  • The guiding vision of the Peace Corps Ghana Cashew Initiative is one in which Ghanaians have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and resources to fully realize the potential of the cashew tree. This includes being able to correctly nurse and graft seedlings, prune trees and maintain fields, build associations and link with organizations, dry and store nuts, establish Diverse Livelihood Projects, and pursue international markets. Ultimately, the desired outcomes are improved livelihoods for Ghanaians throughout the cashew value chain and the continued viability of the local environment, aiding to progress development in the twenty-first century.
In this video we see the processing side of the Cashew Initiative. In February of 2012, Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts learned how to check the quality of cashew nuts before they process them for consumption, how to extract juice from the cashew apple and how to properly store raw cashew nuts.
Stay tuned for more videos on the Cashew Initiative!
