I've heard that something that helps with silicone curing is to mix it, then transfer the mixed product into a different cup before pouring. This helps prevent unmixed product from getting into the mold, which makes sure it cures.
The bubbles aren't from the resin, it's from pouring. Really need to vacuum chamber the piece as soon as you pour it if you want to get rid of bubbles the easy way
12:19 is there a problem with the video... the audio is fine, but the video is cutting. It happened a couple times during the video
It was like that for me in a lot of different montages throughout the video. Just thought he inserted pics instead of actual footage but now im not so sure, it could be a bug
What is it just me or when he was pulling a vacuum out of the resin it was just frozen and then when he was standing the shoe down it was just like glitchy
It was glitchy for me too
Voice over: this part is so satisfying to watch!
Picture: *freezes*
yeah he needs to re watch his videos to make sure no corruptions during rendering
I found you channel like a month or so ago and haven't stopped watching everything! I love it and it's really inspired me to get back into my artwork so thankyou!
I love the videos Dan! I don’t think I have missed a single one. 🇨🇦
Yayy another art video!! Real highlight of the day😊
You make it look so easy, I love watching your art be made.
Hey Dan when you think you've fully mixed the silicone quite often you haven't got to the corners and bottom it's recommended that after mixing you transfer it to another cup to make sure none of it ends up uncured
Worth noting there are different types of silicone eg platinum cure, tin cure or silicone putty and if adding chunks of previously cured silicone make sure it's of the same type.
I've found its always more economical to build a custom mould box for the extra time it takes build the walls half to three quarters of an inch from outer edges of the original piece it'll surprise you how much silicone it'll save $$$$$
Been a while but I’m back and I always come back. Love it man !!
Every video you post is with a new printer, I miss the old Dan showing me his cool shit🥲I love these videos but I miss that part of your videos
After watching your videos for years I finally decided to try resin art for myself! So excited to see how my pieces turn out 😊
Can I ask why you didn't print it in non-colored transparent resin and just use that instead of making a mold? Either way, cool project. I enjoy these videos and your positivity. Kudos for including the fails. I always find them to be at least as educational as the successes
The final piece look amazing but the green shoes is just incredible !!
Ooh I love this background music in the intro Dan.
Such an awesome idea, this turned out amazing!! 👟😍
i dont do art at all, let alone be into it but something about your videos just are so good. always watfh them before bed
Hey Dan, some 3D printer resins will react with the silicone and cause it to not cure where there is direct contact, I've seen this happen with a lot of different creators projects (even when they do the cup transfer technique to avoid any unmixed silicone) A way to avoid this is to spray your printed piece with a primer or varnish before silicone molding :)
what if you printed it without the laces so when you molded it you could put real laces in there of what ever color or fabric u wanted
Bro the amount of work put into this is insane! I almost like the ice sculpture one more
Dude yes!! Please keep making vids like this!! You’re a goat Dan
Who else misses the Dan for a week videos?
this turned out so freaking good
You can get a sealant for 3d printed parts the craft man did a video on it because he was having the same issues
Hey Dan!, I was wondering after you taped the mold box...what's the single worst failure you've had with a project- maybe one that you didn't film or never talked about?
Sick vid Dan!
Every video you make you know I'll be there to watch it, even though you may not see me I'll still be here my G. Keep up the amazing work Dan.
Thank you for the amazing content Dan, WE LOVE YOU🖤
Seeing the fails is one of my favourite parts of your videos.
Hi, resin artist here.
So the reason you're having a difficult time is because you're using boat/table top coating epoxy resin to cast. Even though its a 1:3 ratio which will help a bit, its still pretty unstable, as the 2" layer rule applies to large surfaces. The layer should be much thinner for such a small surface area. But you're right, I think if you do 1" and let it entirely cure, you'll be ok! ♡
For those who are new to resin: Casting resin and epoxy coating resin are super different. Coating resin is never made to cast in a thick mold because of how fast it cures. After all, its intended to be poured thinly over a large area, and to avoid dust and hair, it cures fast (which makes a lot of heat). So when you try to put all that heat in a small cast, it will react with cracking, etc.
This is why casting resin takes longer to cure, because its made to help reduce heat, making a more controlled result.
If you are not a seasoned resin user, pay the extra money for casting resins unless you are making exclusively thin items (shaker charms, trays, trinket boxes etc)
This is great! Thanks for the detailed comment and tips!!
Awesome video as always and its interesting to see you create bigger projects. What do you use to protect the finished project? You mentioned you use something to protect from the sun etc... it was a spray I think.
You need to use a proper deep pour epoxy, like alumilite deep, and preferably a pressure pot while the casting is curing.
Yet another amazing creation from dan.
Keep it up Dan!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dan’s art content! Always gets me inspired to actually do some art myself
Every video you post is with a new printer, I miss the old Dan showing me his cool shit🥲I love these videos but I miss that part of your videos
Looks cool I like the ice one to
Im having trouble with my laces getting stuck to the silicone rubber, what do you suggest to do so they do not?
This is fire 🔥
The man loves his sprinkles
Have you tried to use a pressure pot for putting the cures resin in? When it cures
I absolutely love your work you definitely inspired me to do resin and I love it so much! You should do a beach piece, those are my favorite ones to do
Those are so dope
I'd love to put that shoe print under rubber in a 2 part mould and get that sole detail in !!
Been waiting patiently for the next video! 🤘🔥😁 Actually who am I kidding, bout time! 🤣
First!!! Heyy make more videos of buying everything you see ahead!! I liked it a lot!!
I know it's your thing to put sprinkles on your art pieces, but honestly wasn't digging the sprinkles on the shoe. It just looked kinda weird lol. But still looked pretty cool.
I'm just assuming, but when you clean the resin shoe with alcohol did you wash it with water and soap before you molded it with silicone? Silicone hates alcohol. Even the little residue left on resin.
Love you dan♥️
Your ideas are always so nice! But the execution could be a little better.
Instead of sanding and or putting uv resin over your projects, try using a vibration polishing machine.
It's like a tub full of special sand or stones (polishing medium), you simply put your parts in, turn it on, and the vibrations will polish every corner of the parts to a high shine and smooth out imperfections. Oh and you don't need to do it by hand :).
Hey Dan, just curious on why you just didn’t 3d print the shoe with clear resin rather than using silicone? Thanks!
So cool 😮
Dope as hell
You can't beat me, this killed me I love it
What’s the program you are designing in ?
This is my first vid and I liked and subed!
I've heard that you shouldn't be scraping the sides of your container that you mixed the silicon in because there could be unmixed stuff there. Just a thought
Dear Dan, I have a important question! After the 13 hours $150 dollar super realistic 3d print, did it ever crossed your mind it might be cheaper to buy a cheap pair of Nikes to submerge in silicone 😁?
Love your channel and all your projects. I need more Charlie in your videos!
So you printed a shoe in resin, made a mold using that shoe (losing some detail) so you could make another shoe out of resin? Interesting! :D
YO!!!! Get out my head this is what I was thinking!!!
You got curing inhibitation with your silicone. Many, many titanium based silicones got problems with printing resin, I've had the same. Use inhibit- x, which is super expensive or just use a tin based silicone, those won't be that troublesome.
Some UV resins have sulfer. Same reason you need to use clay without sulfer, you need to use resin without sulfer.
My guy, I MUST KNOW where to get that Elvis art!
Ugh dude can I meet you one day? 🙌🏽🔥 you’re hella cool and funny
Subscribed for sure 🥰
>sands shoe to try to save it last minute after botching it.
"As you can see, I 100% meant for this to look like ice. A well known trick."
Smooth.
RUclips doing Dan dirty, it makes me so frustrated haha damn algorithm. This deserves way more views.
Dan is such a good guy.
Every video you post is with a new printer, I miss the old Dan showing me his cool shit🥲I love these videos but I miss that part of your videos
You should make a resin $100 bill piece!
You shouldve used mirror pieces on the nike logo👍🏻
I feel like I would have used UV resent for the holes from the print and called it a day, considering it was that crazy detailed.
Can I make shoes from resin then wore it??
The green resin 3d printed shoe was way better then the clear joints.
id rock those
great job! but the sprinklers were unnecessary….
the amount of time and money wasted is insane, dedication is real
"Bro my jordans are real"
The jordans
Are you still moving?
If you havnt already check out Peter brown and nick zametti great resin workers and just as entertaining as yourself
anything sulfur based will inhibit silicone curing
Yesssssss
The 3d print was way cooler then those ugly paper weights
You did an amazing job. I learned something from watching Bobby Duke. He said to paint a thin layer of silicone over your piece let it cure the pour the mold. That way it will fill in all the nooks and crannies and you have a nice seal. It will also let you know if the silicone cured all the way.
Why not just use the 3D printed part? It looks AWESOME. The poured parts? Meh at best
How u can make itnin colour?
you are an exact replica of romeo lacoste good vid tho
Dope
Every video you make you know I'll be there to watch it, even though you may not see me I'll still be here my G. Keep up the amazing work Dan.
Couldn't you have just heat polished it to make it clear?
RUclips isn't sending me your videos:(
The sprinkles made it look worse
Hey hey hey
bruh *prints laces on*
I like how he doesn't REALLY know what shoe he is making
past malone
Is anyone else getting tired of the sprinkle theme?
cool video, but Sculptures are Sculpted, this is a casting.
nice t
Did you know that you can go to heaven for free? This one decision can change your eternity forever. Jesus died for both mine and your sins. All you have to to is confess that you’re a sinner and accept Jesus as your savior. 👍🏽
