Yacht Series released on a Tuesday and Thursday (unless something goes horribly wrong)
---
Hey everyone.
Welcome back to the yacht series. We had a pretty epic day out heading to Hvar. Smooth sailing and epic views. Unfortunately the day ended with a guest complaint.
I highly doubt I gave enough context to the whole story but I just wanted you to understand that these days do happen.
Thank you for watching legends. Every single one of you reading this have made my year.
Much Love!
Dad always told me, don't piss off the people that make/serve your food. Just saying...
your dad's a smart man
@Katie Rae - No.
listen... that works on restaurant waiters, not on qualified servants. if a person has it in them to actually soil the food, because someone done something that they do not like, than that person has no place being in such a high standard location. and has no place being around me as a friend either. they are disgusting people.
also, you should keep this in mind as well : don't piss off people that can afford to spend 800 k dollars for a 2 week vacation. it might end up very, very badly for you and anyone around you.
🤘🏾
@@Sthemane fuck off
I really like the way you respond to the complains of the guests and how you show us that the mood on board as a crewmember is not always perfect. It's amazing to see you manage to do you job as a deckhand and make this amazing honest content at the same time! I really enjoy watching your content! Keep it up!!
09:18 for the complaint.
Thanks, getting tired of these click bait headlines that take forever to get to.
@@carpediem6431 i know righy, what a pinecone
I spent a bunch of years living in submarines. Much of my time was spent cleaning; the captain still wasn't happy. Oh well; 50 years later it's no longer a problem.
Robert Taylor Share some stories with us!
Likewise, on submarines myself. Forever at your cleaning stations getting ready for skippers rounds. LOL.
You're a very smart well mannered young man, that will do very well with your time here on this wild ride.
Love the videos dude. Hospitality isn't a job, it's a way of life and an art! Big love 👊😎
I am a yacht detailer for 20 years now and I totally get that when people say it's dirty when they are absolutely clean but there are those people in the world for sure.
Right your a fucking yacht dealer... liar?! Probably a clerk or a woman's undie model....dude
"I WENT ON A BOAT AND I WAS EXPOSED TO OUTSIDE AND IT GOT WAVY AND EVERYTHING WAS SALTY AND BUGS WHERE EVERYWHERE. - 2/10

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than entertain that complaint. Good job Jared, clean that boat!
where can I see that?
Haha!! Believe it or not man. Most boat owners will not understand that the entire boat gets covered in salt while cruising
jared watney I’m assuming most of them have never owned or operated a boat. Where I work we have a yacht sale next to us where we get credit card captains crashing and not knowing how to move their 3 million dollar yacht around
@@thomasfisher8145 do not knock the credit card captains they have very good entertainment value in a marina/harbour not if they hit your boat
as for salt they think it what you put on your food not from the sea
DV7Dave Ahhh the super rich....= bored=complainers:(
Great piece here .... a terrific reminder that it will never be all unicorns and rainbows. 👍👍 crewing is hard work!
Oh gosh. Anyone that owns a boat, in my case only a 23-1/2 foot small cuddy cabin model, knows that their boat can be incredibly clean in the evening and by morning all parts of the exterior covered in bugs stuck to everything. Especially anywhere with humidity as at dew point in the cool eve the bugs land, stick, by morning the dew dries and caked on, stuck on bugs everywhere! On active boating days I spend at least two hours cleaning bugs alone. I’m sure you have a small crew responsible for a heck of a lot more square footage than me. I imagine a very hard work day crewing as you do.
YES! Flippin annoying.
In your case you aren’t paying over 200k a week, because that’s how much these guests are paying and they 100% have the right to complain about it.
lamakicker69 : Nah, they complain just to try and prove that they are “better” than you. They were probably pissed off because a bigger boat turned up. Believe me. I have dealt with people who own yachts who would consider the one shown in these videos to be a tender. They don’t need to prove anything.
Molt De Renou once again these people are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars A WEEK for a vacation. When you pay that kind of money you have every right to expect things to be nearly perfect. To just assume these people are being snobby to prove “they are better” just shows that YOU are the asshole, not them.
lamakicker69: May I ask if you work in the nautical industry ?
Keep the great videos coming! I know it can be like any other job but at the same time you are incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing opportunity and I love living it out vicariously through you! Cheers from Texas!
Good to know I’m not the only one in a thankless industry. I make sure to make my appreciation known for good service and hospitality
Awesome. I know this is actual work, but seems like a dream job for someone with the youth and energy to get it done.
Your videos are great and really, props to you. I would never be able to work like that with the feeling i'm "below" someone and staying away from friends/family. I really hope you earn decent/OK salary for all that insanely hard work.
I totally agree with you about it never being perfect enough. That seems to be the case after a few days with certain guests onboard. There is always more to do but there comes a point where enough is enough
Most important in learning jet drive boats is when you don't have throttle on there is NO steering!
100%! Huge lesson to those who are unaware

Worked on yachts. Can really relate to this. Great honest review!
I worked the yacht life as crew for years. I miss the industry. Loads of fun.
I highly recommend people to get into it. Whole new world.
Reel Fishermen ya but how. Like I’m from the Midwest I can tell you all about corn n shit but nothing about sailing or being a crew member. Do I need some schooling or program that’ll cost a whole lot or can I just finess my way onto one?
moderngod1 ya you need to be certified.
Marine meds. Or stcw 95. Plus your first aid. Ocean survival. Survival craft. Fire fighting.
That’s just the basic for like a deckhand. Depends on what position you want.
I was personal assistant on 1. Deckhand on 3.
moderngod1 a lot of it is word of mouth tho.
Reel Fishermen Yup and also ass to mouth works too
My experience with a grumpy customer was in 1985. A retired QANTAS pilot was always a pig when wanting to withdraw money from his cheque (check) account. He would not join the tellers' queue but phoned beforehand to have him and his wife taken into my office. He insisted on being called "Captain". One day I was under the pump and when he was leaving, I saluted him. The dumb #$%^er thought it respectful and saluted back. The staff saw it and it was laughed about for days.
awesome video as always, gives me the drive to keep filming, its not easy haha, Croatia is stunning
I worked as a safari guide / driver in Africa for many years so I know exactly what you are talking about. No matter what they pay , cheap trip or luxury safari some people (not all) will find something to bitch about. I think that the more expensive and comfortable a trip is the more trivial whines you will get. I took many rough basic camping trips where the conditions became apalling with rain , duststorms , stuck in mud mechanical breakdowns etc. and they loved the experience. So for every one of those punters I once again ( very humbly) say thank you.
Hey Jared, thank you so much for taking your time to share these videos. I live in St. Maarten and I'm going to start my STCW course this month. Your insight has really helped to realistically visualise myself in this career field, and I want to send my thanks for your transparency, and giving us insight into the work you do.. Funny coincidence because you mentioned Sea Owl.. she's been docked here for a couple of weeks. You can never miss that green paint. Cheers and keep up the great work.

Hi Jared, Have you ever run aground? what it´s the draft of the yacht and when do you start to get worried about dept? Thanks, great video!
Guest complaints are part of the crew's life on board..some people are just hard to please...even our own boss sometimes 😆

Great Jared. You did a very professional job of giving some insigths on day to day life on a yacht.
Those days happen to the best of crews, but I have loved watching your editing just keep getting better and better with the music and transitions, really smashing it.
Mate your videos are great..telling it just how it is... And yes there will always be something that a guest or someone who is picky, most wealthy people especially the older ones are very demanding. Been there done that. Anyway you all look professional look forward to more videos

Jared, you all are awesome and keep up the good work. I can relate to the complaints you all receive. I deal with that stuff almost everyday.
Bro ur content is awesome keep up the great work👍
Sort of an off topic question here I suppose..
I've noticed that yacht crews tend to have a uniform (albeit quite a casual looking one) that they wear when they're just going around doing normal things. Is there a "fancy" one for special parties on the yacht or things like that?
And what do crew tend to prefer when it comes to uniforms/clothing? I imagine very dark clothes aren't great in direct sunlight as it absorbs more heat for example? So do crews prefer a white shirt and then a choice between shorts, skirts, long pants in whatever color matches the yacht? And I assume there's also clothing for colder weather? Jackets, rain jackets, hats etc?
And would the crew really prefer to just run around shirtless all day if it was up to them? Do you think they'd prefer it as casual as humanly possible? :)
You should make a video about what to do if the yacht starts sinking or if you have to evacuate in general and things like lifeboats
Watch the titanic then.
Your videos are fantastic and very educational, thanks
First time we've run the tender this summer. Right lets just jump in it and try and start it as we drift
Haha no not quite. I had already started it when launching the tender. This was just the proper run in.
The reason no one goes to the foretop is because no one is supposed to go there. Ok ask me why. The radio antennas and the radar give off radiation.
How long have you been a crew member? The only time you should visit that area is when everything is shut off for maintenance. If you notice body parts turning green and falling off, you will know what caused it.
Thanks for your candor Jared those not in the people business may find your last comments hard to understand but it is a fact and it's great to see your understanding and great attitude

Hey Tommy. I appreciate your comment and the ability to understand where I’m coming from
Meh anyone in hospitality knows what assholes and snobs are like, nothing is ever good enough for them.
Great video! I really enjoyed the brief jet boat tutorial. Out of curiosity, does it usually take 4 people to retrieve the tender? :-)
Loves your attitude, even with a complaint!!!!
Nice content and great filming and commentary. Keep them coming Jared!

Aaaaa maze Zing! Loving these vids! Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Just be careful of what you say my friend. You never know who may be seeing your channel (guest, captain, management agency etc) and would not take it as you intended to be or even see it as an insult to them die that anyone this days can search the owners name on internet by knowing the boats name. It could affect your wonderful career.
Best regards from a high seas chef in Europe. Stay safe.
I'm really enjoying this channel. I actually wouldn't mind being a yacht crew as long as the owner treated the crew with respect.
I just watched below deck last night. My favorite tv show
runningkirk walk stopped watching it last year, so full of false drama, has it improved?
Maybe consider a harness when going a loft. Very easy to slip and fall from the mast especially when you're one fumbling with a camera.
Bugs are a thing no matter where you are. They swarm at night, and often get stuck, or condensed onto surfaces (where most die). The worst thing is a passenger who insists on getting up early and wandering around before the crew has had chance to wipe down. Some of them seem to think something unusual has happened. It's absolutely normal.
If i owned a boat..id treat my crew as family, sure they work for you but thats no reason to mistreat them. And my guests would do the same.A happy crew would do more for you and actually enjoy it.Everybody wins.
Well done J, love the videos Craig
Thank you Craig!!!
Jared! I enjoy your videos! Where would you suggest going online to research renting a small yacht (5-10 people)? Very similar to the boats you do videos on. Thanks much!!
In boating this chrisis always happen (within a week). When the initial happines (due to a new experience, new place, beauty of nature, ...) starts to fade and gets balanced (like everything in life needs to balance) with negativity you get such days. Very often there is also heavy drinking involved as well, so the landing is even rougher. I've had the experience and I'm never going on a boat whith anybody else but my wife and my children if it's more than a daytrip.
Hey I live near where you anchored at the beginning of the video, let me know if you need something when you come near Dubrovnik, Croatia again :)
More Carrie!
OK, stupid question of the day: One assumes any tender(s) carried by the boat would act as a lifeboat(s) in case of a catastrophic event and evacuation is required. So, what policies/rules are in place to ensure tender space for all guests and crew is available? By-the-way, you create quite genuine and unique videos. Well edited. And, I especially appreciate the “Be free!” moment in this video!
Charles Hamilton A boat this size would, I think, have several emergency inflatable life rafts tucked away in inconspicuous, but easily accessible locations. Presumably with more than enough space for the maximum crew and passenger complement. That said, I assume the crew trains to get all the passengers off first.
It would take too long to launch the tender and it wouldn't accommodate all guests and crew. As Bill says, there will be separate inflatable liferafts.
What's the name of the song you used at the very end of the video?
Just started watching your channel, it's awesome! Love your editing work and the day in the life you show us viewers 😃
You need to find other ways to keep your guests busy on board. While they are traveling with you. Doc retzer
That intro was slick!
Ya know Break means take apart and Brake means stop. Ya me either.
so many Saffa;s in the industry - my wife was Chief Stew on big boats for 10 years.
Lekker man. Geniet dit
I think you've talked about it in the past, but what kind of drone do you have. It's a Mavic 1 isn't it? Been drooling over the Mavic 2 Pro. Just lack the funds. :-)
Do you require explicit permission from the captain or owner to make these videos or submit them for content review?
Again a super awesome vid, boytjie!! Particularly liked the "Shaka" Hahahaha. It's such a saffa thing! Like boerewors and biltong (which of course you don't eat) REALLY enjoying your vids, keep 'em coming! :)

As well as yourself and the crew work, there is always something someone doesn’t like. Yacht life can create some small minded complaints. Continue the great effort to bring the best insight for us viewers and the best stay for your guests. Thanks again Jared
Thank you MJ. You are 100% right. Close quarters always causes a few issues .
Tender question, is it similar to a Jet-Ski as in it only steers when it is in gear? or does it have a steering rudder. We have all seen people on Jet drives crash into things because they take of the throttle and try to turn. Big Half Thumbs up:)
Just started watching, hello from SoCalifornia.

Usually! Haha
I’m in hotel business. Guests will find anything to complain about. I bet you that yacht was spotless to begin with
Looking very cool...Happy Holidays to you...
thank you for sharing your great experiences and pictures. Great content. Which instruments for controlling a super yacht are actually the state of the art in the yachting industry? Are names like feadship also the yachts with the best controlling instruments and which producers are the best?
Actually these days come to everyone no matter where you work. The important thing as Captain is as long as you are satisfied the crew did their job and the crew know you have their back then all is good.
When the price is so high people are going to expect perfection.
What size boat your on. And also how does the boat handle in the ocean. Can you feel the boat move alot. I been on a huge cruise ship through the Caribbean and i can feel it move alot sometime and i cant imagine with a smaller boat
Sounds like the complaints come with the territory. I mean, only a small demographic can afford to charter a yacht and they usually often tend to be over demanding as well as over entitled and many times unappreciative of the long ways workers have to go to make the guests lives so much easier.
youd think but the guests arnt much better themselves my stepfather owns holiday lets in cornwall and its made crystal clear to the guests that during there stay they are renting the cottage for there duration and for that duration it belongs to them and they are responsible for its upkeep
before they go in we spend a whole day making sure everything is pristine and perfect carpets get vacumed windows washed all the cupboards squared away beds made the whole 9 yards
weve had customers complain for dumb shit like the welcome mat was dirty...... well i kinda imagine the mat whos purpose in life is to wipe muddy boots on would have some spots of dirt on it
but then you see the state they leave the cottage in when they leave and your left astonished for someone that complains about mud spots on a welcome mat youd think theyd do basic shit like well
washed there dishes atleast once during there stay instead of piling them in the sink
tried to keep the floor somewhat clean we dont expect them to be hoovering and mopping lots during there stay but when the tile floor is covered in muddy boot prints youd think theyd of atleast cleaned that up some crumbs on the carpet is nothing to worry about well sort that but muddy boots everywhere is just lazyness
or you know cleaned the god damn toilet after they took a bad shit....no fuck that id of been satisfied if they flushed the fucking thing when they were done
they seriously dont care if we presented the place like that wed recive no end of complaints but when there done they just drop the keys off and leave we even had one try and defend herself by saying we advertised maid service....we dont we advertise its available on request in that we have a cleaner who you can hire to do this shit for you for whatever we charge but like we said you own it for your stay you look after it and we look after it before the next guest
so no there not usualy so high standard the guests themselves are usually pigs who have the money to pay someone else to have high standards for them and expect the world
If you see what it cost to charter a yacht, you better expect perfection.
@@AllAmericanGuy01 I am WELL aware of the cost to charter a yacht. I'm also very aware that it does not cost much to treat people with dignity and respect, even if they are paid to serve you. That bratty , entitled ,over privileged, nothing is ever good enough until you're on your knees for me attitude can only be endured for so long.

I'd advise against going on or close to the antennas on the mast, they can severely injure a person if coming in contact with any, especially radar
Hi Jared, awesome video. Regarding drone shots, have you ever had any problems with authorities? I know that Croatia is quite strict on drones, where you have to apply for flight approval almost 4 weeks in advance, but I'm not sure if it's enforced?
Go to Egypt and your drone is gone. Ask Tom he lost all ready one.
Croatia and Slovenia have STUPID drone law...
I never had an issue thankfully but I definitely wasn’t the only one flying one
@@jaredwatney Will you be in NORTH ADRIATIC?
Loving your videos man, what do you do when you're not working like in your break/ down times???
Onboard? I edit videos or sleep 😆
Love watching your videos. One question: how many crew are on board this boat and what roles?
I think it can depend on the number of guests. Let's say a family of 2 adults and 2 kids book a vacation. There would probably be a captain, a first mate (basically a co-pilot), a cook, a stewardess and a mechanic. That last crew member is vital. If you book a cruise and there is no mechanic on board, what happens when the ship blows an engine? Most ships of this size need two HUGE engines to generate enough power so they can actually get somewhere. Of course, double the engines can mean double the risk of problems. If they say "We just contact the coast guard for help," I'd be worried. You won't know how long it'll take for them to show up and tow the yacht to the nearest port. I would only book cruises with small charters if the mechanic lives on board during the entire cruise. Better to have one and see him/her bored than to be stuck in choppy seas 20 miles from port with a busted engine. And this guy's yacht AND another one I follow (Super Yacht Captain) have had engine breakdowns. It goes with being in the business of pleasure cruising. The question is: "how well prepared is the business owner?" If the owner thinks mechanics are "a phone call away," run run run for the hills. That owner is insane to think the problem can be fixed instantly. I learned a little from having a great-uncle who owns a 90-ft yacht.
Jared, surely it should be a BRAKE on the anchor winch not a Break
Do you guys have a safety procedure to confirm the radar is disabled before you climb up there?
dose this guy own the boat or is he just a crew member who is working on the boat because nobody is renting it. or the owner is not on it
Great video! Well done👏
Kind of you Chris!!
