    I’ve run the NYC Marathon numerous times which starts on the Verrazano bridge, and it moves like this when your running on it. The scariest thing is as your running the roadway is either higher or lower than you think it should be as your footfalls and really throws you off stride.

    It is creepy & scary, but the bridge was designed to do this, other wise it would fail.

      Hard lesson learned from the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge (a.k.a. "Galloping Gertie"). Newer suspension bridges that do not use a truss deck are now aerodynamic to minimize the wind effects that brought "Gertie" down.

    Many many years ago, there used to be a big needle near the center of the span. If that needle ever hit one side or the other of the gauge, they closed the bridge for this exact reason

    Bridges are supposed to do this in the wind 💨 otherwise it would cave in to the water below. Same reason why the elevated subway tracks shake when a train rolls through

      If it's moving that much, vehicles are kept off for the reason why it's moving - the wind. If the wind can move that road deck, imagine what it could do to taller vehicles, or even crossovers.

    Actually bridges are designed to do that to prevent it from collapsing

      Except the Tacoma narrows bridge

    • @drdoomspire3038
      @drdoomspire3038 Год назад

      @@EndIessProductions The 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge was an exception to this rule. Suspension bridges are quite flexible by design, hence the oscillations present in the video, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge was flexible and as a result had similar oscillations like the ones seen in this video, however they were somewhat amplified considering the fact that “Galloping Gertie” used 8ft deep plate girders which ultimately led to its demise on November 7th 1940. As a result no bridges use plate girders like the ones on “Galloping Gertie” because of what happened on that day. The collapse of the 1940 bridge had a different kind of oscillation compared to how it normally would oscillate, at some point the bridge switched to a torsional movement which caused the roadway to break up as the swaying of the bridge increased with each swing which caused cables to snap and the centre span fell into Puget Sound.

      The wind is flexing the bridge it’s supposed to do that

    • @Tuberuser187
      @Tuberuser187 3 года назад +2

      The wind is flexing the bridge and the parts designed to move over each other for thermal expansion (large bridges can expand and contract several feet over a day/night cycle), interleaved metal joints and giant roller bearings are making all the noise.
