Adam Savage's One Day Builds: OneWheel Electric Skateboard Mods!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 май 2021
- Adam loves riding his OneWheel XR electric skateboard around the neighborhood, and makes modifications to his board to give it some attachable payload capacity as well as GoPro mounts to film his rides. The satchel he sews allows him to repurpose car airbag he rescued from a car in his MythBuster days, and the camera mounts will give us a sense of how smoothly the board glides up San Francisco's hills. And the modifications aren't completely without a custom charging stand to build as well!

5:25 The safest and easiest place to store your swords is hanging overhead, with as much potential energy stored in them as possible.
SCIENCE!!!
Especially in an earthquake-prone area! That makes me wonder: Has Adam discussed earthquake preparedness? He seems like the kind of person that would be have some interesting and thorough ideas about it.
. this has to happen
This is exactly the glorious randomness that I come here to find. Who else has the frickin' Sword of Damocles hanging from his shop celing?
Adam: "That's my Five Dollar Sword!"
Or, as I so infamously named it, "Damocles on a Budget."
After all these years of Tested, I’m still grateful that Adam shows his mistakes, talks about them, and how he overcomes them. Someone as talented as he is, sharing his humanity, encourages me, someone who is far less talented than him.
I concur.. 🙃
100000000000000000% agree!
Not every1 is human, just like people with down syndrome exist in every race, so do narcissistic sociopaths plus psychopaths what you see here is an actual human being & they poses the ability to comprehend & fathom shit the majority can't
Just like left-handed people, humans are treated differently
Anyways, yep he reminds me of the mf who volunteer at the snow cap soup kitchen, they are humans & I know because never have I heard or hear "I feel sorry for" that doesn't come out of humans mouth because humans don't say shit like that if they see something that isn't right they move their bodies not their mouths
Humans as a society we need to hunt each & every one of the humans who are not usual like the rest{majority} of the garage in this world & give them their own place where they can
do what humans do best
& That is not say "why haven't you killed yourself already"

That stand is GORGEOUS!!!!
It makes me thing of "THE NEVER ENDING STORY". Lol.
I was going to send this to you, Wren. Glad you saw it. Hope the collar bone is healing up.

No it isn’t! Why do you think there are so many dislikes!!

Ok, that zoom in when Adam was about to use the nail gun freeked me out, I thought I was about to see an accedent.

What kind of accident

I know for real! Especially in another episode he made a point not to put your finger behind where the nail is going! And on my video right before he used the nailer it went to an ad. Freaked me out even more. Haha

As someone who sews and finds it easy, to see you working through your process when I immediately had a good idea of how to do it was actually really refreshing.
You're kind of a hero to me; doing things that I only wish that I could take part in. Yet this reminded me that this individual whom I look up to is still very human and is still learning. It shows the we all have areas that we really excell in compared to others and that we shouldn't be too critical towards ourselves when we observe others doing well in their own specialities.
So thank you Adam for this.
Also, for anyone wanting to try making a bag like this, use ripstop nylon. It's the same stuff used in parachutes and nearly as durable as airbag cloth but nowhere near as difficult to use.
It's funny, I've seen this video before but I'd forgotten he used a car airbag and thought "ooh, parachute fabric, nice!". Glad to know that's an easier usage!
That workshop is truly one of the most awesome places we have ever been... Happy trails Adam!!!
He’s a legend!

The shape and design of your stand would look amazing cnc cut out of same thickness aluminium

The takeaway I get from watching your channel is that everything you do is open source. I love watching your brain work. I have adjusted my daily schedule to allow an hour of "Tinker Time" to build or organize what needs most.
Appreciate this channel and your willingness to let us in, and work alongside you.

One wheel is getting torn up now by Right to Repair and other issues. Adam has one of the good older ones. I'd like to see Adam get a new one and do a side by side comparison.
11:35 I love how excited he got about D-rings
Absolutely interesting, as always. I always feel like an apprentice closely watching Adam and learning new stuff every time. I've been watching him come up with amazing things since the mythbusters times, and, as a sort of practical guy myself, I love seeing Adam develop solutions and ideas.
#righttorepair
Thanks FM for making it nearly impossible to mod and fix your own board 👍
I could totally see OneWheel making their own bag+Velcro in a kit that people could buy inspired by Adam’s design.
I was thinking that too, so practical
Or Adam just releases the pattern for free like he did the EDC, especially since your already need to own one of these things to truly need one
Craft and ride already has been selling something similar.
Then sending Adam a cease and desist for stealing "their" design. LOL
@@TOBORtheMighty You're not lying, sir. They'd also charge $150 for it and void your warranty if you actually used the thing.
I love Adam's OneWheel videos. It's such an amazing device. There's truly nothing else like it. You can see Adam light up just thinking about riding.
Which is why it's such a shame that Future Motion (makers of the OneWheel) is so anti-consumer.
Going out of their way to block 3rd party repairs and send cease & desists to companies making 3rd party accessories.
Great device, crummy company. #righttorepair
100% agreed
My electric longboard to me is significantly better. To each their own
For your next bag prototype, try piping the seams to allow for some structure without making it too rigid. The piping casing material may also assist in finishing the seams for you.
I love that when you do some heavy concentrating and checking out the finer details the tongue tells the viewer "Hey I'm working here, LOL. The stand is awesome and you never fail to impress
At 44:20 I thought the zoom in was gonna be Adam getting a staple to the finger after telling us to never get our fingers in the path of one. Glad it wasn't!
Me too!
There is a British show called Red Dwarf and they did a brilliant episode in season 3 (it is the first episode of that season) called Backwards that put on film what you just described of that book. You can get, at least, a flavour of the epi on RUclips. It's amazing and hilarious.
I am so happy that someone else knows about Red Dwarf!!

Love the stand! Just got my OneWheel Pint this week. The thing already looks like its been through a war but sooo much fun. Thanks for the inspiration on a stand design, definitely going to design my own now.
A pair of medical scissors like my mother who was a nurse would work or I have a pair made for cutting Kevlar while splicing fiber optic cable that would probably cut the airbag material better and cleaner than standard scissors
Just thought of something I need on my onewheel while I was watching you... a retractable tire cover that slides into the fender and comes out when you carry it or set it in the stand... I think that would be the best accessory I can think of for my XR. Like the idea of a bag for a rain jacket/windbreaker.
I winced when I heard that *crunch* when Adam went through the zipper. Also, the time-lapse music at 19:58 always makes me think of like an Oceans 11 type heist movie
Love it Adam. I'm goofy on a board as well! Ive Been an East coast fan since the early days of mythbusters (I was just born in 93 lol) but you have been an idol for so long. I'll always watch whatever involves you. Thank you for everything!!
Adam, why don’t you use one of those 360° cameras that substracts out the rod it’s riding on?
Oooooo that’s a great idea! Thxs! Lol
And maybe a gimbal

My memory of both San Francisco and San Diego in summer are, nice warm sunny days with cool off shore breeze, and then damp cold fog that a Scotsman would enjoy at night.
I love watching adam sew even more now I have learnt more about sewing. 🥰
Such as :
To avoid breaking needles on zip, use nylon teeth or you can remove teeth from where you will sew with plyers.
When sewing bags it is much easier to finish of sewing a bag with the flat side down on the machine.
I am missing a demerit badge for "Drilling into your workbench".
That's not a demerit. If you've never drilled/cut into your workbench, you're not using it enough!
There also needs to be one for "Setting fire to the workshop". Of course, no one would *ever* qualify for it...
I've recently earned my 'Cutting your sawhorse in half' badge.
Just circ sawed into the workbench this evening. Gotta do what you gotta do lol.
@@MrGrimsmith I would
I would add some binding with grosgrain tape to the seam allowances (the inside of the bag) that adds some rigidity and helps it keep its shape
For some reason, watching that stand get cut and assembled was the most satisfying thing ever.
Im so happy to hear Adam Savage rides and loves the OneWheel. So rad!
Dude. You cruising around was so soothing.
I could watch that a lot longer.
I've been riding OW since early 2018, I've got all sorts of content 👊
Andrew Stroh (slydogstroh) has a bunch of videos that are great. He hasn't done much lately, due to some injuries and disagreements with how Future Motion treats riders. But his videos are always fun and cool to just put on and watch.
I want all the videos of Adam riding!!! A series for sure!
Adam! Try the TheraBand FlexBar for your golfer or tennis elbow!! Suffered for years from both and being a carpenter- thought I just had to live with it. I tried all the wraps and straps and creams and ice therapies but found this and it worked great for me. It’s a slow process but it works. Haven’t had any struggles in years now.
@@WheelWithMe I'll check you out.
Hey Adam, Fantastic video as always! Have you looked into doing any further mods to your board that will advance the specs of it? I know FM doesn't "approve" of it but the CBXR battery, Hoosier or Flight Fins tires are fantastic and getting Float Plates are a game changer! I kept my XR stock for the first few months but regret not modding it early. Extra range, better traction, less wear & tear.
Watching you sow…I’m dying! My mother used to sow constantly and I remember her exclamation when she broke a needle. Lol. Thank you
The Fireman’s Turnout coat is an ideal riding jacket. Extremely robust, light in color with optical yellow AND reflective tape for daytime and nighttime visibility. Exactly what you need for city riding!
Everytime I see Adam approach his Sewing Machine I hear Jean Luc Picard saying, "Make it Sew, Mr. Savage, Make it Sew" I don't know why, I just do...
Was that your sword of Damocles? You're lucky it missed lol.

I recently got an electric skateboard seen these Onewheels riding around here and there. Too cool, so much fun. Great vid and great mods!
I always enjoy watching your videos and never ceases to amaze me how instructional you are at everything you do and how you’re so honestly open at even showing your mistakes. You know, being human. I love you for that and look forward to video after video that you do
How do you balance your love of the Onewheel with the very strong stance Future Motion has taken against right to repair and its suing small vendors offering modifications to their products?
Would have been nice if they had replied to your comment. Gotta get it asked directly, maybe through patreon
I’d love to hear an answer straight from him, but I suspect it would be more reasonable than many would be happy with.
Unless you live your life entirely around right to repair, there will always be compromises. And outside of things like iPhones where even 1st party hardware isn’t trusted digitally, you can usually get by even if a shop can’t offer it as a repair service. (Which some don’t think right to repair really includes necessarily).
And some things are just seen as not really needing manufacturers support so long as they aren’t actively preventing repairs. (Ie you don’t expect a silverware company to make modular fork tines so you can replace a tine when it breaks, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing whatever you want with the fork either)
Thank you for this, everything went wrong in my shop today… And this is the reset that I need before I go back
Hang in there!
The stand is just fenomenal, absurd, mindblowing awesome. Great video making several mods from various materials.
8:20 - Bless you! Your sneezes are epic!
Would love to see a cool paint job done for that awesome stand, maybe like its from Star Wars or Blade Runner! :)
The bear suit near the entrance looks really huggable!
Wow, SF and an OW, what a lovely combination. I don't expect to get to live in the former or become brave enough to try riding the latter, but it looks absolutely heavenly.
Oh , Adam Thx you for the tour !!
That gopro footage of the cave is how Adam's dog sees it.
Some of the cleanest stock grip tape on that board for the amount of riding you say you do.
Why would it be worn? He's not jumping on and off the thing I'm sure. You aren't doing kickflips and stuff wearing it out like a skateboard. He probably rides "like an old man" and it will look new for a long time.
OP said clean, not worn. Grip tape is notorious for holding dirt.
I thought the same. There’s another standard blue XR by the door you can see on his way out that I’m pretty sure is his daily
@@tristshapez
"Clean" is used in ways other than clean/dirty. It also means "fresh", or like new. So maybe he cleans it? Either way, what's the point of being like "I don't believe you ride it as much as you say"

More than likely a cease and desist from universal over copyright. I just don’t get why Adam wouldn’t just do a little video explaining why the best build to date was pulled down.
There may be an NDA attached to it being removed
How is it that your board still looks brand new even though it's two years old? Mine looks like it's been beaten to death and it's only 9 months old.
This build was awesome!! Taking a tour of your shop/cave/makerspace would have been like heaven. I love to tinker. But hard with no space to place down machines. So hand held power tools and some strange stands will have to do for now. :D I love watching your videos. They give out ides, and also are relaxing to watch.

I wasn't expecting the look of the bag to go from used diaper to NASA satchel when he inverted it. Looks fantastic.

I do agree, you need little structure to the bag.. maybe 3D print or resin some insert panels that can collapse to put inside the bag to hold a form.
