    People ask me all the time for some more basic basketball tips than the more advanced stuff that I usually post on my youtube channel so this week I had to answer those calls and release a video regarding what truly are the most important things in this game which are basketball fundamentals.
    Many players know how to layup but never really took the time to break down what makes a layup soft, and why you should jump off of the correct foot, etc. So that's another reason I decided to make this tutorial. If you are struggling and don't know how to layup with left hand then I strongly suggest you take the principles taught in this video, apply them to your left hand, and then go to the gym and just get as many reps as you can with your left. That's what I did and I can still remember the very first time I made a left handed layup that felt natural.
    Watching these videos and soaking up all of my basketball tips is not enough. You need to actually apply these tips to your game to become better and make sure you are always practicing basketball fundamentals as those are going to take you the furthest in this game.
    This Video Covers The Following Topics:
    "basketball tips", "basketball tips on layups", "basketball tips for beginners", "basketball fundamentals", "basketball fundamentals layup", "how to layup in basketball", "how to layup", "how to layup with left hand", "how to layup in traffic", "layup", "layup drills", "layup moves", "layup tutorial", "basketball layup", "basketball layup moves", "basketball layup techniques", "basketball layup tutorial", "basketball layup tips" "baller boot camp" "Augie Johnston"
    ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
    You should now go over and watch this video...I actually picked it out special for you...Hint: floater ;)

      Baller Boot Camp Whenever I blow past a defender (who's taller than me), I try and do a reverse layup, but when I do that I have to do an underhand layup or else he'll block it. And when I do that, instead of hitting the backboard soft, it hits it hard as if I were intending to smash the ball on it. Please help!

      +Baller Boot Camp I want to ask something...let's just say I am dribling towards the basket. What is it allowed :
      1. I drible once, make one step, hold the ball with two arms, then make two steps and lay-up.
      2. I drible once, hold the ball with two arms and then make two steps and lay-up.
      Can I do both or that one step I make before holding the ball with both arms in case 1 counts as one step and I have only one left afterwards?....what I mean is...when do I start counting the two steps I am allowed to make?...do I count after my last drible (bounch of the ball to the floor) or after I hold the ball with both arms?

    • @kristad52
      @kristad52 7 лет назад +1

      +Xavier Pawa I know this comment wasn't meant for me but in practice they have us putting our hand behind our backs and doing our weak hand. Then walking into a layup, then eventually running into a layup still keeping your hand behind your back. Then start all over again but using both hands. Trust me I still am not great with my left hand but its so much better, and I have been using it in games and I feel confident about using my left hand when needed.

    Im a weird situation. I'm in an adult league and bball was never my sport, I was a quarterback all my life. I accel in shooting and defense. However for some reason I struggle with the layup. I always go for the top right corner but recently noticed that most layups made don't hit the right corner. Including your example here. It hits about the middle. Should I start hitting the middle? If ao it seems like it would be more accurate when using your example. (I know u said right corner but I'm going off of what u actually did)

    • @BallerBootCamp
      @BallerBootCamp  10 лет назад

      It's good to hit the right corner if the angle is correct too. You must also hit the board with the ball in the top of its way in the air so that it can produce a soft bounce back inside into the rim, Aaron.

    Another nice one Baller Boot Camp, if you have one that implements the dribble technique combined into the Layup drive in that would be cool. I'm currently working on a good Layup playlist for our Basketball Skillz community and yours here will fit it perfectly, and basically looking to curate that one if you have it or plan to work it in on your awesome channel.
    If so, it would surely be cool bro. Thanks for sharing your skills, many players worldwide shall benefit for sure!

    • @virtual_intel
      @virtual_intel 10 лет назад

      I replayed it and saw the dribble my bad, it was very quick though, maybe I missed it the first time I watched, anyhow if you put a slow mo in it I think folks will surely get the timing of the dribble and steps needed to get the foot positioning down properly. I like to freeze frame my moves it helps for sure! still awesome info and correct way to perform a basic fundament layup.

      No probs you're doing a great thing for the basketball community worldwide. I wish more ballers, and coaches took the time to do the same. In due time I guess :) we need more folks doing what's right for the youth today for sure, and also for us older folks who need to stay in good shape.

    Techniques for different skills:
    Dribbling- Technique 1-You want with dribble the ball with your hand above it.Also you should only use your fingertips. (push it down using fingertips)if you use your palm your dribble will be very slow. This will be helpful as you are not breaking rules. Technique 2- dribble with the ball low, eyes up at all times as well as to keep a good centre of gravity.Technique 3- Have your feet shoulder width apart. This will help you with balance.
    Shooting- Technique 1- You need to work on your follow through with your fingers. You need to flick your wrist and your fingers. Also keep a straight arm this will help with consistency because you know that the ball will go the same distance because your arm length aint changing. Technique 2- If you right handed, your right hand must be inline of the inside of your right leg.Technique 3- Have a ball dip , before you shoot put the ball down to about thigh level so when you come back up you have a lot of momentum to have a successful shot.
    Lay ups- Technique 1 - When you do a right handed lay up you need to lift of with your left foot. Vice versa. This is for balance and height to jump over defenders. Technique 2- Take only two steps when doing a layup, make sure you extend your arm so you do not miss and so no one can block defend the ball when you do a lay up shot. Technique 3 , cam at a diagonal angle so it is easy. You should only have a small amount of power when the ball hits the backboard if not the ball would just bounce of hard and not go in. Also you want to hit the top right or top left of the box.

    My problem is when I drive, I instinctively lead with my right foot, but it takes me three steps to get close enough to lay it in so I end up going, right (pick up), left, right and shooting with my right instead of left (pick up), right, left and shooting with my right.
    Guess it's just a case of more practice.

    Coach I'm right handed in basketball and a few months back I started practicing left hand layups, and for some reason I flick my wrist on my left handed layups putting extra spin on the ball. I miss more left than right hand layups, probably most likely since I'm a righty, but I was wondering if you thought it might also be because of the way I take those layups. Maybe this habit originated because I aimed for the middle of the square and not the left corner, so I had to flick for backspin so it wouldn't go too far? Idk but please, tell me if I should change the way I take my left hand layups. Thanks in advance.
