it's probably the most powerful line in the entire song because of how hard it hits just goes to show how important technique is for poetry, even in adaptations
It looks like there aren't as many arguments in this comment section as of recent, but... I feel like it needs to be said that people are allowed to interpret a song differently. Some can think she has D.I.D., some can think she's faking it, some can think there's something else at play. I myself believe that she neither has D.I.D. or is faking it. I interpret it as her previous relationship was very toxic and it put a lot of strain on her mentally, so she was no longer able to trust people or allow them to get close to her. So, she put up different fronts (think of it as making people have to tear down the walls she built one at a time in order to really know her). I don't think they're different personalities, because each of them appear to only represent one personality /trait/, and not a whole entire personality. She just exaggerates certain parts of her. The guy she liked would be overwhelmed, because every time he talked to her, she'd act completely different from before. I don't think he was actually telling her to choose one of her "personalities" to become, but he was telling her to just be her true self so that he could love the real her, and not a front she put up in order to not get hurt. But like I said, everyone is allowed to interpret this song in a different way! All that matters is that you enjoy the song. No arguments are necessary! :)
Oh damn I love this theory. The DID doesn’t stick much with me, the Schizophrenia makes more sense but still reaching far, the whole ‘Personality Front Shield’ theory is great though! Especially since there’s so much emphasis on relatio ships.
This theory could be correct because she Yeeted out of existence her other personalities and you could see the mask got cracked and her old face is back.
Basically what the song is about is how you act near different people. So then she likes a guy and she has to decide what she wants to act like then she realizes "oh gotta be who I am". Basically it's how you act with different people. At a formal meeting you act like a professional person but when your at a party you can be the life of the party so she's deciding how she's gonna act like in front of her crush. She's talking to herself and not the guy because she's using a puppet as practice to decide what she act like when it's not the puppet but her crush.
Film Wolf she has multiple personalities. Number one is the unbroken, number two is the mentally broken version of her which in turn creates the other personalities to try to cope with whatever has hurt them, in this case a rough break up.
honestly? i see it more like "a love than broke me" is parental love. their love ended up breaking her. (or CW: CSA) She could have been raped as a child. at least thats a theory which could still fit the line about the creation of the alters.
I mean, music (Especially Japanese ones) usually doesn't speak literally in order to fit a theme or tempo so it very well could be a euphemism for abuse.
@@rainbowskyelines I actually thought this is what the song said the entire time!! I didn't even know people perceived it differently until this comment thread.
My personal theory is that she never truly had DID...that's how she simply went back to the first "me" when he asked. It was all an act, and he knew that.
i remember singing along to this years ago and thinking how funny it is that she didn't know. .......i've now been diagnosed with DID so the clown nose goes to me
@Ggnkrsfkoqxbk Honestly? Complicated... We try to get along but there's often fights... Some of us are friends yea... but not everyone is with everyone. some of us are just room-mates forced together against our will.
as someone with DID, half the comments are really inaccurate to what the disorder is like and ive seen a small handful of people actually explain it well (ie Remy Remy) and this song's plot is kinda shitty too but accurate at the same time?? its wild and hard to describe what its like if you dont have DID so thats understandable but nice job anyways juby LKGJSDXCJJLKXCGKJL
I agree. The way they fuse is accurate but the way it started is not. They fuse because the core accepts the parts of herself and understands why they were created.
I guess I know what you mean with shitty but accurate at the same time. Maybe that is because even tho its the same "Disorder" ( I dont like that word). its still showing up differently on each person. If I am comparing this song to me and the others in my body: 1. "all of us are in love with the same guy" I would say, for all to have a good relationship to one specific person is the same. Well, not all love him, some, especially the kids, are seeing him just as a brother. But mostly all are trusting him. 2. "Each time you come around, you’re like a whole new face to me" in my past where i wasnt aware of the other personalities, I got to hear those words often. 3. "Six, know that this is the only way to stay safe Seven, whatever happens stays in Vegas, don’t remember Eight, it’s not like they even know they all exist." or the original translation which fits more in my opinion: "Six - that's how she protected herself Seven - they don't share their memories Eight - they don't even know each other exist" All three are fitting. Six - Some personalities are protecting the others and can be helpful in some situations. (of course not always). I guess without the splitting I would have died. Seven - not all are sharing the same memories yes. Eight - in the past there was one person that I didnt knew existed. It is possible, that even now there are hidden ones (for me). 4. "Four, make sure you’re not alone inside your head" this is not true for me. My thinking is completely seperatet from the others, and I am not hearing the other voices in my head (sadly). 5. "Our ears were ringing a pounding beat" or the original translation "Our hearts began to beat fast". Well like I said in 1 we are not sharing the same feelings, so if i am seeing my crush my heart pounds faster but if another one is active, then the heart rate stays normal. 6 "But why are we all here?" or the oringinal translation: "Their reason for being is... what?". I am aware of my traumatas and the reasons the first was splitting. But I dont think all are aware of the reasons, because of the not always shared memories. In the end I am coming to the conclusion, that many lines of the song are fitting to my DID. but not everything.
I mean, too be fair this isn't about DID. She literally says she doesn't have it. If I'm correct, this is more of a personified version of someone having multiple faces, due to probably previous situations in life.
Agreed. It's so strange to see. I was diagnosed three years ago and I'm seeing people describe it AWFULLY. Like.... God people. Stop talking about disorders you don't have like you know all about them.
In which the comment section doesn't know about DID/Multiple systems Can I just thank you Juby for using the proper/current terminology? The original using "Multiple personality disorder" instead of "dissociative identity disorder" makes me uncomfortable
i performed this song at a school "coffeehouse" (singing/arts sign up concert) last friday and they ATE. IT. UP. no one besides me and like 3 other people at my school listen to vocaloid, and the--typically--unique set up of the lyrics and composition really impressed them!! i did have to cut out the 'but' before 'each time you come around...' in order to properly sing it, but I still think i did pretty well.
I can sort of relate because I have DPD (Depersonalization disorder) where it feels like you are looking at another person through a fuzzy glass window.
As a system (OSDD-1b) who has loved this song for years, here's my take. This song is about DID. It is a questionable representation of DID at best. However, that does not take away from the parts of this song & it's representation of DID that I love! Now, there's a bunch of people in the comments saying some variation of 'It's not about DID! It's actually about-'. I understand where they're coming from, but just because this song completely misunderstands some basic facts of DID doesn't mean that's not what it's about. The song itself is pretty damn clear - there is a girl who forms multiple personality states that can control her body, but there is amnesia between the personalities & they are not aware of the existence of the others. That's the song writer's understanding of DID. And, all things considered... That isn't entirely as bad as it seems. The outlined 10 alters are a refreshing change from the 2 to 5 generally seen in media, and the song clearly outlines the reason for each alter's formation instead of sticking to system roles (host, protector, persecutor, introject, etc) - I like this, because system roles are just observed patterns that occur due to the nature of DID, rather than being strict roles that alters have to follow. We still see system roles present to some extent (I like the idea that the singer is alter #2 and is the host of the system), but it's not explicitly stated, and I like that! A whole bunch of the lyrics are super relatable to me (e.g. '8, it's not like they all know that they exist' is wayyy more common than you think it is), especially the realisation scene - 'But why are we all here, and who am I?'. The guy being the catalyst for the narrator's realisation of her system & from that, the start of her healing journey is also a really nice touch. Although our realisation was a little more all over the place & didn't involve anyone else, it's not at all uncommon for people to only put the pieces together when they are explicitly told by someone in their life that they have been literally presenting themselves as a whole other person for a long period of time (e.g. a temporary change in hosts). Now, to be clear: Love issues in a teenage girl do not cause DID that can be resolved in one (1) conversation. The currently accepted understanding is that DID can only form in children who have experienced some form of trauma or other identity-disrupting experience that has then not been properly handled. Final fusion is a long process, and functional multiplicty is growing in popularity as an alternative. But like... An unaware alter in a system who is currently under stress absolutely could split over something like a crush, especially if they have a comorbid disorder that makes relationships harder and/or more intense. I don't think that's stupid, and it's great for a song. I'll also once again point out the lack of system roles - the girl's alters are depicted as having the same base motivations & knowledge, but differing personalities & approaches, and none of them are villanised for that. It's such a breathe of fresh air for the time period. Similarly, although there are lyrics implying this was the first girl's choice or an active thing the girl perpetuates, it's still not portrayed as scary, or her lying on purpose. The desire to change herself for him is definitely the source, but it's grown out of her control, and once she realises this, she's able to address it. Not entirely realistic or flattering, but it's still a much more accurate & positive portrayal of DID than a lot of the stuff around this time period. This song is about a girl who develops DID over her crush on a boy, and that's okay. It's not an accurate portrayal, and that's okay. I, as the host of a system, see parts of my own experience in the flawed portrayal, and that's okay. In short: I like this song :) EDIT: I decided to check out VGPerson's translation of this song, and I find it interesting how much blunter it is with the lyrics. JubyPhonic added in some vagueness in her lyrics that isn't present in VGPerson's translation - e.g. Juby ties the counting lyrics to each alter, while VGPerson's translation is instead more directed symptoms (e.g. 'Three, push it from your mind, deny that it's denial' vs 'Three - refusing to accept the memories', 'Seven, whatever happens stays in Vegas, don’t remember' vs 'Seven - they don't share their memories'). I actually much prefer a lot of Juby's alterations (e.g. she uses the correct term of DID instead of the outdated MPD), and I think her version of the realisation scene is more relatable to me. Having said that, VGPerson's translation really dispels any doubt as to the meaning/plot of the song - it's about DID, not some other disorder or identity confusion.
me when I develop one of the most complex traumagenic disorders known to the DSM-5 and then because some guy won’t date me I simply will it away by sheer willpower
oh heh. eight years later and finding some of my old favorites... and kicking myself because it really should have been a little more obvious given the music we used to listen to. Not to mention that half the system already knew by the time I figured it out.
"you think I have a DID?" idk why but I laughed at the phrasing of that-- also yes I'm VERY late to the party but I forgot how much I loved this song after like 4 years of not listening to it
I may be a bit late to the party, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents on the whole DID thing. I have done some research on this topic and I think this song represents a different but related condition. From my understanding DID is the result of extreme trauma that "shatters" a base personality and results in selective amnesia. The resulting personalities are often variations of the base personality from different points in the originals life. In this case though it seems that the alters were created deliberately and varied significantly from the original. The closest real world parallel I have heard of is "soul bonders," who (in some cases) create multiple alternate personalities (most often based off of fictional characters) and flip between them as they see fit. Do note that the main example of this I've heard of was also effectively an insane cult leader, so it might not be a good thing to try. TLDR The condition in this song likely could be classified as a dissociative disorder and could certainly be an unhealthy way of coping, but probably isn't true DID.
By the lyrics it seems she really had DID, started with 2, then went to 10; being rejected isn't really a trigger to make more Identities, nor overcoming that something easy to do, but whatevs, it was cool music
I would agree with you, but since she snapped out of it pretty quick, I don't think she really had a personality disorder. Most personalities know about the main personality, but that personality doesn't know about the others. This right here is pulled straight out of wikipedia (if you really want to look into, go ahead, but I'm not going to if I don't need to): "It is generally believed that DID rarely resolves spontaneously. In general, the prognosis is poor, especially for those with comorbid disorders. There is little systematic data on rates of the condition.[9] It is believed to affect between 1% and 3% of the general population, and between 1% and 5% in inpatient groups in Europe and North America." and: "Dissociative identity disorder (DID), also known as multiple personality disorder (MPD), is a mental disorder characterized by at least two distinct and relatively enduring identities or dissociated personality states. These states alternately show in a person's behavior, accompanied by memory impairment for important information not explained by ordinary forgetfulness. These symptoms are not accounted for by substance abuse, seizures, or other medical conditions, nor by imaginative play in children. Dissociative symptoms range from common lapses in attention, becoming distracted by something else, and daydreaming, to pathological dissociative disorders. Symptoms vary over time."
Okay, here's my input. She started off with a DID; two personalities. Her boyfriend, overwhelmed by it, broke up with her for a girl without a DID. Gumi flipped and ended up creating 8 more personalities in order to become everything that her rival was. The boy, in an effort to help her, told her they could only be together if she were to overcome her now 9 personalities. In the end, she does so, and they go out again. ??
『sketch』 That's... not at all how DID works. With DID I should first explain they're called alters, not personalities. And they don't go away, they're there unless they go dormant (which is where they sort of stop being active) or through integration (where you purposefully try to join together and become one person), only the later is the one you can do on purpose but not everyone with DID likes that idea. It really depends on the individuals. They're also not usually caused by things like dating nor do alters come in that many numbers at a time, usually one or two might come around from trauma or stress, or more than two of course if the incident is really bad. We're plural ourselves without DID, and honestly with us dating you have to be fine with all of us or we're leaving (and at least most of us have to at least tolerate you haha)
I honestly dont think the song was written to represent DID, I feel as though it was written to show how you put on a different character around different people and Gumi has shown him all 10 different personalities and she's realised that she has to act like herself in order to get him to like her rather than acting like 9 other people
If it wasn't to represent DID, then why would the lyrics state "You think I have MPD?" and a bunch of symptoms that describes the disorder, but misrepresenting and causing a bunch of misinformation?
@@cybergalacticnova in the song she literally said "you think I have a DID, but you're still standing there just smiling back at me" which indicates she doesn't have DID, the boy that she likes just thinks that she does lmfao
@@Jermer10 Even if she doesn't have DID, it's not a good idea to put DID/MPD in there since it implies in comparison to what she is experiencing. Again with DID, not a good comparison. If the song mentioned another dissociative disorder that doesn't involve trauma or any other serious sort, it would've been fine without misrepresentation and miscomparison.
@@cybergalacticnova I never said anything about MPD? I'm talking about how people show a different personality to others depending on who they speak to or are hanging out with. I was never implying the existence of MPD, sorry for the confusion
@@Jermer10 MPD and DID are the same, just that MPD is the outdated term and DID is more accurate name-wise. Anyways, DID is a trauma based disorder. Nothing in Ten Faced is traumatic in anyway. I don't get why it mentioned DID/MPD.
K. I don't get why people are saying this reminds them of Link. I mean, sure, there are numerous Links, but never at the same time, except for four swords, but they were 4 separate people. And Majora's Mask, well, he just got different abilities when he put on a mask. Link doesn't have much of a personality. But anyways, awesome work Jubyphonic.
1: the original/core. The one that was traumatized. 2: the first split? Maybe dormant that's why she wasn't shown? 3: An ANP, basically the host, the one that fronts the most 4: protector, the one that protects the system and host from whatever it's in charge of protecting. The one to basically fight. 5: sexual alter: holds trauma memories of sexual trauma and takes care of things like r@pe. 6: gatekeeper:the one that manages everything and controls everything 7: animal alter: possibly Gumi was treated and/or felt like an animal or the animal alter represents something idk. 8: sexual alter: another one? Well maybe it holds different sexual trauma, or maybe there was another abuser??? Who knows. 9: little: a child alter. In this, I would say that she just represents the child they never got to be 10: trauma holder: holds trauma. the one that remembers the trauma while others don't. (There can be more then one tho) Just my take on the whole thing
I agree and disagree with this. 5: Sexual Protector is the correct term. They don't always hold the sexual trauma, that still usually goes to a trauma holder. Sexual protectors take care of things during uncomfortable sexual situations. Or any sexual situations if the host/s are uncomfortable with sex. Just because there are multiple doesn't really mean anything tbh. We have at least 5. 7: Animal alters are usually companion alters. They're meant to sooth and comfort, just like a real animal. 10: Trauma holders don't usually keep trauma so no one else remembers. We all remember our trauma, our trauma holders are just the only ones truly still effected by the serious trauma.
@@HarryStikers I agree with you. my comment is quite old and I think differently now and have a different understanding about alters and why or how they develop and form the way they do. Especially the fact that you are a system I trust what you say as I am not a system.
This was the first Japanese song I had ever learned to fully sing correctly. I've got an enormous emotional attachment to it. and I never thought a good English cover could be made of it. But this has certainly blown me away.
Y'know, one way to interpret the breakup was that it happened in a very traumatic manner, leading to DID being possible? Perhaps the relationship itself, too. I mean "Switch it up, and never be yourself, *or else"* "know that this is the *only way to stay safe"* definitely makes it sound like a coping mechanism to me.
This actually isn't about DID, it's actually about Identity Disturbance Disorder. DID, is a disorder in which creates different PEOPLE inside the same head. IDD, is a disorder in which there is ONE person with an issue of self idenity to the point they constantly change so much its almost LIKE an entirely different person, but it still IS the same person. It can be well paired with the song "Copycat". This song talks about how she makes "different hers" in order to stay safe. How they are 10 faces of HER, falso symbolized with the masks "she wears" that gets broken in the end scene. These are not DIFFRENT people, AKA, not DID. It's a misconception that its about DID because he says "You think I have a DID", when its actually a line about how she changes so much she gets mistaken for HAVING DID. It's not DID, and not faking it either, its just an illness that makes you say "I've been forced to be so much of everything else to stay safe, I don't even know who I am anymore, here are all the types of me's I can be".
I'm not sure where you're getting the confidence to "uhm, actually" when she very clearly says at the beginning of the song that none of the personalities are aware of each other. What gives a line in the song more validity over another, whether it's useful to your theory or not?
@@Itzaric She doesn't clearly says that her personalities are not aware of each other, it is implied by some of the personalities, but that could be interpreted differently by people. Also, many of the lines in the song, and the fact that the personalities, are really just one line descriptions supports this persons theory. anyway, uhh Have a great day.
@@Itzaric Same reason that made you say you had the right Except the original commenter DOESNT sound entitled unlike how I think you ended up sounding like 3 months ago Be humble, no grumble 👍
I am almost CERTAIN you are just wrong. I read this comment and out of interest started doing research on what you'd said. There aren't any studies, search results or even mentions for IDD being a personality disorder, but rather an umbrella term for many intellectual disabilities, such as autism or down syndrome. Any mention of personality disorders or multiple personality disorders for that matter, are all talking about DID. So unless you have some super secret underground doctor knowledge I think it's safe to assume you are wrong, misinformed or lying.
A few months ago I came up with a story similar to this. It wasn't until later the first week that I realized "Wait this is the plot to ten faced." Whoopsy. I'm still gonna go through with it tho. (my original idea was 'A harem, but all the girls are the same person.' It's gonna be so good. One of the personalities is a guy. It can happen look it up. DID is interesting.)
Whenever I hear this song I like to imagine afterwards she tells the guy she likes she got rid of all the other personalities and he says aww dang it this is my least favorite one.. Oh well I guess...
I see a lot of different interpretations of this song, so might as well put mine in after all these years :D I personally think that each "personality" is actually just a mindset or front that the girl puts up depending on the situation and person. However, she can't pin-point this new boy she has a crush on, and therefore can't use any of her different fronts even though she tries too, eventually the boy just tells her that he wants her to be herself before he will accept being with her. Even though this confuses the girl, she tries her very best to find who she truly is inside. That's all I really have, but It's so awesome to see the other interpretations as well!
Also I love this although it's kind of a really lighthearted take on the actual disorder. I'm kind of hoping covers like this got a lot of people to look into it with even a little seriousness! I've been friends with someone who has DID and it's actually something that can be scary for a person to have! It's like having chunks of time just completely missing from one's memory- Like disassociation but to some extent I can't begin to empathize with. With disassociation at least many people see themselves, sort of like an out of body experience. With this however loved ones tell them things they did that they don't remember doing; things they sometimes couldn't ever see themselves doing. Even people who don't see them on a daily basis can note that they weren't acting like themself. ((I can't speak for anyone with DID, if this isn't truly an accurate description please correct me. This is simply the experience my friend shares with people who ask.))
Mary Growse That sounds awful :/ i can't relate since i don't have DID but i know what it's like for someones personality to change and do things they would never usually do whilst being in control (happens to me alot lately i go from being myself to someone else a disgusting person who wants to fight and do cruel and lewd things. Having that experience there i can't imagine how something worse then that could be......:c
Creelieooo nope because i'm not into that kind of stuff i am actually 100% the opposite. My ex noticed that i would change personalitys late into our relationship one minute i would be happy me loving her next hour i would be trying to destroy the relationship despised her and everyone around me. The next hour i would be depressed and want to die. I wish it was just being "Horny and sadism" because then i could stop it from occuring. Alot of people close to me have noticed how i change and have highs and lows this is all to do with my depression but im saying this is hard enough to deal with i can't imagine someone with multiple personalitys living in there head that would be FUCKED UP
***** If you feel that the way your moods change is affecting the way you interact significantly, if you do not already for your depression and if you have the resources available to you like a good insurance, it may be beneficial to visit a psychiatrist. I see one one every other month with visits in between when I feel them necessary. Mine is basically a therapist that is able to prescribe my medication to help control my depression, anxiety and ADHD. The medicine I take make a noticeable difference with all three of those things, though most notably the depression. I know there's still a pretty big stigma about going to see doctors for mental health, but finding one you can be open and honest with can be unimaginably helpful. ;v;
Mary Growse Yeah im going to a psychologist thinking of going to a psychiatrist. finding help is the best thing i have ever done it hasn't "cured" me but its made it alot more bareable :)
+Rikky Arredondo No Multiple Personality Disorder is when someone is traumatized at a very young age, though everyone's definition varies a bit.Basically this song was made to represent the disorder(some don't view it as one though-they may want help with trauma but that's all if they even truly have any they view as being their origin-). When you have MPD you basically have different personalities since the trauma was so severe that the young child would've essentially "broke". So in order to protect the young child they dissociate and new personalities are developed to protect/take the truama. Though how different the personalities are varies. Some are only fragments(when they are made ONLY for one thing). While others are full blown people(own feelings, thought processes, gestures,sexuality,etc.). Though it may seem like bipolar since they may seem like there are ups and downs(you can this and any other disorder) but they are completely different since you can't truly get rid of it-integration doesn't always stay or even truly happen- or even medicate for it while with Bipolar you can at least medicate for it.Also its no longer called that its called DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder-though the older one sounds better/fits better than the new one at least to me-
Rikky Arredondo Sorry Is there any way I can make it easier for you to understand?(I almost always have to reword what I said-even in real life-). So yeah if you don't really understand what I said I don't mind fixing it just tell how to fix it.
i always interpreted this figuratively, that the girl, after being rejected by the guy she likes, tries to put forth ten different "personalities"- faking her interests and temperament- in order to see which one appeals to the guy. but he sees right through it, and rather than keep trying to satisfy him, the girl goes back to focusing on herself and appreciating the "real" her
Ya know, this could be a really cool ensemble song.. like in a musical. So each girl sings her part, the guy sings his part, and in the chorus all the girls sing together. Oh and during the instrumental section, i imagined the guy sitting at a table for two, and each girl goes on a quick “date” with him. Idk it just sounded cool in my head haha
Kiley Parker well, obviously. I just said that because I would usually get notifications when Juby uploads but this time I didn't so when I saw it I was a little surprised.
Love the discourse this cover brought, even tho its a traslyric cover and some meaning can be lost. My input is y'all forget the line is " you THINK i have a DID ? " Clue word Think, maybe since she's so over vigilant the masking is s0 much she takes it was 10 alters, but when questioned and supported she noticed it was that, masking. Did she really had to build such high emotional walls ?
/INTERNAL SCREAMING /CANT SCREAM BECAUSE FRIEND IS PLAYING PROJECT DIVA BUT WHATEVER I love this song soooo much and it makes me so happy that Juby decided to cover it! Thank you! It's great ^~^ I like how it's jazz and not the original; it mixes things up :)
the first chorus was very cool! i love the way you sang "what does she" to sound almost like "watashi" and for a second i wondered if you had switched languages! haha
so basically im seeing alot of people bashing each other. The people with more knowledge and people who doesnt. To the people who thinks the song is about personality disorder. *its not* the song is not about MPD/DID or anything in relation to that disorder. The common theme of "masks" The mask represents GUMI's so-called personas and she uses these "masks" to pretend that she is like that girl of the dreams(having different choices). In a sense, GUMI created "choices" not personas and alters, the "choices" metaphorically competes by GUMI herself. GUMI does not know which "choice" her crush likes thats why she is "fighting" them together to eliminate "choices" that the crush does not like. In the end, the crush's real choice is the the *real* GUMI not the "choices" she created GUMI already implied she does not have it : "You think that I have DID?" in Juby's cover "Multiple Personality Disorder? Me?" in OG translation "The real reason why they come to being/reality is....., what? in OG translation these quotes are red flags thats saying that she does not have it. On the first 2 quotes, shes being sarcastic to the guy cause he thinks she has a disorder. For the 3rd one, MPD/DID doesnt come because you willingly want to have it, its caused by big trauma and a very unstable "defense" mechanism to some due to trauma. The 3rd quote basically implies that she created her "alters" for her crush since GUMI is the one saying "The real reason why they come to being/reality is" while her crush is the one saying "What?" This is not DID since it wasnt to be begin with. What does GUMI in this song have then? She's basically just a normal girl that created these personas to know what her crush's preferences. THAT IS IT. More like GUMI actually fits having Borderline disorder. You cannot say that the songwriter of the song has no idea of what DID is when he didnt say GUMI has any disorders additionally the fact that he already removes that possibility by making those quotes I meantioned before. The only one who doesnt actually understand it is the character of the song aka the crush, he does not know what DID actually means and he probably thought its just having many personas which is not the case since its more unstable. edit: also the fact that she can merge or control these personas are a dead giveaway she doesnt have it since people with DID cannot usually control it. GUMI didnt create alters, she created masks to fit her crush's preferences.
Touko Yanashi I'm not very fluent in English, so I'm having a hard time uderstanding your question. When I said that there are a lot of different Links, I meant that, in this song, Gumi has DID, so it's like here are a lot of Gumis. And in the Zelda universe, Link gets reincarnated all the time, so there are a lot of Links. That's why a lot of people compare Gumi to Link.
Ey, son, girl, whatever you are in real life; please don't fall for black Butler. Stuff absorbs you like you wouldn't believe. Turn from it while its not a obsession..please repent!
I noticed something... 2 has the glasses with hearts, and the 'sexy' personality has a heart tattoo. I'm wondering if their linked...? also, her having love glasses maybe could symbolise personality 2's love...?
see now some places on the Internet people split their mind for fun, companionship, and therapy. speaking firsthand it's actually both effective and cool as heck. but, you gotta keep the weaker ones safe otherwise they can be exploited or worse. hence the protection alters like 4 and 7, and managing ones like 6 and 10. but, those ones will burn out if not given proper venting. So it's really an exercise in teamwork, as the child (9), sexuality (8), extrovert (3), romantic (5) (in the case of Gumi's system in this vid) need to come out to er...play, regularly. For personal expression too. And ofc the "repressed" alters like 1 (host) and presumably 2, would need to resolve the issues that caused them to split for a functional team in the long term. In this vid Gumi just re-integrates which works too.
I made an old comment around 11 months about which parts /alters and their roles they are. It's a little outdated, so I thought I should make a new one!! I'm thinking Gumi actually has OSDD1a. As it's not different people or identitys entirely, but different versions of Gumi, which are still alters, but that's what OSDD1a is, less developed alters with amnesia.
exactly! but even then, this song inst a great representation of OSDD-1a, or DID for that matter. Since there is no background talking about childhood trauma, we can only assume she has none. So there is no way she has any form of DID, not even osdd. Not only because of that, but there is no way you can integrate all alters, even at such a small number like 10, into one alter just because you want to date someone. it takes years of therapy. Plus, if you did manage to integrate all alters, there is still a chance at splitting off again. Listening to this song as an undiagnosed OSDD1b system back when she published it was always interesting. I loved the song and thought it was great DID rep. coming back to it as a fully known and diagnosed system is so funny. This song is not good rep at all. Still catchy though lol
@@17cryptic17 I always thought the song talked about the trauma in the beginning of it with the lyrics: "Started with a me that was seen but never heard, she locked things in her heart broken by the love that broke her" Idk why but I thought it was referencing neglect and that the "love" was actually abuse, that when she was a child, saw as love. But maybe I'm reading into it too much lol Also your right! It's almost impossible to final fuse(all the alters fusing into one) without YEARS of therapy, and they may split again in the future! This song isn't the most accurate but as you said, it's still catchy!! At least they didn't make the disorder sound dangerous or more stigmatized. They even called it DID Instead of multiple personality disorder or split personality!! But still, not great representation

Oh yeah I love this interpretation. I didn’t think she had DID at all.
Oh damn I love this theory. The DID doesn’t stick much with me, the Schizophrenia makes more sense but still reaching far, the whole ‘Personality Front Shield’ theory is great though! Especially since there’s so much emphasis on relatio ships.
Ok but hear me out - fragments. Fragments are alters that only hold a specific memory or emotion.
This theory could be correct because she Yeeted out of existence her other personalities and you could see the mask got cracked and her old face is back.
I feel like your interpretation is the only one that truly makes sense though. 😅

That is some sound logic.

Most people with DID: develop identities due to intense childhood trauma
Gumi: *develops 9 other identities because a guy won’t go out with her*
honestly? i see it more like "a love than broke me" is parental love. their love ended up breaking her. (or CW: CSA) She could have been raped as a child. at least thats a theory which could still fit the line about the creation of the alters.
she never mentions her 2nd or 10th personalities, those could be from past trauma.
I mean, music (Especially Japanese ones) usually doesn't speak literally in order to fit a theme or tempo so it very well could be a euphemism for abuse.
i interpreted it as them all existing before this guy tbh, they just fused because of him
@@rainbowskyelines I actually thought this is what the song said the entire time!! I didn't even know people perceived it differently until this comment thread.
My personal theory is that she never truly had DID...that's how she simply went back to the first "me" when he asked. It was all an act, and he knew that.
That does make more sense. . .

It’s not weird to me I think so too
as someone with DID, half the comments are really inaccurate to what the disorder is like and ive seen a small handful of people actually explain it well (ie Remy Remy) and this song's plot is kinda shitty too but accurate at the same time?? its wild and hard to describe what its like if you dont have DID so thats understandable but
nice job anyways juby LKGJSDXCJJLKXCGKJL
I agree. The way they fuse is accurate but the way it started is not. They fuse because the core accepts the parts of herself and understands why they were created.
Same, haha. You summed up how I feel about it too.
I guess I know what you mean with shitty but accurate at the same time. Maybe that is because even tho its the same "Disorder" ( I dont like that word). its still showing up differently on each person. If I am comparing this song to me and the others in my body:
3. "Six, know that this is the only way to stay safe Seven, whatever happens stays in Vegas, don’t remember Eight, it’s not like they even know they all exist." or the original translation which fits more in my opinion: "Six - that's how she protected herself
Seven - they don't share their memories
Eight - they don't even know each other exist" All three are fitting.

Real
In short: I like this song :)
EDIT: I decided to check out VGPerson's translation of this song, and I find it interesting how much blunter it is with the lyrics.

I totally agree with you guys
A guy shouldnt have to deal with a mental disorder like that if he knows he cant handle it.
Lil' Pebble dOnt hold me back-
It’s been 8 years and this is still the best Vocaloid cover I’ve ever heard
I think the same thing, maybe the girl has OSDD-1a, which is DID but the alters can be like different versions of yourself
Una de mis favoritas! Muchas gracias!
I love the fact that she keeps a lot of the meaning when she covers. A lot of the covers of songs I see just follow the basic premise.
DID doesn't work like this at all but the song was pretty nice.
Rokatsu I suppose it was fake or self brought, since she snapped out of it pretty quick.
but I know nothing about DID, ha
i think she created all those personalities to see which one the person shes in love with likes the most
Rokatsu a DID is a multiple personality disorder. look it up.
This right here is pulled straight out of wikipedia (if you really want to look into, go ahead, but I'm not going to if I don't need to):
"It is generally believed that DID rarely resolves spontaneously. In general, the prognosis is poor, especially for those with comorbid disorders. There is little systematic data on rates of the condition.[9] It is believed to affect between 1% and 3% of the general population, and between 1% and 5% in inpatient groups in Europe and North America."
and:
"Dissociative identity disorder (DID), also known as multiple personality disorder (MPD), is a mental disorder characterized by at least two distinct and relatively enduring identities or dissociated personality states.
Miyu Chan that's what I'm kinda thinking
Same.
I think the guy she fell in love with at the end is a different person then the first guy
Also thank you for saying DID and not multiple personality disorder
I loved this... So much...
Juby takes up 85% of my favorite songs playlist.

Actually, the 4 Swords Link is a single Link that is just split in 4
*LINK HAS D.I.D COMFIRMED*
1: the original/core. The one that was traumatized.
2: the first split? Maybe dormant that's why she wasn't shown?
3: An ANP, basically the host, the one that fronts the most
4: protector, the one that protects the system and host from whatever it's in charge of protecting. The one to basically fight.
5: sexual alter: holds trauma memories of sexual trauma and takes care of things like r@pe.
6: gatekeeper:the one that manages everything and controls everything
7: animal alter: possibly Gumi was treated and/or felt like an animal or the animal alter represents something idk.
8: sexual alter: another one? Well maybe it holds different sexual trauma, or maybe there was another abuser??? Who knows.
9: little: a child alter. In this, I would say that she just represents the child they never got to be
10: trauma holder: holds trauma. the one that remembers the trauma while others don't. (There can be more then one tho)
Just my take on the whole thing

I mean
"Switch it up, and never be yourself, *or else"*
"know that this is the *only way to stay safe"*
definitely makes it sound like a coping mechanism to me.
DID can only form during early childhood.
Those little changes you make to the infection of the lyrics when counting off personalities is so cool, I wish I could do that.
+Josh Swaims Hmmm...I think you meant inflection not infection, right? :)
Yeah, sorry about that.
@@Itzaric Same reason that made you say you had the right
Except the original commenter DOESNT sound entitled unlike how I think you ended up sounding like 3 months ago
Be humble, no grumble 👍
Meme Niehe, I think that's a very insightful way to see it
Thank you for having the confidence to share with us
I am almost CERTAIN you are just wrong. So unless you have some super secret underground doctor knowledge I think it's safe to assume you are wrong, misinformed or lying.
did this remind anyone else of the game of life (song)
Oh yeah!!! It does!!!!
+Dingo Nutt No shit
It did
+MaiMaiSim wtf?

Yes Shit?
1:07 - She's flipping off the haters
my entire system loves this song and this cover it is very Blessed. this is an old ass upload but thank you muchly
A few months ago I came up with a story similar to this. It wasn't until later the first week that I realized "Wait this is the plot to ten faced."
Whoopsy.
I love gumi and I love jubyphonic and this is my favorite gumi song and GUMI IS MY FAVORITE WHEN I SAW THIS I SCREAMED
flashback to the Game of Life
this is beautiful

2. Shy/Hidden
3. Genki
4. Tsundere
5. Sexy/Provocative
6. Kuudere
7. Feral
8. Pervert
9. Kawaii/Maiden/Ingenue
10. Sad
I see a lot of different interpretations of this song, so might as well put mine in after all these years :D
I personally think that each "personality" is actually just a mindset or front that the girl puts up depending on the situation and person.
I only have two words..."Four Swords"
Yep...
Mey Rin™ Misread that as four chords
*dies in a corner*
+мєу яιи™ YES

Multiple Personality Disorder THE MUSICAL :D
XD true!
omg XD
XD
XD
🍪
We don't have personality number two!!!
Actually the first personality mentioned is number two and number one only comes in at the very end, it's actually number one singing the song.
The first personality is number 2 who then sings the song then I think the last personality is the first? Idk XD
The Gumi running after the first chorus is number one, and the one at the start of the song is actually number two
Also I love this although it's kind of a really lighthearted take on the actual disorder.
***** Ever thought that you might just be horny and into sadism?
Creelieooo nope because i'm not into that kind of stuff i am actually 100% the opposite.
My ex noticed that i would change personalitys late into our relationship one minute i would be happy me loving her next hour i would be trying to destroy the relationship despised her and everyone around me.
The next hour i would be depressed and want to die.
I wish it was just being "Horny and sadism" because then i could stop it from occuring.
Alot of people close to me have noticed how i change and have highs and lows this is all to do with my depression but im saying this is hard enough to deal with i can't imagine someone with multiple personalitys living in there head that would be FUCKED UP
***** If you feel that the way your moods change is affecting the way you interact significantly, if you do not already for your depression and if you have the resources available to you like a good insurance, it may be beneficial to visit a psychiatrist.
I see one one every other month with visits in between when I feel them necessary. Mine is basically a therapist that is able to prescribe my medication to help control my depression, anxiety and ADHD. The medicine I take make a noticeable difference with all three of those things, though most notably the depression. I know there's still a pretty big stigma about going to see doctors for mental health, but finding one you can be open and honest with can be unimaginably helpful. ;v;
Mary Growse Yeah im going to a psychologist thinking of going to a psychiatrist.
finding help is the best thing i have ever done it hasn't "cured" me but its made it alot more bareable :)
Multiple personality disorder the song
you mean Bipolar?
Though it may seem like bipolar since they may seem like there are ups and downs(you can this and any other disorder) but they are completely different since you can't truly get rid of it-integration doesn't always stay or even truly happen- or even medicate for it while with Bipolar you can at least medicate for it.Also its no longer called that its called DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder-though the older one sounds better/fits better than the new one at least to me-
+Thane Pfeuffer oh, uh, okie..
Rikky Arredondo
Sorry Is there any way I can make it easier for you to understand?(I almost always have to reword what I said-even in real life-). So yeah if you don't really understand what I said I don't mind fixing it just tell how to fix it.
+Thane Pfeuffer Like a simple explanation with less details...? Idk
I think it's so lovely you included the lyrics of DID/explanation of it.
As a DID sufferer this make us very happy and acknowledged.
i always interpreted this figuratively, that the girl, after being rejected by the guy she likes, tries to put forth ten different "personalities"- faking her interests and temperament- in order to see which one appeals to the guy. but he sees right through it, and rather than keep trying to satisfy him, the girl goes back to focusing on herself and appreciating the "real" her
1:05 “so this is a Number 8, will that be all for you”
Ya know, this could be a really cool ensemble song.. like in a musical. So each girl sings her part, the guy sings his part, and in the chorus all the girls sing together. Oh and during the instrumental section, i imagined the guy sitting at a table for two, and each girl goes on a quick “date” with him. Idk it just sounded cool in my head haha
WHAT OMG WHEN DID YOU POST THIS LOL I MUSTVE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK
2 months ago..... the same time you posted your comment.........
Kiley Parker
well, obviously.
/INTERNAL SCREAMING
/CANT SCREAM BECAUSE FRIEND IS PLAYING PROJECT DIVA BUT WHATEVER
I love this song soooo much and it makes me so happy that Juby decided to cover it! Thank you! It's great ^~^
I like how it's jazz and not the original; it mixes things up :)
Thumbs up for Project Diva! I'm currently playing the F2nd one and it's soooo good :3
Agreed
the first chorus was very cool! i love the way you sang "what does she" to sound almost like "watashi" and for a second i wondered if you had switched languages! haha
Seven is wrong.
What happens in Vegas, goes on to RUclips XD
i should know, im a local in Vegas
I've been waiting years for an English cover of this from anyone, I'm so glad we got it from you.
Omggggg i have been waiting on someone to sing ten faces in english its so nice thank you
"Push it from your mind. Deny that its denial!" Best lyrics/advice ever lol. Amazing voice love!
Ten faces? Ten personalities? Multiple hearts? New face every time you're seen?
I think this confirms it, Juby is a Time Lady.
*gives my soul to juby*
I didn't know I needed this until now
so basically im seeing alot of people bashing each other. The people with more knowledge and people who doesnt.
To the people who thinks the song is about personality disorder.
*its not*
the song is not about MPD/DID or anything in relation to that disorder.
The common theme of "masks"
The mask represents GUMI's so-called personas and she uses these "masks" to pretend that she is like that girl of the dreams(having different choices). In a sense, GUMI created "choices" not personas and alters, the "choices" metaphorically competes by GUMI herself. GUMI does not know which "choice" her crush likes thats why she is "fighting" them together to eliminate "choices" that the crush does not like. In the end, the crush's real choice is the the *real* GUMI not the "choices" she created
GUMI already implied she does not have it :
"You think that I have DID?" in Juby's cover
"Multiple Personality Disorder? Me?" in OG translation
"The real reason why they come to being/reality is....., what? in OG translation
these quotes are red flags thats saying that she does not have it.
Why does this remind some people of Link?
Anyway I really enjoyed this!
XD I asked the same thing X3
Ongaku Royal Because there are a lot of different Links.
SpadesNoir you mean gumi herself or the song?
Touko Yanashi I'm not very fluent in English, so I'm having a hard time uderstanding your question. When I said that there are a lot of different Links, I meant that, in this song, Gumi has DID, so it's like here are a lot of Gumis. And in the Zelda universe, Link gets reincarnated all the time, so there are a lot of Links. That's why a lot of people compare Gumi to Link.
SpadesNoir
Ohhhhhhhh :O XD Just clicked on me, Holy crap she is right o:
I'd love this girl
+Ciel .P Lol no shit you would Ciel
Don't cheat! You have Lizzy ಠ‿ಠ
Gamikane
O YAH! You know what i have her on speed dial XD
Ey, son, girl, whatever you are in real life; please don't fall for black Butler. Stuff absorbs you like you wouldn't believe. Turn from it while its not a obsession..please repent!
*attempts to play the bass for this*
*spends more time finding a reasonable price to sell my bass at*
+Infra Violet I feel you. I really really feel you.
+Juul van der Staak I can play the hell out of a Primus song, but walking basslines? Fuckin nope. Which sucks because I love jazz.
Infra Violet I'm still at RHCP-level but yeah this is difficult af.
+Nanni Narayanan -nods in agreement after a prolonged thousand yard stare- Jazz is hell indeed.
2:27 that's got to be a hyper octopus playing there
i took a test and got this as my theme song...and I was like YUSS JUBY FANS ARE EVERYWHERE basically on every website
taking the phrase "two-faced" to a whole 'nother level
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS OMG THANK YOU JUBY
this speaks to me so much. I finally found a song that talks about my illness
oh cool you have a DID? if so how does this speak to you it is really bad at representing it
I've been waiting for this for so long!
Love love LOVE!!
the "why does she have" sounding similar to "watashi wa" is so creative!
So, just learned my phone notifies me of uploads. Cool.
omg ive been waiting so long for an english dub of this thank u omg ily
I noticed something... 2 has the glasses with hearts, and the 'sexy' personality has a heart tattoo. I'm wondering if their linked...? also, her having love glasses maybe could symbolise personality 2's love...?
sud dddfdf but its 3 not 2
@@maddieangelx9685 I am a BIT late but ahhhh yeah you're right. I honestly don't understand what I meant its been too long lol
Time to put this song on repeat xD I am only half way through it and I already love this cover.
Am I the only one bothered by the wrong "lose" there at 2:47?
But other than that, great video Juby! I absolutely loved it.
The softly speaking OMG.
see now some places on the Internet people split their mind for fun, companionship, and therapy. speaking firsthand it's actually both effective and cool as heck. but, you gotta keep the weaker ones safe otherwise they can be exploited or worse. hence the protection alters like 4 and 7, and managing ones like 6 and 10. but, those ones will burn out if not given proper venting.
I remember singing this in my head constantly during high school
This a bop and you can't convince me otherwise
Juby strikes again !!
Gurl, that Jazz thing really goes with ur voice >w<
Amazing ~~
@@17cryptic17 I always thought the song talked about the trauma in the beginning of it with the lyrics:
"Started with a me that was seen but never heard, she locked things in her heart broken by the love that broke her"
Idk why but I thought it was referencing neglect and that the "love" was actually abuse, that when she was a child, saw as love.
But maybe I'm reading into it too much lol
Also your right!
