It is clearly demonstrated by Zulu history is that there was never any established Zulu tradition that binds kings to appoint chiefs from a tribe for the so-called role of premier chief. The premier chieftaincy IS NOT a hereditary title. Chief Buthelezi's claim is a fabrication that was not corroborated by history.
How did Gatsha Buthelezi fashion as a ‘Prime minister to the Zulu Nation’? Chief Buthelezi was a first cousin of Chief Cyprian. Because of Gatsha’s education, he proved a great asset to his cousin, King Cyprian, particularly because he had majored in Native Administration and History. He was the King’s closest adviser on many political questions. He also attended the Royal Council in his capacity as chief of the Buthelezi tribe. It is arguable, then that Gatsha was an important courtier among others. But for the formal position of Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation, or Premier Chief, there is no conclusive evidence. His family ties to the king allowed him proximity and access to His Majesty which Buthelezi exploited vigorously, but definitely not a formal position.
Besides, this position of Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation is close to being pointless and irrelevant since it will always be compared to the executive position of Premier of KZN.

@thembelanimdungeFor me I think the argument is that people should not think that the premiership of KwaZulu is not a hereditary, and that people should accept the king’s release of the chief from this role. However, I personally do not think that the issue at hand is about hereditary of the premiership of KwaZulu.
