These sound nice for special purposes, but the price tag is the same as with finished crashes. Ridicilous. Most of the price of a cymbal comes from the craft and manufacturing process, theres no way these should cost this much. Just Zildjian hype prices i guess.
The marketing budget of Zildjian is not inconsiderable (inc all the artists they support worldwide). The manufacturing cost of each cymbal regardless of finish is probably not that much and controlled mostly by the price of metal and energy. I do think these would be a personal choice for sound and aesthetics and not something I would choose.
Hey there! Despite their name, the Raw Crashes actually take longer to make and pass through more hands in the process than other cymbals. Because these are not lathed, any flaws that exist in the rolled casting are going to be part of the finished cymbal. For this reason, only the most ideal rolled castings are hand-selected to become Raw Crashes. Their edges are also hand trimmed to eliminate any gaps that naturally occur during the rolling process. All this to say, the sound may be "Raw" but the process is still very much labor intensive. 😊
Sooooo basically $300 to return to the crash sound of that $75 starter drum kit you bought from a yard sale/pawn shop when you first started out. Lol 😂
Hey there! The FX Raw Crashes are not trimmed into perfect circles. The variations in profile, shape, size, and edge consistency are what create the wildly individual sounds from one crash to the next. You can learn more here: zildjian.com/fx-raw-crashes-1.html
You guys should market these as dry rides of some sort. They seem to fit that sonic profile a little more than a crash…which is something you want to be reliable, space filling and decay-oriented.
So basically what he is saying is they didn’t do anything to the sheet of metal that they normally do to a normal cymbal and charging same price for basically barely any work done into making this sheet of metal. They should’ve made these half the price and they would be a cool little effect cymbal or dry ride but no way I’m paying the same price as a normal finished cymbal for these.
Hey, customer is king but A: you're actually selling unfinished stuff at a high end price, so viva financial margin B: yes every cymbal is unique, but it's quite already the case. Conclusion : of course the cymbals are good, you know how to make them. Please sell them at an affordable price already
What a brilliant idea. Lets take a bunch of our reject crap, that's to out of shape to make round or lathe, call them custom and charge a fortune for them. Oh yeah and say each has a unique sound and is 'OFFICALLY' part of our range.
Which might make sense if they didn't recycle all the rejects. Although, I can imagine this product was envisaged by someone trying a "reject" and making thr case they should sell such a product.
“Too out of shape” this is impossible, every cymbal can be trimmed and shaped with their press. This was inspired by drummers who toured their factory, and as they listened to the raw unlathed blanks, they realized that it could be a cool addition to the catalog.

I would actually guess these have more manufacturing process rather than their general lathe/molds. These would have a very fine line in term of shape between sounding cool and being garbage. I highly doubt these are random uniquely shaped

God they sound so bad. Zildjian sucks at making raw/dry cymbals. Leave that to Meinl and Istanbul. Focus on making your refined flashy rock cymbals. This is kind of embarrassing tbh.

Not saying that this balances the production cost, but I guess for these cymbals the storage and transport cost more, because of irregular shape.
