  • The North Downs way is a long distance footpath through Surrey to the Kent Coast at Dover. It is 156 miles long, including a loop via Canterbury at the eastern end. The path runs along the chalk ridge of the North Downs and despite going through one of the most built up parts of Britain, it still takes in plenty of quiet open and beautiful countryside. The path was opened in 1978, making 2005 the 27th year of it's existence. Almost all of the walk is within easy access of London and has good transport links.
    Between Farnham and Gomshall you will enjoy highlights such as St Martha's Church on the Hill, Newlands Corner and walking alongside the River Wey

    This popped up in my feed. I grew up in Gomshall and it is a stunningly beautiful area to walk. The concrete tanks above Shere are WW2 vintage. Emergency Firefighting Water Tanks. The area was used to store munitions in the run-up to D-Day

    Yay, the doggos are back - and travelling light! As Julie, my wife says, the great thing about dogs is their default setting is ‘happy’! Not sure what the tanks in the wood were, but there are some remains in some woods near me and their use was associated with the dyemaking industry. Long since disused and barely visible unless you know where to look, they are known colloquially as ‘the chemical tanks’. Tanning is another industry that might require something of the sort.

    Hi CJ - Lovely video. I am hoping to do some of this trail sometimes soon. How did you find the possibilities for wild tent camping (although I know you car camped).

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 года назад

      Lots of options for wild camping along the first half...way more and better stealth camping options on this so far than the South Downs Way which is a lot more open. The forest helps to provide lots of wild camp options.
