PSP, N64, Saturn and even 3DO struggled hard in the shown instances, I hoped for more when seeing the specs in the beginning. The new Unisoc Tiger CPUs now being used in the latest handheld devices will break some of these barriers by just raw force, I would hold my horses until then or if money is not the main concern, go MiSTer FPGA. Less systems but overall great experience.
Surprisingly 3DO is always quite poor on even devices that run Saturn very well.
@@RetroCore It´s a bit of a shame, I really loved my 3DO back then, was a glimpse into what the future did hold for us.
I put together a very cheap X96 Max Plus with S905X3 like this, and it's great as a nice box to take on holiday. Emuelec is excellent but systems like Saturn will need some tweaking. Using the standalone Saturn emu is the right idea but you'll need to into the settings and lower the screen resolution to "original". You can get some quite surprising performance with it tbh. A bit of faffing in the settings can make a big difference.
So very true. These boxes do need a lot of trial and error to get the most out of them.
You need to buy the lightning modz v2 elite, it runs all this stuff perfectly 👍👍
Hi Mark,
I'm terribly sorry in regards with the results of the World Cup with England vs France bro. But our teams will do much better in 2026 and will looking forward to see England in the UEFA European Championships in the near future bro.
Anthony..
Well, it's to be expected. Still, they lasted a lot longer than Germany who lost to Japan!
Next one of these devices you try out, test to see if the second controller is still working after about 10 minutes. I'm not sure about wireless controllers, but I keep finding with systems like this, additional controllers drop out after ten minutes or so. Very often the pcb has them all connected up in a kind of hub configuration, rather than each controller getting its own bus
Interesting info. To be honest I never try the second controller. Maybe something to consider for the future.
Goodness I would not have expected good atomiswave emulation from this tiny box. Shame about the sega saturn emulation issues though.
I wonder with some tweaking wouldn't be possible to improve the Saturn emulation.
I didn't realise those bootleg PS3 controllers just had a Bluetooth dongle shoved into the back panel! 😆
Lol, the first time I saw one I thought it was broken with the dongle rattling around inside.
Sega! I curse you for making that difficult to emulate machine called Saturn! Thanks for the info Mark xD
You're welcome 👍
I have a similar device and my question to you Mark is this. How do you play multi disc games for say the Amiga. Single floppy disc games are fine but something like Ultima 6 requires you to switch discs at points. How do you do that? I actually got a USB keyboard and it works great with it as the controller works like a mouse. Just thought it would be cool to play some of the Amiga/PC stuff but until I can figure out how to switch discs it isn't much good. If you try it and figure it out let me know. Thanks.
I have absolutely no idea. I've only ever ran single disc games on this. Good question though.
I have a similar device, the Super Console X Pro, and multiple disc Amiga games work automatically, the disk swap is taken out of the equation. It's great. My only downside with it is the Spectrum games are all 48k and not 128k, so no music. 😁
@@glenaitken9403 Interesting. Sadly this one does not do it. When it asks you to change discs it just stops. I'm sure there's an option or something but I haven't found it yet.
@@RetroCore Thanks Mark. I'm sure there's a way. My options screen is nearly identical to yours. I haven't dug around in it too much, waiting for my computer savvy friend to stop over and help me figure it out,but I did see a disc swap option. It seems to work with PS1 games but not sure if it does with PC games. Ah the days of having a computer game on 10 floppy discs eh? Not really something I miss. Lol.
Is ultimate Ghost N Goblins available on this box for PSP ? Does it plat well ? I can not find any of these cheap Chinese emubox to play Ultimate Ghost N Goblins.
Nah, it doesn't run very well. It is a bit slow.
Where can you get one of these?
Link is in the video discription.
@@RetroCore thanks, i somehow missed that :D
Booting into EMUELEC means that this can ONLY be an Amlogic ARM chip (S905X3, 4GB RAM). Even so, Sega Rally & Last Bronx should run better. Clearly, it needs some tinkering with it. As for the MSRP, IMO it's not worth it. There are the same specs Android TV boxes that cost no more than $39.95. For these boxes, it is up to user to install EMUELEC on SD & load it with games. Up to PS1these games can run on potato. Above that, (N64, DC & PSP) games will run with mixed results, while pure 2D titles should run just fine. And no, S905X3 cannot run God of War games for PSP. Those are the most demanding games for the system. Not even S922X can run them correctly!
Edit: Great news. Few months back, SNK has greenlit a new Garou (not The King of Fighters!) game!👍🥳🎆
I wondered if selecting the "Beta" rather than "Stable" would be the issue?
@@RetroSegaDev Plausible. EMUELEC is for Amlogic (not all of them) ARM chips only. Amlogic markets low-end SoCs. Can't hold a candle to it's competition. Unisoc, Rockchip, MediaTek. Snapdragon... is in the next era.
It was actually better than the stable release that was on the device. Not by much but it was better. Saturn has more potential under the beta firmware for example. PSP was still poor on both though.
It isn't EMUELEC that is at fault. The Amlogic chips themselves aren't powerful (even S922X) enough to run those games correctly. As for use as an Android TV box they fall flat here too. Since all these cheap Chinese boxes are running on rooted Android (rooted straight from the factory), users will not be able to use them for the streaming services properly. Netflix app will not be able to run video above 480p, even though that Amlogic chips do support up to 4k. The app will detect that the OS is rooted and will not allow to watch the content above 480p. Some apps will outright refuse to be installed. Quite flawed devices☹️
the problem is emuelec it is a bad emulator batocera runs everything flawlessly
No it's not, it's very good. It's just on these very low power devices you have to A) temper your expectations and B) be prepared to take some time in the various settings to make it run. I would say instead of buying these rom-dump boxes, get a cheapo box and install it all yourself. You'll learn how to make it work much better than these Chinese resellers. It just takes time to do, that's all.
@@creechrfeechr8094 you're wrong but oh well
@@darrenparry2826 I'm not dude. Batocera is awesome for Pi and PC, but Emuelec is better for these boxes. I've installed enough of these systems to know. 😉
This is very true. With some trial and error this divice could run much better. I like to show things out of the box so to say, so people know what they're getting in to.
"Capable" of crap emulation.
I didn't say it was capable of good things 😅
What is your favourite budget box?
None. They all seem to fail at something.
