It's a shame that Robert Moses deliberately excluded train tracks from the bridge. Still, it's quite an engineering feat.

Opened 21 Nov. 1964. As a kid I always took it as the best route between NJ & my grandparents house in Long Island.

The Verrazzano Narrows Bridge began construction on August 13, 1959 and opened in 1964. Now we need a bridge or tunnel from Manhattan to St. George, Staten Island.

Cross harbor tunnels tend to be very very expensive, even if it is just transit use.

@@TheRailLeaguer True. It would probably be better to build a tunnel from Manhattan to Staten Island as a Subway train tunnel to link the New York City Subway with the Staten Island Railway. It would be the first time Staten Island would have access to the Subway and it would benefit Staten Island and grow their economy. They could also consider extending the Subway from Staten Island to New Jersey along the new Goethals Bridge or add a lower level to the bridge for express traffic. It might be very expensive but it would definitely benefit Staten Island and might not be done for a long time.

This bridge has one major issue: If it collapses, the harbor entrance would be blocked.

  • @mattyian1208

Now we need a bridge from Long Island to Westchester or Connecticut and New England because Long Island has way too much traffic here and we have to drive through New York City to get to Westchester or Connecticut and New England. We also need it so that the trucks delivering important things can get from Long Island to New England faster and help improve the economy. If the politicians don't build it then I will build it. That's why I was born.
