Hi Doug! I don’t know about any else, but this is a keeper video that needs to be saved. I am a green welder want to be. I know there are experts out there as well as welding virgins like myself. So stay tuned to Doug’s channel, One Eyed Customs when class will resume. Thank you Doug!

Great video Doug! I know this one is more on the tig welding, but I heard mention about the stick welding. Electrode positive or electrode negative depends on which stick electrode you're using(6010, 6011, 6013, 7018,) Most have it on the can or box DCEN(electrode negative) or DCEP ( electrode positive). Just thought I'd try to help.

Doug 15 degrees or 30 degrees is recommended for sharpening tungsten . Thats just for the 2% red or thoriated and grey is ceriated . Aluminum is green . Aluminum needs to be very clean for welding and doesn't like to be dirty you will know when you start to weld it! . Been a tig welder for 25+ years if you have any questions just reach out. Seems like they provided everything but the gas and the wire. There is all sort of wires for all different metals. Doug can't wait to see how it runs. 👍

Great stuff with the video! We're actually gearing up for similar guides to help out the beginner, and you, Doug, are a step ahead. I do appreciate it. Regarding the choice of tungsten needles, I have some reference opinions here. Green tungsten electrodes typically contain the rare earth element lanthanum and are suitable for welding direct current circuits. Red tungsten electrodes contain thorium, making them suitable for direct current circuits but with higher radioactivity. Gray tungsten electrodes are suitable for alternating current circuits, while blue tungsten electrodes, being a multi-alloy type, are versatile for welding various metals.

Arccaptain is a Chinese company that makes a decent product. There's no money in it for them to expend the resources to make a video. There's a few factors that go into that: There's already a plethora of resources on YT, forums, etc. A lot of people buying these machines are already familiar with TIG welding from work and want an inexpensive machine for home use. The video would tend to be machine specific, and it may no longer be applicable to newer machines, or confusing if they revised an existing machine. Even companies like Miller and Lincoln don't give much in the way of a manual beyond the basic function of the controls. The introduction of affordable inverter style machines have made TIG welding very accessible. After looking around a while, you'll notice there are a lot of companies selling nearly identical machines, just in different colors. They're all made by one factory and then private labeled, then sold at the ideal markup vs volume curve to maximize profitability. They're going to put the minimum amount of money and effort into a product to get that return.

You do a great job of showing the process in a honest and down to earth way that keeps it all grounded for many. We learn together approach. Keeping it real and honest. 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for the memories Doug. 50 years ago I worked for a company that fabricated pipes, tanks and assorted vessels for the chemical industry. Dupont, US Metals, International Paper and even the Gov't Military defence. We dealt strictly with Titanium and all welding was Tig. It amazed me to watch the welders, torch in right hand and wire feeder in the left hand and 2 pedals on the floor. That company developed a way to weld Titanium in an open area without the weld being contaminated.

Well, guess I need to watch this. I skimmed through the video looking for when you started to weld and never saw any welding. I'm a nub at welding. I purchased a YesWelder FIRSTESS MP200 5-in-1 Welder & Cutter about a year ago. I'm starting up a hobby farm with my son, his wife and 5 kids so knew I'd need a welder for something around the farm. Saw this welder when it was first coming out and took a chance on it because it has everything. Well, I've done a bit of mig welding, but still have to buy a gas tank to do anything else. Very interested in learning about all types of welding (I'm a hobby woodworker, so welding is very similar except you get to add material back and grind it back down if/when you screw up 🙂). I love your channel and have learned a ton about efficiency through how you've organized your shop. Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to seeing the follow-on video's.

The main thing is clean the mill scale and rust off of the mild steel .The same with stainless and aluminum. Use a flapper wheel. Do not cross contaminate with the grinding or flapper wheels. Use argon ...Use the green banded /tungsten electrode for aluminum form a ball on the end., red band /thoriated electrode for mild or stainless sharpen to a elongated taper .Good luck...

I'm curious how it'll do. I've tried doing some flux core mig welding - I end up with a bunch of boogers all over but I have managed to make some metal stick together pretty decently so I'm not all that bad I guess? I just have a cheapo harbor freight (well Princess Auto up here in Canada) flux core machine that runs on 120V. We had a nice tig machine at the local makerspace when I was still going and there was a guy there that could make some beautiful stuff with it, but I was too chicken to try and I'm kicking myself for it. Props to you for grabbing the bull by the horns and going for it Doug - and starting with the hardest to weld first.

Good morning Doug, this does look intimidating, this. Welder probably stays in the corner of the workshop while the owner gains the confidence to take the first steps. It almost feels like there should be an online training portal to facilitate a new owner, there might be a need for a step by step sheet. I guess the company thinks everyone has attended an applicable shop class. Some Dougification required. 😀👍😖👍😖👍😖

I do have a question, and bear with me 'cos it may be a typical woman's view, but... On the front of the bench when you emptied the box is a white booklet labelled Operators Manual. Did that not contain the information you needed as to what was what, where it went, and how to use it?
