    This video made me a little sad. Years ago I arrived at my mother-in-law's house 5 minutes too late. She was cleaning out her house and had just thrown a gorgeous pair of torchiere lamps with pink glass shades in the dumpster. She had no sentimental attachment and couldn't see why anyone would want them. The shades were broken and I almost cried. I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think about it. I'm glad that you are saving this one. That shade is beautiful!

    Too bad about that lamp metal mess. It's a nice lamp. I have one of those old lamps too. Mine wasn't made of the same metal, nor does it have stone pieces. Those old lamps kick out a great deal of light. Love the older side of life. Happy Pandemic! Stay safe Scott and Salem.🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙🍇👾🍀💜🦚👽😇💙

    My Mom has had a lamp similar to that one, but bigger, it's always been in my family's living room and she called it a funeral lamp. Moving to new house last year the globe got broken. I'm really hoping to find another one to fit

    That lamp is gorgeous. Put it together as well as you can then why not try making a mold then use regular resin to make a new part. I make jewelry and that's what I do when I need a part. Scott, you can do so much with the UV resin maybe put it together using the UV. you already have the black light. You can even use the sun to cure the UV resin. you may not even need to make a mold. The longer the UV resin sets in the sun the harder it will get. Use the powder coloring to color the resin. I would sell the bowels separately, the shipping cost would be too much to sell as a set. They're very beautiful.

    Let me think this problem through very carefully, no problem....I would keep all 3 bowls, carry them out to my kitchen and put them in the cupboard for use and enjoy the heck out of them....then if I found the 4th one in a thrift store at a drop dead cheap price, I would buy it....bring it home and add it to the other 3 and then sell them! hahahaha Have a lovely day Scott, and my dear old grandpa used to do something with pot metal in his barn...seems like he added metal and then whatever it was was hot! So many people make the mistake of mislabeling onyx as marble. If you didn’t own a torchiere lamp, then if you make it to the funeral parlor, there will probably be one displayed at the head and foot of the casket. Nice soft fleshy pink light bulbs included. Scott, it is much easier for the post office to break all four bowls sent at the same time in one box.

    I wonder if putting a tube inside the broken piece, to later accommodate the wiring etc, masking the cracks with duct tape, plugging up the bottom, and filling it with plaster or cement would prop it up? A creative paint camouflage could be applied afterward. Just thinking of the " barbells" my Dad used to make with ice cream pails full of concrete joined with rebar. Haha. Speaking as a professional welder, I have to agree that a sound metal repair is impossible.

    Scott, I have faith that you'll be able to find a replacement part for that lamp and give it a chance to shine again. (Get it? ha ha!) Can you put the bowls up for sale individually but offer a discount if someone wants to buy 2 or 3 of them?

    Considering this video was made a year ago, I assume you came to some sort of solution for your lamp. If not, if it is something that you would like to keep, I would consider finding a metal artist and see if they can cast you a new part or see if they have any suggestions. Just a thought.

    have you turned in your vampire card? a video during the day!!! P.S. is there a seller option to post all 3 items together; make note that there is one missing and it's size; offer to sell 1, to sell 2, or to sell the set of three; and list the prices for each combo and the postage cost for each combo. can you list your preference is to sell all three at once to one buyer, but that after 10 days, it will be opened to buyers who want to buy individual pieces. can you do that? is that ever done?

  • @Laura-vv6cf

    I'm no expert on lamp repair, but can you add a strong brass rod from the base to the next piece and just use the cracked pieces over the rod? Did that even make logical sense? My Mom's beautiful mahogany vanity had a broken back leg. My brother thought it was beyond repair. I took it and drilled through the leg and bottom of vanity, then reattached with wood glue and a dowel rod. It's not perfect, but saved the piece and it's very sturdy. I'm not even a carpenter...ha!

    • @oldcuriosityshop265
      @oldcuriosityshop265  4 года назад

      Yes I understand perfectly what you are suggesting. Actually, there is already a long metal rod that runs the entire length of the lamp screwing tight at the top and bottom. It's partially this tension and the weight of the outer decorative case and onyx at the top that encouraged the pot metal to fail. Even with the central rod, the pot metal still cracks and deteriorates just from age. And with the huge gaping crack and missing chunks.....I just wouldn't be satisfied with the end project. I'm confident that I'll be able to find a very suitable replacement piece for a couple of reasons. The number of torch lamp bases that have survived far outweighs the number of glass shades. As you can imaging; tip this lamp over and the shade is smashed. In this part of the country, I run into 2 or 3 of the lamp basis each time I visit a flea market and also often in thrift shops. They NEVER have their original glass shades and
      are usually priced between 10 and 20 dollars. So......it's just a matter of time. Congrats on saving your vanity! I remember my father teaching me to repair broken wooden legs in just that same fashion. Thanks for watching!!!!
