on the co-op

It's hard because despite all the jankiness and bugs, it still has a soul, something Ubisoft doesn't know how to replicate anymore

I am kurt cobain. I've returned from the dead to play ac unity and i can admit it's pretty good. Come as you are.
I can’t bring myself to finish this game I’m sad that the campaign is so short definitely didn’t deserve the hate it got
It definitely deserves the hate it got though, the game was a huge hole in the water
True it didn't deserve it, it had a lot of very good stuff compared to other games, even to other ac ones, depth mecanics,... . Its price became very low, and for a game like this one, with the few bugs it ends with, it's a bit dumb to spite on it that hard
I remember watching the gameplay trailer in this exact building and getting so hyped. Still one of my favorite ACs
the way he bounced off the tree at the very ends 10/10
mirage shows how lazy the ubisoft are. after unity, somehow the art of being an assassin is gone. they tried to go back to their root but fails miserably
i love mirage

Unity was the peak of Assassin's creed. They put alot of extra work into it then it went downhill from there.
