I think they’ve gone with a multiverse scenario, so you essentially switch to different Beavis and Buttheads.
That’s why you also get Old Beavis and Old Butthead, as well as Space Beavis and Space Butthead.

it's a multiverse now. each time we see them die, it's a different version of them in a different universe.
In the movie, they traveled through a wormhole into a universe where it's 2024 and I suspect the "real" B&B that we know from the 90's is in the same universe as the 40 year old B&B that we sometimes see.
