@@DrJoshGuitar Please please please! I'm having the same surgery done in a few weeks! I play guitar, I do pushups and pull-ups and dips and bodyweight ring rows. Are you doing better? Can you lift again? How bad is it?! Details!
@@griffindemers6988 I ended up having a labral tear which was not detected on MRI. That is different than the bicep tenodesis that Docmansound had. It was was a very beneficial surgery for me.
Thanks for this, man. I also am recovering from surgery following a shoulder fracture and torn rotator cuff. It’s been 3 weeks and I picked up a guitar for the first time today. Like you I seem to be limited to one position at the top of the neck, mostly with individual string picking. I also will use the time for ear training and listening. I see your post was from 2020 so I hope and assume you’re back to full functionality and have restored and advanced all your chops. I can’t wait to get back to normal
Geeze man! I imagine this injury occurred from lifting? I don't lift heavy anymore, as a matter of fact, took a long break after several injuries myself. . excepted reality, im not a young pup anymore, and my mind exceeded my body's capability to heal. .. it's a hard thing to except (you're getting old lol) but it's time to relax and enjoy your life bud.. love all your music, hope you heal up soon!! Vinny
Appreciate you sharing your experience. I am about to undertake a similar operation and was wondering about recovery and when I could get back to playing some guitar. So really helpful insights. Cheers
I'm facing total shoulder replacement soon, and really don't want to lose the callouses on my left hand fingers. I plan on working on my right hand fingering and maybe using a capo to play chords. Thanks for the video.
How are you doing now? I am getting ready to have the tenodesis surgery on my fretting arm like you and my doc is saying no playing for 6 weeks. Looks like you were playing at least a little within a couple of weeks. Thanks for any insight you can offer.
I would die if I couldn’t play guitar for 6 weeks lol. I’m not sure why you’re doctor told you that. Perhaps your surgery is different than mine, but you might want to ask about it. I started playing a little in the first week but it took a couple of months until I could play normally without being careful.
@@DrJoshGuitar my surgery is next week and I am grateful for your posts and experience. Getting myself mentally prepared, cleared the decks for no gigs for 8 weeks. Fingers crossed this will be enough time.
Get well soon! Thanks for all the wonderful songs! -Jim 😊
Thank you very much!

Yeah I think I was only limited for about a month or so. It’s like a distant memory now…

The first week is the worst, but hang in there!
