Adam Savage's One Day Build: Fake Beard Wiring!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- Adam needs a fake beard for an upcoming cosplay, and picked up this beautiful yak hair beard from an Etsy shop. But instead of using spirit gum or traditional makeup adhesive to attach the beard to his face, he makes a rigid wiring harness to sew and hold on to the beard (and mustache) and make it easily removable and much more comfortable to wear. Can you guess what cosplay is going to make use of this beard?

You should build the LEGO NASA Space Shuttle Discovery.
Real beard: home grown
So the crimpers are probably for blasting caps or detcord.
Only issue is that the mustache stays with the jaw instead of the upper lip.
I figured it out it's a cosplay of R.J. McCready from The Thing.
Hey!! I just gotta mention, Adam; earlier this month I ran across an article somewhere that took the tweet you had made with your fake beard on in your shop and wrote an article essentially claiming that you had really let yourself go since leaving mythbusters, or something like that. I immediately emailed the publisher detailing how they were wrong and that you publish videos very regularly and are an avid cosplayer, not Tom Hanks from castaway. I received no response whatsoever - but the next day or so the site had magically updated, and had proper information and even talked about your RUclips channel and cosplaying hobby. I was pleased to actually see that they fixed it!
Sorry for the long comment!
I hope this wasn't a big publisher
@@Amplefii not super well known but big enough the journalist should have known better
Wut!? LOL
And why let himself go? Adam becomes hipster is better.
It's such a joy still being able to watch Adam make stuff after growing up watching him on Mythbusters. You are a treasure, my guy. Much love
Growing older, maybe. Growing up? I hope not. To quote Ackbar. "IT'S A TRAP!!!"
Totally. I feel like I'm just hanging out with a childhood friend.
I'm in the same boat as you my friend
Watching him making stuff up now, growing up watching him making stuff up AND blowing them up
The hoodie up will help with the hair. Looks great, Adam. This was a fun ODB. And once again, Gunther, great editing!
Bummer! The shop is no longer selling! I love that beard and need one like that for Fiddler on the Roof!! Thank you for this brilliant idea, I'll be making a ton of beards for this musical and you just saved me if I can find other beards like this!! Thanks!
Guessed it: Alternate History Anakin!
I have no idea what clues he is talking about from other vids, but my first thought was an Alan Moore cosplay. That would be pretty cool I think.
Hey Adam
Should do a build on re-doing your stool sits coverings
I guess its going to be MacReady from the Thing movie
is the cosplay An Aquaman cosplay of the newer one? thats what the beard and Hoodie remind me of.
I knew the hint Adam gave at the end but no lie 2 seconds before he says “ and no not the Unabomber” I thought “ ha looks like the unabomber” 😂😂😭
Hagrid is my guess :P But I think maybe Adam is too small to play Hagrid... ZZ Top maybe?
20:51 my daily routine
ultimate
One day beard
liked for the maracas
i have a strong belief that its hagrid from Harry potter
How does everything in your shop not covered in overspray?
Oh look, it's pandemic lockdown Jamie.
The proprietor of that Etsy shop is about to have an interesting day.
Nothing wrong with that, with all that is going wrong in the world we can use the positivity of 1 maker boosting another
@@ShugoAWay Nothing wrong with it at all.
I just think it's funny to imagine this person logging into her account and wondering how she suddenly got a million views and a few thousand orders :-).
@@AmiGanguli presumably, they know who they sold to, and I can image tested/Adam giving a heads up before this was posted
I checked the shop and it was almost sold out of everything.
I just noticed that Adam left a review on May 27.
The person who rang the doorbell, when Adam answered it in his beard, must have thought they had the wrong address. Or maybe not, since Adam has probably answered the door before as a Wookie, astronaut, dinosaur, Totoro, etc. His package carrier must never know who (or what) will come to the door!
Hahaha! I thought the same thing. It got me wondering if his relationship with his mailman is something like what Casey Neistat had with Marvin, but with more surprises (if that's possible).
A. Savage, Werewolf; Scene One:
Ext. Workshop. Day.
A package dude rings doorbell.
Door opens. Within, A Savage Werewolf.
Package dude (not even skipping a beat or even batting an eyelash): "Package fer ya, Adam. Sign here."
A Savage Werewolf (signs for package): "Grr. Aargh."
Package dude; "You're welcome. Have a nice day."
Depending on the carrier you might get the same guy or different every time, but most of the time different. If you have a commercial address, you will likely get the same guy as parcel carriers tend to lump commercial addresses into one route that is designated to a driver.
Now you dont have to use your hands when imitating Jamie!
It's not the right configuration... I was just thinking that I'd like to see Adam get the correct fake 'stache, and a good prosthetic cover for his own beard, to cosplay Jamie.
Adam is going to cosplay Jamie? That would be a riot!
Still needs strings to imitate pensive Jamie or startled Jamie.
@@kilroy987 I came into this video expecting to see an animated beard with wiring. Now all I can imagine is a Jamie stache that moves like a cartoon.
@@tedcoop4392 They both went full latex head to cosplay as each other on an episode of Mythbusters.
You know when Adam starts vigorously hand drumming on something, he's especially excited for what is to come!
My dad does that before he beats my ass
'Hot damn! It's the Soggy Bottom Boys!'
I figured you were going to sell the beards to women so they could go to a stoning.
WHO THREW THAT?
@@19TheChaosWarrior79 SORRY I thought we'd *started.*
*dwarf women take note*
I do love a good Monty Python reference 😂
Good to see Will back on the channel.
lol underrated comment
Ha!
Might I suggest a hinge along the jaw? The lower part of a beard naturally moves differently from the mustache
Maybe connect the mustache to the beard with a couple of springs.
@@willmfrank i feel you have to be a little careful on how the springs are implemented. Dont want any pinching going on.
Thanx Adam!! i need to make a beard for a Hook costume. Perfect timing again,Sir!!
26:06 Wow a Jamie appearance, so glad to see them back together again but very odd that he never was onscreen with each other.
I’m going to guess that the cosplay is going to be macready from the thing.
Am I the only one who thought he was going to put LED lighting in a beard?! :}}
with the light beard on you looked like a member of ZZ top
It looks great until you speak, I think a less rigid connection between the beard and mustache would be a big improvement.
and the lower lip has issues as well. A dab of spirit glue would help
"My wife looks hilarious in this".. Pictures, or it didn't happen
Adam Savage's One Day Build: Flamethrower, dynamite and J&B whiskey
And coming Saturday, dollhouse pillow embroidery!
*that's a most interesting trifecta you've got there*
He's working on his MacReady costume
I agree this and the hat. It has to be
And the glasses at the end
It is an excellent guess.
@@tested I hope you plan to "frost up" the look so that it looks like MacReady just came in from the cold.
Should come with a flame thrower and a bundle of dynamite
Watching Mythbusters and these builds has kept me going in this past week since my mom died
Sorry for your loss
I'm so sorry!
It will ease, the pain are sorrow will over time imellow and change into something more positive. Remember the good times with your mum,
I am sorry for your loss.
My condolences for your loss.
Very sorry for your loss. I'm glad you could find an outlet to give you a little break from your grief.
When I read "wiring" in the title I thought this was going to somehow involve electrical wiring. For example like making a cyberpunk beard with neon lights in it, or LEDs....
Cybeard
Wrong channel, this isn't Big Clive.
Long beard with prehensile hair
SAME!!
Or an animatronic dancing beard.
"Welcome to Le' Dungeon" lol they look like the beards they put on Cary Elwes in Robinhood men in tights. thats awesome.
I kinda had a feeling that was what you were making the beard for, Right Now hand sewing is the only thing I really know how to do. Also Facial Hair Fun Fact: The Pointy Sideburns that you would so often see in Star Trek shows are crepe wool that was carefully color matched with the actor's original hair color and attached with adhesive
Another fun Trek fact: the regular actors grew their own sideburns and had them trimmed into the pointy shape. Mr. Shatner recalled that on one shoot he suddenly realized that he'd forgotten to let his sideburns grow, so the makeup artist cut a mustache in half and spirit-gummed one half to each side.
@@willmfrank Yeah, but a lot of times the actors couldn't do so in time for shooting so the crepe wool/cut up false mustache method was regularly used on the show.
@@DelcoRanz93 Yeah...The guest stars or supporting players might have just come off a spot on "Combat!" or "The Rat Patrol," where they played second world war military personnel or something; they might have the regulation haircut, but the sideburns would be totally absent.
Words you have never heard together before "intergraded mustache holder"
Adam's cosplay looks just like Joaquin Phoenix in 'I'm Still Here'.
Beard wiring. How many thought.."Why is he putting LED's in a beard"?
I can honestly say I've done that, but I just attached the LEDs directly to CR2032's with electrical tape, I didn't wire them.
Am I crazy or would Adam look amazing with a beard like these that actually matches his hair?
“Tedious things are tedious, that’s their thing” 😆 an aphorism for the ages
Adam: *Bird Whistle*
Me: MY GOD! IT'S AFTER MIDNIGHT, PLEASE DON'T LET MY DOGS HEAR THAT!
My first thought for that black beard was Hagrid :P
Same!
Also my thought
For the love of God read another book
What a nifty set-up! Curious if/how you will crust the beard with snow.
I'm thinkin' the aerosol stuff that you spray on artificial Christmas trees.
The problem with watching Adam build anything is that even if he has never done it before he makes it look like he's done it a million times. Keep it up everyone. Sometimes its just having the confidence to try it.
that's the irony. what people see is a guy mastering something on his first try when in reality he's had incredible decades of practice at, if not that very task, then related ones
but it's because no matter how comfortable he is with it, he's still EXCITED like a newcomer, and still scratches his head like an amateur while coming at the problems.
There is this weird skill that Adam has that I'm always impressed by. We see it in a loooot of his videos and yet I never quite understand how he does that. I guess it's probably a skill acquired thanks to his quite extensive career... Yes I'm talking about forgiving himself x')
I spent countless hours manipulating wire into ear clips for lavaliere mics for musical theater.
"this is my walkin around mustache"
Being able to see how these things are constructed is so cool.
I'm guessing your next cosplay will be Hugh Glass ? And your wife (or Leonardo DiCaprio) in the bear costume ?
Please, have you tried building a beard on stockings (panty hose)? I just spoke to a Director of a Community Theater and she said they successfully did that for Fiddler a few years ago. I can't find anything about it online, though!
Note to self, look for man with black beard at MegaCon!
This is great!!! I needed to know how to make a real enough looking beard for my UPSanta Claus suit, Mark IV. Lol!
Just found out you’re gonna be at Megacon this year in Orlando! I’m so excited! I’m gonna have to get a picture with you for my dad. We used to watch mythbusters together when I was growing up, so he’d flip!
Either Adam was mistaken about the price he paid for the beard or the maker/seller found out the video dropped. Lol. Prices have gone up!
From what I see. These beards are very reasonably priced. If they are true to the description, and actually hand tied yak, they are a steal. Hundreds of hours go into hand tying a wig. If human hair, they would be priced over a grand.
@@enixon8268 oh I don’t doubt they are a great price. I’m just wondering if Adam is misremembering or if game drove the prices up.
Gotta be Macready based on all your " the thing " talk lately . But I will say "fat Thor" is a real option with a red robe and pj's
Oh! I know! We’re all going to dress up like Alan Moore and surprise/freak him out at the next con he’s at? :-p
and give Moore yet another conspiracy theory to harp on
To be fair, for 120$ i'm expecting the wiring to come with it
A better version of the beards sold in Monty Pythons Life of Brian.
4:26 Adam if you did this with your customer they'd be very displeased with you.
Adam the Viking Savage.
So amazing seeing someone just enjoy life and enjoy creating
I was definitely thinking Unabomber
As someone who wore a natural beard of similar length for several years and has since trimmed it down to a more "I actually care how I look" length, I can now say that the ability to simply remove your beard is the way to go.
I didn’t let mine get quite that long. I did appreciate much more having a shorter beard, once I had trimmed most of it off.
Great looking beards. The place that makes those should start offering a wire quick-change version. I'd pay a little more to not have to do the work. I know Adam made it to fit his face, but I'm sure you could create a generic version that would be close enough for most faces...then because it's wire you could adjust it to your own contours.
Does this contraption allow one to move their jaw? When speaking with the beard on Adam sounded like the worlds worst ventriloquist.
""I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. It'll fight if it has to, but it's vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won.""
that first beard reminds me Jamie's mustache :D
Adam,
The beards make your crooked nose more apparent, did you break it or is it naturally like that?
The major problem with wiring a beard like that the mustache doesn't move when you talk.
Oh my God he's cosplaying the unabomber.
Macready beard is black/ dark brown with lighter brown in moustache and up top though...
I know it's not black beard. but great god damn, I wanna see Adam do a Black Beard cosplay now. I feel like he'd be the worst damn pirate I've ever seen.
So, you're doing "Hagrid"? Or, ...then again, could it be for a certain "mad monk" who has an unhealthy obession with a certain "Mecha-Glove", and attempting to conjure "Oghdru Jihad"? But, from "The Thing"?!? Nah, wrong breard colour. His beard was a medium, "ash" brown. This beard is too dark for that character.
"Tedious things are tedious. That's their thing" - A.Savage 2021
The more you know
Is Adam going as Rasputin?
God darn it!! I need that beard for my Yellowbeard costume for Halloween! I’m already overwhelmed with sewing the entire outfit. I’m able & on the way to growing a full beard but my beard doesn’t grow as full as the character. The Etsy beard is shut down. Guess I’m going to have to hunt me a freakin yak! All out or die! See you in Heaven & Hell or the void.
MacReady from The Thing
Me: Its the Unibomber!
Adam: Its not the unibomber...😄
Me: I never win anything...☹
Where else but on "Adam Savage's One Day Build" would you ever hear the expression "Integrated Mustache Holder?"
Couldn't you add a little bend, similar to those you made just beneath the ear hooks, in the middle of the moustache loop, roughly where that little dimple thingy, that goes from your nose to your upper lip, is located, to help keep the moustache centered?
Or would that be dumb?
A bag of spools of thread? I see an ODB to organize that in some sort of portable case
I noticed that all of their listings have the beards on light skinned people or busts. Their listings only say "Swiss Lace" and when added to the Cart they do not give an option for the color of the lace. Do you have any darker skinned people there that you've tried this on and does the Lace part blend into darker skin ok or does it stand out. Obviously it works on you, with lighter skin. Seems like they should offer an option for a darker Lace for darker skinned people. Not that that's on you but curious if you have anyone there who has darker skin to see if there is a difference, or if the Lace just disappears. Thanks.
Adam you missed a huge opportunity..... you should have stood there in a skin suit and opened by saying "IT'S!..............." I know you get it.
Algorithm is messed up. Ive been subbed for years and TESTED dropped out of my recommended. Just now finding all these new videos
Its fred the thritp guy
Before i Had No Idea but Now i know exactly who it is, just thing when then blue Sweater made an appearance and you'll know ;3
thats weird. something you said right before your alexa went off, set mine off too. I muted it's mic input until after you yelled at yours... which reminds me, I still have to finish putting that thing on a push to talk solution.
Is it a cosplay for General Abbott from Sweet Tooth?........oh no, just watched to the end........you can always repurpose it then at a later date as Abbott.
That salsa music while he shook the spray paint cans! Adam making my day again and again. Much appreciated, my sir.
Adam should be Jamie for cosplay
I bet lots of trans and/or genderfluid folks would love to have something like this! Or drag kings-I’m sure that would make it a lot faster to get ready than using adhesives like spirit gum
Nice Adam I'm going to try for Halloween, im thinking your going as McCready from The Thing ?
How much... less trivial we'll say.. do you think this would be for someone without a mold of their own specific head? haha
Simon Whistler cosplay. Nice. Will be interesting to see how you do the bald cap.
Character affectionately known as "fat Thor" cosplay . Solid choice and not that difficult get a red robe and pajama pants and your set
To quote one Boober Fraggle, "Tedium and drudgery are good for the soul." When I first heard that I took it as a joke, but the older I get the more I realize its deep truths.
