    I'm pretty sure most meteorites we have are from the asteroid belt which used to be a planet. Based on that...this could literally be pieces of earth millions of years from now on another planet with another species interested in pretty rocks from the sky. I have 15 so far and I absolutely love their energy.

      So I recently learned that the asteroid belt may not be a former planet but rather was created by Jupiter as it formed. Jupiter started way further out than it is now and as it grew, it moved closer to the sun and also it dragged other debris with it and created the asteroid belt. But that may be hypothesis so Now I have 2 theories on the asteroid belt. But I do know that the vast majority of meteorites on Earth are from the asteroid belt.

    • @MeteoricStoneofSouls
      @MeteoricStoneofSouls Год назад

      @@telesmacadan6721 I have 2 condrites. One is a slice of a piece of NWA-869. The other is a whole meteorite (NWA-Unclassified) with a "window" I had cut. Both are brown. I'd love to see a green meteorite. Magnet sticks to both. I have one small slice of a Kenyan palasite (the olivine is more brown than green). The rest of mine make up about 1 lb of Campo Del Cielo in about 12 pieces, the largest at just over 10oz. And then one piece(about 3oz) of Stikhote Russia fall.

      Hi, a bit late for this it seems, but the secret is to keep the aperture of the lens as small as possible. This way you keep the focus depth as high as possible. The drawback is that you get very dark images, which you must counterbalance by bringing A LOT of light. I now use 4 light sources at the same time and maximum brightness.

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  2 года назад

      Pallasites like Sericho would look like that even if you cut them open in space. Entry into our atmosphere (10secs) simply does not heat the rock - just the very very outside. Remember, that "space debris" has been floating around at just a few degrees from absolute zero for a few billion years. Have you subscribed?

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  3 года назад +2

      Regular (predictable) meteor showers are the size of dust, sand, or a grain of rice at the largest. They burn up completely in the atmosphere and do not result in any meteorites on the ground.
      80% of a meteor's mass is lost during entry. A basketball will be a baseball on the ground. A baseball will be a ping pong ball after ablation.

    1998 I am hiking a trail with my 6 yr old son, kid stops on the trail and picks up a rock. "Here Dad it's a meteorite!" No kidding, hand of God he said that! Skip to 2010, I'm working at Honda R&D in Ohio and I tell one of the materials techs that story. She asks if she can examine it in their scanning electron microscope, sure I say not thinking too much about it.. Couple days later she brings me pictures of my rock at 50000x magnification and a complete breakdown of elemental properties and says, "Yup it's a meteorite! Smart kid!" I can't begin to explain how amazing that felt. Closest looking one you show here was the one that came down in Russia a little while back, very dark inside work a brown burnt glass shell.

      Amazing story! Feel free to load quality pictures to either of these groups to engage with meteorite experts for their opinions.
      Submit pictures to: facebook.com/groups/isitameteorite or facebook.com/groups/meteorite.or.meteorwrong. The power of the Facebook Groups I recommend is that there are a bunch of knowledgeable geologists and meteorite people in there.

      I really do not want to bust your bubble but the odds of you having found a UK meteorite are almost zero. If you look at my RUclips channel I have a video about UK meteorites. Since 1624, only four meteorites have been found in the uk. I would be willing to bet my truck that you are not the fifth person in 400 years to find one. There have been five or six people have approached me in the last 5 weeks claiming to be that fifth person they were all wrong too.
