Lol When your cat covered your face, it actually made me laugh out loud! 😆Pets are such great friends. I have the SHJ Box fabric as well Luan, and I have no idea if I'll ever use it. The colors go beautifully with your hair! It's such fab fabric though. When I use it, it will def be out of my comfort zone.😹 Honestly, I think the pressing the waist seam toward the bodice is one of those industry standards kind of thing. I think it's used more for when a bodice has a lining and you place the lining edge over the stitch line of the seam to then tack/sew it closed. ?? You press it wherever your heart desires Luan!

The fleur is lovely. Regarding the direction of ironing the seam allowance, if you press it towards the flat fabric of the body the gathers will hang more smoothly. If you iron towards the peplum the gathers will stick out more fuffily. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well but the bulk of the seam allowance pressed down behind the gathers will puff out the peplum. Giver Tigger a big smoochy kiss from me!

On the gathers, I think it's like in a quilt... the more seams there are on one side of the seam, the more the fabric wants to be pressed to the other side. It lays flatter because the more bulky side doesn't have to make a turn back around toward the gathers or extra seams. The fabric kind of thinks it's rude to make it gather and then turn around and be pressed back toward the gathers to make things puffier. The bows turned out great, Antonia

Hi, I love your Fleur! I looked at the instructions a couple of days ago and saw the ties are put on at the beginning so can understand not wanting to change it. However it looks great, no changes required, unless you want to size down next time ❤
Loving a week of videos it’s like catching up with a friend. The fleur looks amazing and I’m the same if I didn’t have to wear a uniform I would wear leopard print everyday it’s my fav neutral 😝

Learned to sew with big4 a million years ago and still do use them some. Always check the finished garment measurements on the pattern tissue to determine which size I want to use. Hi Ruan, another lovely make. Bows look brill, it would be a no vote on black bows for me, but I guess you don’t know until you try it. Seam up or down - I think it’s to do with the hanging on the finished garment. Pressing up makes the frill flow in a natural straight line. Whereas pressing down the gathering comes out then falls over the seam. If that makes sense. It’s like having a hook at the top of rather than a straight falling line. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for your tips on how you keep my over locker clean. I’ve also found a brilliant piece of kit …. the flash dust mops. They work like the microfibre cloths. I don’t use the wand, just the cloth that slides on to the wand. I fluff it out then role it up loosely. You have to be careful to avoid the fine little hook inside by the looper needles as the fine fibres of cloth can get caught. But it takes away all the very small dust fibres in one wipe. Takes away all the crud that builds up on the knife blades, and a wipe of the machine and it’s like new. I use it on my main sewing machine too! You can use one cloth over and over and the refill boxes come in 10’s. Happy days!!!
Ruan, I’m new to your channel and I am enjoying it thoroughly. As a suggestion, have you ever tried a love notions pattern? They’re my new favourite with each pattern coming in a complete size range from smallest to largest with full bust adjustments and best of all every Friday, One of their patterns is on sale for five dollars US. 🇨🇦
The reason the seam on the waist is sewn/pressed up is the lower bodice is usually flat , so tighter, it allows the extra fabric of the gathers to flow and not be restricted by a flat bodice. Hope that makes sense.
Love your chatty vlogs. They are my no.1 go-to when I need to stop over-thinking and just chill. Didn't like Fleur pattern at first but seeing your leopard print viscose version am changing my mind but would def swap bows for buttons with rouleau loops.
Love the Fleur & agree it gives a totally different look in viscose. Re the shoulder, I think you should wear it first & see what you think is a few days time. The dress you had on at the start looks lovely on you. I had the same fabric from SHJ box & it wouldn’t have been one I would have chosen either - however you have reignited my interest in it so will need to look some pattern options. Apparently pressing upwards is so that you do not flatten the gathers and when you press the gathers you’ll just gently put the iron into the gathers. I DID NOT KNOW THAT. So thanks.. made me go and check

Love your new top..it suits you so well. I always press away from the bulk or fullness. There’s much more fabric in the gathers than the top so maybe that’s why the pattern suggests pressing the seam upwards.

Thanks for another daily chat! 😁 To me, the challenge with SA is probably the difference in some of the terms, and minimal words. With commercial patterns, and after 30-ish years using them with great success, I just couldn't get them to fit anymore. Both have a lot of their general sewing information before the actual instructions start, and on the pattern pieces themselves rather than in the step-by-step. Have fun! 🥰 Yes!! Sewing up the bulky fabrics! 🤣🤣 That's exactly why the last fabric I picked up to cut was this huge pile of double gauze that is soon to be 2 sets of Agnes PJs and 2 pj shorts for the Granddaughters!

I love that Fleur blouse. I think that it looks lovely on you. As for the peplum seam, it's the same as adding a skirt, You're supposed to press the seam up. Don't ask me why but I think it's because it sits better, though I may be wrong. It's actually one of the few sewing 'rules' that I follow 😂
Hi Ruan loving your daily vlogs, but I’m texting to ask for help. I bought some Maraflex thread to stitch the neck line on my T-shirt . However it is skipping stitches on the spool side, the underneath of the fabric. Do you know how I correct this. I’m so disappointed as I was so excited to try the new thread that everyone is raving about. 😢 Keep up the great vlogs you make my day x
@@susanknight1784 oh no. Have you put Maraflex in the bobbin too? You can also increase your stitch length a little bit too. And make sure you’re using a jersey needle. Hope that works xx

I think stitching the seam up towards the flat material, away from the ruffle is actually because it looks neater and you don‘t flatten the gathers.

Thanks for another daily chat! 😁 To me, the challenge with SA is probably the difference in some of the terms, and minimal words. With commercial patterns, and after 30-ish years using them with great success, I just couldn't get them to fit anymore. Both have a lot of their general sewing information before the actual instructions start, and on the pattern pieces themselves rather than in the step-by-step. Have fun! 🥰
Yes!! Sewing up the bulky fabrics! 🤣🤣 That's exactly why the last fabric I picked up to cut was this huge pile of double gauze that is soon to be 2 sets of Agnes PJs and 2 pj shorts for the Granddaughters!

Yes it has a lower neckline. It has different sleeves too and no placket down the section with the ties. It’s a lovely pattern x
😂 the cat! Top looks fab, ties look much happier now...I often bring the shoulder in a cm when they are pouffy so my broad shoulders sit more in the pouf iyswim? You could always pin it and see?

love the new top like you id expect to press the sa down after all the the sa is pressed towards the sleeve at the armhole and that often has gathers. happy to see the cat 😽🐈
I love that Fleur blouse. I think that it looks lovely on you. As for the peplum seam, it's the same as adding a skirt, You're supposed to press the seam up. Don't ask me why but I think it's because it sits better, though I may be wrong. It's actually one of the few sewing 'rules' that I follow 😂

Hi Ruan loving your daily vlogs, but I’m texting to ask for help. I bought some Maraflex thread to stitch the neck line on my T-shirt . However it is skipping stitches on the spool side, the underneath of the fabric. Do you know how I correct this. I’m so disappointed as I was so excited to try the new thread that everyone is raving about. 😢 Keep up the great vlogs you make my day x
@@susanknight1784 oh no. Have you put Maraflex in the bobbin too? You can also increase your stitch length a little bit too. And make sure you’re using a jersey needle. Hope that works xx

Good morning, I’ve just had my cuppa watching your update, kids aren’t up yet (woohoo! So I kept the video quiet). I’m on holiday in two weeks so have plans to finish the waist band on some shots and then I’m attempting the McCalls tiered dress pattern that was a free gift from minerva last year I think. 😊
