I've been doing this for a lot of years (1994) and one thing I've learned.... This shit ain't easy. Cakewalk is no cakewalk. Every time I have upgraded I am presented with a new set of problems. Things that used to operate one way, operate differently on the new DAW. Hot keys that made my workflow almost effortless now cause different things to happen. And this frustration comes AFTER finally getting the other hardware and software to be recognized by the new DAW. I can't begin to count the times that any musical inspiration has been extinguished and replace with total frustration just trying to figure out how to get the ideas in my head onto the HD. All of that to say that this: I don't need the latest and greatest ANYTHING. If I have something that is working and I'm able to get work done with the least amount of frustration, I'll keep using it as long as I can. This however, was a pretty significant upgrade for me. A new laptop, a new DAW, beginning to use almost all plug-ins instead of MIDI modules. It's a lot to learn, and I'm thinking it will be worth it once over the hump of the learning curve which is pretty steep even with the help that I have (friends) and tutorials such as this one. I appreciate you taking the time to go through this robust program and I intend to watch all of the series several times, as well as keep them on hand for referencing.
I hear you brother. They need to make DAWs more intuitive for us musicians. We have songs to write and don't want to spend time on all of these high level production and editing features.

This is a tutorial to introduce you to the program not to teach you about music theory and basic nomenclature of audio enginnering so if you don't understand most of what the commands he's explaining do you should first go back and try to learn about that with tutorials/courses that are about these subjects and then come back here.
Maybe you should look for a tutorial on how to make tutorials. I've watched all 4 of them and I still can't do anything more than the basics that I found by intuition. Or call it "overview".
Does anyone know if using some generic video/course on producing music in a DAW would help? I had to stop to google "track lanes", and I'm pretty sure I will be searching for things every 10 minutes. I don't know what the best way is to learn this stuff.
I just want to know the setting that I need to get sound when I press a key on my midi. Dear God, can somebody just tell me that. I've looked at every single daw and midi video on youtube.
How can i use one shot audio samples in Cakewalk? In Fl Studio you can just drag and drop samples in the step sequencer but Cakewalk doesn't let you do that. Is there way to use audio samples in the step sequencer in Cakewalk?
Arming - If you already have a number of tracks, and you want to record on one of them, Cakewalk needs to to know WHICH track you want to record on. It will record on ALL armed tracks. So be careful to only arm the one(s) you want to record on, or else you'll be recording on/over tracks you may not want recorded on. automation allows you to make adjustments to tracks while they are playing and cakewalk remembers those adjustments and "performs" them again on future playback.
I've been wondering why these DAWs are all so horrifically complicated to use. I think it is because they were developed by software engineers for sound engineers to use. Unfortunately in 2020, there is no money in music, so no budget for sound engineers. Us poor musicians now have to learn how to be sound engineers in our spare time and for free. It would be great if Cakewalk could create a simplified version of their software for us musicians.

hello i installed cakewalk and imported a midi track but i am not hearing anything when i click the play. i see the track moving and i see response in the sound meter but i am not hearing any thing, how do i solve this ?
the moment i open a projekt all my audio gets fucked up and i cant use youtube (audioline missing please restart your pc) and my team speak which totaly gets fucked up and cant use any of my mics or speakers this program is so fucking scuffed
To give you an idea of why this video isn't as helpful as it could be, let's take an example. If I import a solo track and want to use an effect on it, what is the sequence of events? Do I have to click on the FX button and then go to Add Effects and choose one, or the other way around? Or just add the effect without clicking on the FX button? I suggest tackling one subject at a time, rather than trying to do so much that a beginner is going to learn nearly nothing, but thanks for your effort.
Man, please. I need help! I've done so many things and my CWBB is still in demo mode. I've installed, uninstalled, then reinstalled like 5 times, always logged into my account and still in demo mode. What's going on?
I just downloaded and installed the app and I have the full version. Since this is all new since April it may be that there was a glitch at the time you tried. Try again and see how it goes.
I used cake walk sonar 4 for years. I recently downloaded this one. I don't like it that much but it is the future. My biggest complaint is that they put the mouse functions on the F keys, F7, F8 etc. Back in sonar 4, 'e' was erase, 'd' was draw. 's' is select. What i'm saying is, I don't get it, I put the program on a laptop for now. The F keys are used for laptop functions like brightness, volume etc... That means I have to hold the function key on the way left and reach over to the top right of the keyboard. Not very possible unless I let go of the mouse and that would defeat the purpose of trying to use a hot key. Really really dumb in my opinion.
Great video not sure why people are confused if you don’t know what he is talking about then maybe you should watch a music production video for beginners.
Before you can understand the concepts of calculus 2, you must first take calculus 1 . . . as noted above, be patient and thorough and you will start to understand the complex slowly but surely if you are a newbie to the Cakewalk DAW. Then you will be able to have some fun with it. I remember looking at Sonar 4 for the first time . . . intimidating!
@@guitarxy1948 It's definitely a process. I've had Sonar X3 for quite some time and gave up on it for years. Now I'm slowly getting back into it. I got frustrated because instead of just making music, I was spending so much time just figuring out the software. Kind of kills the creative process. Bandlab seems very similar to Sonar so these tutorials are a help. Learning the navigation/editing tools is what I'm concentrating on right now. This is after learning how to configure my audio interface and Korg M50 keyboard, and just being able to add new tracks, and successfully being able to record my vocals with some reverb and some simple midi tracks. Drums are a whole other beast, I still have to learn about mapping drums. I have a 1000+ page book on how to use Sonar X3 so it's just a lot to learn. Terms like eq, compression, gate, etc. are completely foreign to me. I'm still just scratching the surface. Recording my music should be fun, but learning how to use the software is hard work.
Pablo Cancinos I’ve been making Cakewalk tutorials for a long time and I have to say, these vids are really on point man. Great to see others teaching about this powerful DAW!
Sorry but if you were standing before a group of students wishing to learn this subject , they would have walked out on you after just a few minutes .You make it like your reading from a tax return .
i just want to put sound samples on a timeline and make a song.. why it this so fucking hard?!? any other programs that are not made to create actual music? i just want to do fucking psystyle music becouse no fucking artist makes 3/4 beat hardstyle music
I just downloaded it and was following along until you got to input monitoring for the tracks. I dont have that in my version of the software. Also others are right, you are going so quickly your video is next to useless.
Please treat us all as neanderthal's and slow down and make about a 100 videos starting from scratch and demonstrate each button with a guitar etc so we can actually see what we need to do.
I'm not sure what you are seeing, but I have the most up to date version of this software installed on my computer right now and it still looks the same as when I created this video.

What does 'arming a track' and 'automation' mean?
Arming - If you already have a number of tracks, and you want to record on one of them, Cakewalk needs to to know WHICH track you want to record on. It will record on ALL armed tracks. automation allows you to make adjustments to tracks while they are playing and cakewalk remembers those adjustments and "performs" them again on future playback.

hello i installed cakewalk and imported a midi track but i am not hearing anything when i click the play. i see the track moving and i see response in the sound meter but i am not hearing any thing, how do i solve this ?
Connect a vst
Try to adjust your drive mode from WASAPI to ASIO or MME 32 bit.
pls update desc to add the fact that this program is now PAID and not free. would appreciate that
My stuff won't sync on bandlab like it's been 2 weeks and I can't delete it can someone help me
the moment i open a projekt all my audio gets fucked up and i cant use youtube (audioline missing please restart your pc) and my team speak which totaly gets fucked up and cant use any of my mics or speakers
this program is so fucking scuffed
What's going on?
did you create a proper bandlab account or only sign in via facebook or google?
Yeah bro i can't get it out of demo.mode either and ivr been had BandLab.
What is Demo Mode? Do you have BandLab Assistant, mine says Free - Activated by BandLab Assistant
open it via the assistant
Great video
can i still use my m-audio axiom air mini 32 in cakewalk?
Of course, you can, it's a Midi controller, just make sure you click it in the Midi section in Preferences...
This is so useful. Thanks
Great video not sure why people are confused if you don’t know what he is talking about then maybe you should watch a music production video for beginners.
When you know your shit gone ride and you just need to understand the process
Informative and interesting. Thanks.
Do I need a doctorate degree to be able to record?? This video is on steroids .. you're going like a thousand miles an hour :-(
Before you can understand the concepts of calculus 2, you must first take calculus 1 . . . as noted above, be patient and thorough and you will start to understand the complex slowly but surely if you are a newbie to the Cakewalk DAW.
Recording my music should be fun, but learning how to use the software is hard work.
mr. jinks that’s my problem. I get frustrated because I have to learn the software and I feel like it does slow me down from making the music
Pablo Cancinos I’ve been making Cakewalk tutorials for a long time and I have to say, these vids are really on point man. Great to see others teaching about this powerful DAW!

Bro....you need to slow down, alright. Try to cover one small portion at a time. You are just flying every where bro..
You haven't left the link in the description but thanks.......
Can you remove vocals on this program ?
I'm not sure. I've never used it for that. But if you need something free to do that, you can try Audacity.
You need to create another video for Dummies. Love to uses program, but it is very complicated.
🔥
yes but I cannot hear ANYTHING
i have the same problem! If you find out anything please tell me!
God bless you
Sorry but if you were standing before a group of students wishing to learn this subject , they would have walked out on you after just a few minutes .You make it like your reading from a tax return .
Errrrm ain't got a clue what you just talked about . How do I make a tune on it
i just want to put sound samples on a timeline and make a song.. why it this so fucking hard?!? any other programs that are not made to create actual music? i just want to do fucking psystyle music becouse no fucking artist makes 3/4 beat hardstyle music
you never left the link
I just downloaded it and was following along until you got to input monitoring for the tracks. I dont have that in my version of the software. Also others are right, you are going so quickly your video is next to useless.
Ok I sort of fighured it out. When I go into Advanced I see the input monitoring....unfortunately your video fails on explaining this.
Please treat us all as neanderthal's and slow down and make about a 100 videos starting from scratch and demonstrate each button with a guitar etc so we can actually see what we need to do.
bro whatever you are showing 60% is not in my cakewalk sofware
I'm not sure what you are seeing, but I have the most up to date version of this software installed on my computer right now and it still looks the same as when I created this video.
@@YourHomeRecording i agree with Pramod Karanam, just downloaded and installed 14/10/2020 half the tools/buttons are not there compared to what is shown in your tutorial.
I see bandlab logo and think bandaid
My layout is so different and lame
David Cogan your on bandlab, not cakewalk by bandlab😂😂
didnt open like my download
If you’re having issues with installation, we have a new video on the channel covering how to install Cakewalk.
Me is confusion🥴🤯
You should hire for a job like manual reader. Don't you think that people are able to read by themselves?
It doesn't seem like a cake walk...
