My Trane is 25 years old, still going strong. All original parts except every 5 years I changed out the capacitors, every 10 years changed out the contactor and cleaned the air handler every year. I paid $3,400 for this 2.5 viable speed hvac unit. 👍 to Trane.
Great job Steven, they heat up bad in those wires trying to start and run . I just put a Trane back online Friday with a blown run cap. Tried to video it, but the homeowner was right over my shoulder. Take care, Brett
My folks had a new Trane system installed on their home back in 1989. New eelectric Airhandiler and the XE-1000 heat pump. It replaced a GE system from 1975. The Trane is still there today my folks no longer own the home! Yeah you can stop a trane just as easy as anything else! I personally thought these units were junk but I still like the GE versions best their cabinets weren't as flimsy and didn't rattle like the later junk boxes did!! Lol lol great video Steven!
Great job Steven! The fuse panel looked old! We used to have a lot of rewireable fuses here, trouble was people would put the wrong size wire in them! Mostly is breakers now.
I used to work for a Trane dealer. I had to quit so I could see my kids grow up. I ran almost all warranty calls on 10 year parts and labor plans, crazy!
it had a piston (no txv) so i set the superheat .old mismatched systems sometimes things are not perfect .i set them the best i can with what i have to work with.. thanks for watching tyler
i am thinking loose wire connecton will cause a hot wire .lol can't stop a trane was a good title name .i am pretty good at getting the old stuff running again thanks for watching rob
Getting ready to hopefully. Got 5 up last year, 1 a/c and 4 plumbing, then got hurt and didn't work for 10 months. Getting back at it now and trying to get started again with some videos. Take care, Brett
My 1.5-ton TRANE 41 years old and still cranking as good as new. Only a few recharges and up the wire gauge from the capacitor and 1 capacitor replacement.
you should put up some videos .that would be cool .i get that all the time homeowners watching me i pull my camara out anyway .thanks for watching brett
Hey, your subcooling was 28 degrees. An indication that excess refrigerant is being stored in condensor. TXV is prime suspect. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not trying to be supertech. Love all yours, fritz and isrealhvac's vids.
I have this same unit. I Purchased My Dads house when he retired. He had it put in new like a Billion years ago. Its worked awesome since the day they put it in. First start up this year I noticed it took forever to cool the house down (It never really did) Unit started to make a weird warbling noise so i shut it off .I had the company that installed it years ago come back in to check it out. Of course it wasn't doing it when they came by and that particular day it was 68 degs out. They just said "It seems to be working" and left.. Cut to a few days ago and I turned the unit on again to knock the heat down a bit and it started making noise again. Sounded like the bearing in the condenser fan so I took it off and checked it. It has bushings instead of bearings and they were dry. It has lube points so oiled them. After I turned the unit back on I noticed it sucks air in through the top of the unit from the fan and blows it out the sides of the unit. The Fan is unfortunately running in reverse. It is only a 3 wire motor non reversible. The wiring is correct as I took pics of everything before I took it out. Any idea what causing it to run in reverse? Bad Start capacitor? I assume that is what is causing the unit to not cool the house down.
Hi,steve, great videos. Let me ask you about something, my trane xe1000 fan motor purple wire fried,it's all melted, up to the actual motor,do you have any idea what it can be,is there anything i can do to fix it,maybe replace that whole wire or will the motor be bad and will damage the new one if replaced, i will appreciate your help, thanks
I still have an XE900 running after 30 years! I wanted to install a 5-2-1 quick start to help it along. When I removed the cover, I found it has 3 capacitors, so I am trying to figure out which if any are the start up one. Another video posted stated they were all running capacitors, so anybody know if it can be done?
Yes you can stop a trane.....my house is 9 years old and now they are saying that it needs a compressor. Which the want $1300 to fix. I am trying to fine out if it is worth it. Since I have things gone wrong in the past. Looking at Goodman what do you think?
I have a 1986 York gas furnace (33yrs old) and a 2001 Luxaire AC condenser (18yrs old). Both still working but I know the time will come soon. I'm tighter than 3 coats of paint.
Have the same heat pump which is 17 years old and never had any issues with it at all! Replacing it in the Spring with an XL18i just because of Efficientcy reasons
Mike's Random Channel--Trane bought the GE plant in Tyler, TX and the HVAC line in 1984 (I think). Between 1995 and 2013 I personally witnessed a lot of cheapening.
Anthony Greenberg there are a lot of good brands get a Acoil that will fit on your furnace .i would stay away from york .because of the micro channel condensers,,, goodman ,ruud, icp products are all good unit and will not break the bank
steven lavimoniere Thanks for the input Steven. I have a fairly new Goodman furnace, about 2 years old and was thinking of pairing it up with a 16 Seer Goodman condenser.
+ducklandwikeno goodman is a division of daikin imho ac are like cars you either get a really awesome system last you forever or that crappy one that never stops having problems with our experience trane is what sucked for us we have 1 ford expedition no problems then we later got an f250 biggest pos ever got a duramax instead our grandparents have an 11 year old armstrong air its energy star rated for 2006 but compared to todays efficiency it sucks power good thing both ac and furnace not 1 problem i think its a 3 ton 13 seer and an 80,000 btu 80% furnace kicks our new tranes ass at reliablity
I was gonna say the same thing. :) Man, we think alike. Just don't put that stuff near my air conditioner, cos then the R-410A / R-22 would get everywhere.
It's 90 percent the Install and Quality of an Install lil more than the Brand 63 yrs old here been doing since I was 17 all were good in the day.I still favor Trane lil over the rest but it's all about Market Share so they are All built Cheaper but it's all about the way they are Installed .Goodman and ICP most Parts are Reasonable Priced less than say Trane.
You can't stop a Trane? Really? Check to see whether the fan and blower motors have provision for oiling, i.e., oil cups. If not the motors WILL fail prematurely because the bearings will fail from lack of oil. Recently I had to pay almost $400 to have a condenser fan motor replaced because a bearing failed. The bearing would not have failed if there had been provision to oil the bearings. There is no excuse for making motors so that the bearings cannot be re-oiled without taking the motor apart.
Are you actually saying that bearing, including "permanently lubricated ones", will never fail if they are not lubricated? My experience indicates that unlubricated bearings WILL fail. I had a window fan that received heavy use. Once I noticed that it was slowing down, so I shut it off whereupon the blades stopped turning very quickly. The motor was stiff. I disassembled it, oiled the bearings, and it worked perfectly. By periodically dissembling and oiling the motor, I got 25 years of life out of it after which I sold it when I moved. Surely that is sufficient proof that failure to lubricate bearings WILL result in failure which can be prevented by periodic lubrication.

I see this a lot in commercial units. The connections get lose and get hot and blow fuse and breakers. Another good video.
My man Steven got the old Trane up and going like a pro!!!!! Great job there my friend!!!!!

Anytime Steve. Did you watch part 2 of me cleaning that 2 ton Bryant unit?
a 20 years old Trane and still running with a good G,E capacitor, unlike Goodman with Chinese capacitors and motors
That Guy I am filing a class action lawsuit against you, Sir.
Do those capacitors always blow up when they go bad ? I THINK my all run cap might be bad but no bulging.

Steve the indoor coil is old that is why superheat and subcooling it is off right?
miss matched equipment is never good
thanks ray
thank you apple
thanks ralph,
Hi Steven, I need to add AC to my furnace. What brand would you suggest? Thanks Anthony
Anthony Greenberg there are a lot of good brands get a Acoil that will fit on your furnace .i would stay away from york .because of the micro channel condensers,,, goodman ,ruud, icp products are all good unit and will not break the bank

How about a ladybug caught in the contactor.Stopped it dead.
+Donald Robbins it could happen .
Considering the multiple problems its almost as if it were sabotaged in the lab by a instructed telling the students to figure it out
1995bisquick she is getting old but still working
i used the title name to get a responce i get it worked lol
It's the picture sharing app from apple.
You can start it either ... LOL
Udo VISINTINI good point
Can or cannot ?
A mechanical malfunction will stop any air conditioner.
Dynamite stops most things.
I was gonna say the same thing. :) Man, we think alike. Just don't put that stuff near my air conditioner, cos then the R-410A / R-22 would get everywhere.
Evidently you can, because my Trane isn't working.
GHIT ER DUNN
my train stopped, 6 years for the indoor coil. a new crap coil $2000. I had a expensive unit XL14c $5500. NEVER AGAIN BUY A TRAIN.

Stay away from Lennox!
