Delves into repertoire so rare from russian performers ! Would love to hear him in Ravel and Bartok ? Maybe earlier he programmed the Webern Variazonen ? He also creates magic in live performance as so many videos attest here ! What a master .Now with Argerich ,Schiff ,Kocsis just died maybe Pires .One of the true greats of the ww2 generation!

I’d never heard of Rameau (or Sokolov) until Vikingur Olafsson’s Rameau/Debussy album. His approach is totally different, but I’m so glad it led me to videos like this one.
This performance is unparalleled, but I will say the consistency of the tempo is not an obvious necessity. Hen's are sporadic; I think it can be played as such.
I've seen him perform live twice but it was too exhausting, emotionally draining (my fault, not Mr Sokolov's), his playing is just too intense for me to watch live, it's like he sucks you in!
