I was driving in my car last week here in Uvita and saw a guy on a bicycle , just as his wallet went flying out of his pocket. He had no clue it popped out, so I pulled over and scooped it up and set out to catch up with him. He was riding very fast so it took a bit to catch up with him, but when I finally caught him he was super happy when I gave him his wallet. 😁
My dad and I were visiting Samara last year. Went by an ATM and dad used his credit card to withdraw some colones. We left, drove about 20km down the coast, then he realized he forgot his card at the atm. Went back to the ATM (the one across from the turn toward Nosara) and ....it was gone. I was in the car watching, dad came walking out of the vestibule and one of the guys doing some painting (young guy, early 20s), came running over to dad, told him he had found his card and left it with the owners of the nearby Soda...guy runs over to the Soda and gets it, brings it to my dad..Dad tried to give him 20USD to say thanks and he wouldn't take it no matter how hard my dad tried to give it to him. It was my dad's first time to Costa Rica, I was bringing him down so he could experience just how different it was from Canada, where we are from. He was choked up about it and very touched. In Canada if that happened we'd be on the phone with VISA and cancelling fraudulent charges to the card. It's not always that good in CR, of course, but there IS more good than bad.
Hi Michael! Felicidades on getting your wallet back; what a great story, thanks! I think there's an extra layer of emotion when it comes to losing something in Costa Rica.
There's no feeling like realizing that you don't have you wallet anymore. Whether is was lost or stolen. Glad you got it back. I think the people in Costa Rica still have integrity and self respect. Which makes a huge difference in a situation like you found yourself in.
Im glad you shared your positive story. I wish people shared every positive story they have about CR to drown out all the negative ones that dominate the internet.
You lead a stoic life, no doubt, Michael. You are a good example of how we need to just take everything in and worry about what we can control. Is that the pure vida lifestyle?
BEST compliment, ever. I do love the Stoic's, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and their philosophy :) The Pura Vida life is similar in a couple ways....one in which you pointed out but I think a good 5 steps down from Stoicism ;) Both will get you far living in Costa Rica. Nice observation and thanx for sharing.
Bueno Michael. I’d probably put that anxiety of being pissed off at these things to blaming yourself. Your not a narcissist by any means, and I don’t think something like this is you suspecting some bad element ripping you off. As you said, getting all of those cards replaced is a major hassle anywhere, here….🙄… totalmente loco. Possibly a pero 🐕 picked it up, liked the smell of it, then dropped it there. Anything’s possible. 😏 Good people those local gas guys are no different, there are not a bunch of criminal minds living here inside every Tico.
I didn't mention this but since you brought it up..... I know those shorts do NOT have deep front pockets and I have had similar incidences (knife dropping out a couple times), so really, when it comes down to it, it was my fault as I know better than to wear those shorts. Yes, anythings is possible.... but man, was it great to get it back.
@ Yup, us guys have bought the shorts, or even long pants and you kinda don’t check how deep the pockets are, they fit and they look ok. I’ve bought a few shorts here just like that, I’m a front pocket wallet guy, ever since I lost my wallet in a car while hitchhiking 5O years ago. The driver was kind enough to mail it back to me from my drivers licence address, with that instruction. Bonus!
My husband lost his dive mask at the beach. He put a sign on the fence, and the person who found it returned it to him. I lost my car key at PriceSmart, and whoever found it turned it in.
Michael Allen this is an amazing story. There are good people out there, but as you know some bad people too. Glad to see you got to interact with the good side of that spectrum. I am curious though, how did the gas station know how to contact you?
Hey Michael , I had come home from food shopping and could not find my keys anywhere !!! Thougt I would lose my mind... looked everywhere , everywhere , augh ! Finally where was it? In te freezer.
@@WayneThorsen haha....that's me.. but before I check the freezer.. I go back to my front door... I park my keys in the front door a lot.. just to find them the next morning😱🤣
I have returned wallets and ID. I found a wallet years ago I was 18 or maybe younger. I found it in San Jose, at a mall. The ID that caught my attention was a student ID for the TEC. So I contacted a cousin that went to school there (in Cartago) and he also worked for the university. Well he was able to give me the contact info (illegally) for the student. I emailed him, said I found his wallet and I wanted to return it, that I couldn’t say how I found his info. He didn’t ask and was happy to get his documents back. Maybe he had already been ripped off by then but at least he didn’t have to go get his cédula and student ID issued again.
Do you do any real Stretching as part of your workout week? You might benefit from stretching. You sound strong if weight training isnt the issue, but need to stretch the muscles and tendons maybe ❤
Did you know that he's a highly skilled athlete and personal trainer? 🙂 There are many reasons for inflammation and pain, but that's a good thought, we can keep reminding him 🙂
I have to stretch. My back needs it constantly.. as well as my hamstrings.... shoulders,,,, so yeah, all part of it. But thanx, many people need to know the importance of stretching. muchas gracias

it such a great feeling to get it back... I told one of the gas station attendents,,, "te amo" lol
Sorry to hear that. It's the reason I carry my wallet in my front pocket all the time.
I do as well.... but these particular shorts had a 'short' front pocket... muchas gracias
Yep they’re for the most part pretty good here.

yes, agreed, terrible feeling. Yeah, I think so... especially this being a farming town..😉
I don’t know if there are chiropractors in CR, but I swear by them for pinched nerve and alignment issues. Good luck

Yes, they're here. ;)
Yes, you can even find transplanted chiropractors from the USA. Google reviews are your friend.

@robbieg1able well, you asked... coincidentally the guy who ended up with the wallet, who worked at the gas station, I had hooked up with before. 🫣
You were lucky Mark and Belle did not find it ! Lol I know I will never let that go. Glad it worked out !
