I remember 20 years ago my brother and I were driving over this bridge into Brooklyn. The bridge scared the hell out of me because all you see is the Hudson running into the Atlantic ocean

That is a truly amazing bridge. Saw the towers from the tarmac at Newark Airport.

When I commuted from Queens to Staten Island in the mid-1970's the one-way toll for this bridge was 75 cents compared to 50 cents for all the other NYC bridges. Also one of my colleagues said the bridge's nickname was the "Guinea Gangplank" because of the large influx of Italians from Brooklyn due to the cheaper real estate prices in Staten Island (aka NY's "forgotten borough").

I'm from Michigan. I remember when this bridge opened. It burst my bubble because if memory serves me right, it displaced our " Mighty Mac" bridge in several categories.as a kid, it was like someone took my candy away. If any iron workers are still around who worked on this bridge, they will know of the " Mighty Mac" bridge. They both look very similar.

The only time you’re legally allowed to do that is when the bridge is open for pedestrians during the NYC marathon.

    這是海路,進入紐約,新澤西州港的唯一途徑,每日有二百艘 大型船舶通過,有幸,1970就隨船嚐試過了

But not across as why would you build a new (1964) bridge that you can’t walk across?
