Columbia changed from the 2 eye label to the circular gold "Columbia" label shortly after Abraxas was released. Verify your American pressing is first release by the dead wax. My first issue Abraxas had a 2 eye label, but they switched over in mid production of Abraxas. I opted for the SACD of the MoFi Abraxas instead of the vinyl. While the SACD sounds good, the original vinyl had far more dynamics that the SACD. When the guitar makes it's first entrance in "Singing Winds, Crying Beasts", the sustained note on the vinyl builds to a more intense climax on the original than on the SACD
I have to say that if you could hear the UK OG you would be pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds ..Hands down the best pressing I have heard of Abraxas
I was at a record store today in Amsterdam today and they had a UK Original and since PBTHAL is raving about that version. I had a listen and was not that impressed. They had a later orange CBS label pressing as well and I preferred that one. I didn't buy any because I have an original US, NL and the Mofi. So until the one step gets repressed I'm set with this record.
The quadraphonic lp has a great mix of the first track which in my opinion beats all other stereo records… even just playing it in stereo… but the rest of the lp is far better sounding with the stereo mix
Damn, that reminds me that I came across an early/original U.S. pressing at my local record store. I passed on it, but I wonder if I should go for it next time I visit.
I was hoping you would compare the SV version to the non-One step 2008 Mofi version (also at 33rpm). That cut seems to be all analog (though not sure if it was the original Tape or a safety copy or whatever).
So it means that Mofi first transferred the original analog recording from the mastet tape to DSD through the AD converter, and then transferred that digital recording through the DA converter and then put it all through the analog console and its equalizer and then made a new "mastertape" for cutting?
I have the abraxas 1 step so i didnt get this new one. For me in my cheap $1000 system the 1step abraxas is the best version of abraxas however its not my best sounding record. my alan parsons i robot mofi UHQR sounds better to me and my pink floyd wish you were here japanese master sound sounds better also. Oh... and for me..the yes fragile 1step is slightly more impressive than the abraxas 1 step on my cheap system.
@@top5records796 I bought it from music direct the day it released for $120. I love Santana and when I heard abraxas was coming out I didnt mind paying the $100. everyone was complaining about the transition from black magic woman and oye como va but I didnt care. Obviously now it was a great decision.

Perhaps it’s worth it! How much did it cost and what was the condition?
@ Last I checked it was around $20 in VG/VG+ condition. Had the original poster too.
The original sounds great, especially the Spanish pressing.

Interesting! Though I always find it hard to compare different records with regard to audiophile quality. Where did you find this Abraxas One Step?
