This is actually a good idea. I might have to try it out this year for the inflatables we have in the front yard. I usually stick a rubber floor mat over it and it does ok. But I've been happy doing that.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I put mine in a sandwich plastic bag and tape the ends. Been doing it for years and have never had a failure. Like your idea too.
They make outdoor cord outlet covers. Believe home depot sells them along with others. I have several sizes. They are waterproof for many cords in one ground box, and several for inline cord waterproof covers.
Doug you can spray paint the bottles to blend in to the surrounding

I thought you were going to put a magnet in a bottle and use it to pick up metal shavings that can be easily shaken off over a trashcan like @sixtyfiveford. Good solution, hopefully condensation inside the bottles doesn't make things worse. The tree is pretty smart looking.

That was great! Love the Yankee ingenuity. Thanks too for the beautiful Silent Night. Franz Gruber outdid himself with that beautiful hymn. I remember when our son would come home from college for Christmas, we’d be decorating the tree in anticipation of his arrival. One of my favorites was a really neat song by Chris Rea. It was call “Driving Home For Christmas”. It’s the only Christmas song he’s done. He wrote it on the way home after his wife picked him up at the airport after a tour. Watching all the cars and faces inspired him. See you in the next episode! 😊

Is that a Conneaut Lake Christmas tree? Or is that your own DIY light up tree?
That is my own I built. The Conneaut lake trees are ridiculously expensive! I hear they’re up over $1000. I made my own bracket for the top of the flagpole and just strung the lights down. Plus I made mine way taller and bigger.
A lot of work for when a few wraps of electrical tape will do. That's how I insulate the sockets and plugs outdoors.
Did I mention most of my lights stay out all year? I just replace the tape if if it dries out or gets damaged.
You're overthinking the solution to a problem. No that your idea is bad.
Putting lights up for Christmas is the fun part, taking them down every year is a PITA, so most of mine stay up all year.
Yes but unwrapping that tape sucks. The water bottles were just going to get thrown away and they sure were easy to throw a zip tie on.

Just curious: is tap water not drinkable where you are? I find it tastes worse in plastic bottles..
Our tap water isn’t the best to drink. It’s safe, I just like mine from a bottle better.

@@OneEyeCustoms I was just thinking about that. You could use a 3/4" wooden dowel, zip tie the plug to it, then zip tie bottle over it. Might be easier for some folks.
