THANK YOU!!!! Doing the M1L has been SO frustrating getting my needle into the back of the stitch. You are a blessing! It's little tips like that, that only years of experience produce. THANK YOU!!!!!
I'm so glad I found this one..it's made very much easier to remember by the "right back" phrase, and her explanation is a nice, slow speed, so no rushing to try to mentally process when she's already moved on. Thank you very much for this one! I am now subscribed. :)
I love your videos. They always help me so much. I especially love how you give the ways to work around the stitches being difficult to knit when you pick them up. Thank you!
When the bar between stitches is picked up, a M1R slants to the RIGHT in front of the needle, and a M1L slants to the LEFT in front of the needle. The phrase "I'll be right back" is also helpful. Good job.
My pattern says "M1L, M1R". There is no knit stich in between. This makes it impossible to get enough "bar" to make the M1R after making the M1L. I have tried loosening my purl stitches in the row below, but it is still very tight. Is there another trick to make this easier or even possible? I have to do these every knit row!
In this situation, you can use a double increase. Here's a tutorial that explains how to do it - www.10rowsaday.com/double-increase Another option is to knit two stitches in a row through front and back (kfb) This way, you will make 4 stitches out of 2 - exactly what you need. Happy knitting :-)
Euri, it depends on the pattern. This technique helps you add a new stitch, and the pattern should tell you how to work this stitch further on. Happy knitting :-)
Do you have a tutorial for M1L (purl) and M1R (purl) - that is making M1L and M1R purl increases. I recently had to learn to do this, and I didn't find a lot of information about those stitches.
It depends on the instructions in the pattern you follow when you work on a project. In most cases, the increases are done on the right side of the work unless your patterns tells you otherwise. Happy knitting :-)
Please, email me a photo of the place that has two bars and I'll do my best to help you figure out what to do. My email is maryna @ 10rowsaday.com Thank you :-)
Yes, because these increases are formed from strands between the stitches, and not from the stitches themselves, they work the same in classic and in Eastern (Russian) knitting.
First, love your videos so much. Second, I’m confused. And obviously wrong, lol. M1 R : isn’t the stitch leaning to the right? I had audio off at first and thought I was watching M1R ON the right side. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Hi Sharona, The "left" and "right" describe the position of the thread at the bottom of the added stitch, not the slant of the stitch itself. Happy knitting :-)

You are most welcome, Celia! I am happy I could help :-)
Thank you! You are such a calm good teacher.
Thank you so much, Rita :-)
I have watched three or four videos for this stitch. Yours is best!
I use two phrases to help remember the two stitches - I'll be right back (for M1R) and I left the front door open (for M1L)
So clever :-) Great thinking!
I love it! Thank you that helps to remember! I’m constantly looking at the written instructions- this will be life changing!!!
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this tip!
This is the most helpful explanation and tutorial I’ve seen. The logic clicked in my head at the end. Thank you!
You have such a clear way to explain how to do things. Thank you.
Thank you, Betty 🙏

This is the best video showing this, and I've been a sub. for more than 2 yrs thanks
Thank you, my friend :-)
I appreciate the clarity with which you showed picking the strand up back vs front. This is why my increases were making holes!! 💖
A great tutorial. Easy to understand. Honestly, you have one of the best tutorials I've even seen or listened to.
Ohhh, thank you, Olga. You are so sweet :-)
Thanks again, have a bless day and Happy New Year🍇🎉🪅
Thank you :-) Happy New Year to you too!
Easy-to-understand tutorial of M1L and M1R increases with great tips. Thank you.
Thankyou for showing and very easily explained some knitters rave on too much instead of straight to the point. Thankyou ❣👍
You are most welcome, Donna :-) Happy knitting!
Super clear and understandable even for no native speaker. Thanks for sharing

Great tutorial, thank you. Now I have learned how to make new stitches 🧶
Thank you so much! Do you have a video for m1lp and m1rp?
Not yet. Thank you for the suggestion. I've added this topic to my "to-make-tutorials" list.

hey , is this the same way for the russian knitting? I 'm truying to do this now with your video. it goes a lot faster; thank you!
Yes, Veronique, you can use this technique when you knit using the Russian knitting style. I'm glad you find it to be faster :-)
Do they become a pearl or knit when we go back to make a new row thats what i dont understand 😟 pr can i make them in to what ever we want ?
Euri, it depends on the pattern. This technique helps you add a new stitch, and the pattern should tell you how to work this stitch further on. Happy knitting :-)

Sure. The tutorial is at www.10rowsaday.com/m1increase Have fun :-)
to create this increased edge, do you increase when you are on the wrong side as well?
It depends on the instructions in the pattern you follow when you work on a project. In most cases, the increases are done on the right side of the work unless your patterns tells you otherwise. Happy knitting :-)
This episode is a definite keeper. I understand what you said, I think I "get it" and then I forget how it goes. Then I repeat the video...
It'a good thing about videos, Anne - you can always repeat them :-)
In my pattern when I come to the M1R and M1L there are 2 bars between my stitches, what should I do?
Please, email me a photo of the place that has two bars and I'll do my best to help you figure out what to do. My email is maryna @ 10rowsaday.com Thank you :-)
Would u do the same if you’re Russian knitting?
Yes, because these increases are formed from strands between the stitches, and not from the stitches themselves, they work the same in classic and in Eastern (Russian) knitting.
