Awesome!!! I’m making this on the coming weekend. I’ve been making Probiotic Sparkling Apple Juice using Sacchormyces boulardi. Which is great stuff. I also make my own yogurts using various microbes for gut health. This is so great to hear. Thank you!! 🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼
Wow i heard about using water from yougrt as a starter for fermentation... I just never heard it on youtube. That is awesome your tips are truly real and practical. No fake. I love it the lord blesses us with your wisdom. Father thank you and amen.
There's another option called a "ginger bug" that I use for homemade sodas. If you've ever had/made a sourdough starter it's the same basic concept - using the natural yeast in the air to create a starter. Just need ginger, water and sugar. We love making sparkling cider!!
Thank you so much Carolyn! ❤ Sparkling cider is my absolute favorite drink! I always have to wait until our local farmers make it when apples are ready to be picked. I never thought about making it but how simple and definitely worth it.🍎
Looks really great and healthy🙏👍 Just one note; exchangeably is not a word. Interchangeably is the one. For those who care about these types of things.❤️
You can also achieve the same thing with juice and a Florastor tablet (Sacchormyces boulardi). Tree Top makes a "cloudy" apple juice. I put that in a 1/2 gallon mason jar and add one Florastor tablet and a burp lid. Wait 48 hours and you have a fermented healthy probiotic drink. Use a little of the first batch to start the second. Very easy to do.
That sounds yummy. I will try it and add some nice seasonal spices to it like cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. Can't wait to get my hands on some apple juice. I find a pinch of salt in anything sweet actually enhances the flavour without being detectable as salt. My mother always added a little salt to coffee when she was brewing it. Best coffee ever.
This sounds so yummy. I make your fermented cranberry sauce every year now as soon as the fresh cranberries are put on the shelf. It is wonderful. Thank you so much for all the knowledge you share with us.
My Mom and I used to get fresh cider (before people started pasteurizing it) and let it start to work - in the fridge we would enjoy it before it got hard. We would save about a cup of that and add fresh apple juice. We could keep it for a couple of months without it going hard.
That's so easy! It does kind of irritate me that I haven't done it, lol! Did you remodel your new kitchen to look like your old one?! It feels like we're back at the old homestead!
How long will this keep in the fridge before turning too far or needing to be burped regularly? I'm wondering if I can make a few gallons at the start of the month and then chill them down or is it really something that needs to be made and used in a shorter window of time?
Hi Carolyn I have a question. About a year ago I made apple cider vinegar just like it showed me on whatever I watched. I bottled it like it said in an old Bragg vinegar jar put the lid on tight I just now opened it 2023 and it’s fizzy like soda. Did I do something wrong? Do I need to let it sit and air get to it will it still turn into vinegar help! It also has the mother in the bottle
Could I freeze the juice till December defrost in the refrigerater the night before and make it the day before I need to use the drink? This is because I have a abundance of apples right now. Also how many days can I store the finish product before it starts to become alcoholic? Would I burp daily? Or is this not an option
I had / have a half gallon of organic apple juice in a gallon glass jar. My frig had a power outage for a couple days so I am cleaning the whole thing.. I cracked the top of the gallon jug and it popped and the inside bubble up 4-5 inches to the top. Maybe I'll smell and taste it .. maybe it already alive too when bottled... ????
You can can your juice tho, and just start a new jug of cider as you run out of the old one. Then you can preserve your juice, but still have fresh cider with probiotics all the time
So, I tried this with a new bottle of store-bought Kombucha, left on my warm counter, close to our stove, and it didn't work. The next day I added more, and still nothing. Any ideas on what happened? It was a pop top plastic apple cider bottle instead of twist top. Do you think that could do it?
I learned how to do this last summer and I'm having a ball making drinks. I cut my outrageous regular soda pop consumption by 90%. I went cold turkey at first, fully expecting to have an awful headache for days, but it didn't happen. I have a ginger bug and a fermentation starter made from grapes that I'm playing with. I brought a piece of a bottle of flat Coke home from a family get together intending to pour in in the commode and let it cut some calcium build up. Instead I thought I wonder and used 10 ounces of it and 2 ounces of the grape starter. I also use a dozen or so grains of yeast, but it is only going to sit overnight. Someone I know with a hydrometer measured it and it was about 1/2% alcohol; less than vanilla flavoring even, but easily left out, if you're concerned. Blew me away delicious. Any kind of fruit juice, Kool Aid, even just sparkling water with a hint of grape.
I know you've discussed the differences between apple cider/hard cider in this & past videos, but I have a question. I live in in the U.S in Texas, and anytime we use the term "apple cider", it's always in reference to apple juice that has been heated up & infused with the warm spices (cloves, cinnamon, etc) & citrus peel. So if I am understanding this correctly, when you are using apple cider in this recipe, you are just using apple juice (apples, water, sugar). Right?
Fresh apple cider is just the liquid (juice) that comes out of the apple pulp without cooking. A cider press takes the crushed apples and squeezes the juice out of them. That juice is fresh cider. No added water nor sugar.
I tried this with whey from yogurt and it didn’t get real fizzy and had a sour milk taste a couple days later. Perhaps it needs to be drunk up right away?
Great recipe! Excited to have a fermented drink that is alcohol free! Also, having a fermentation starter on hand for general use would be a great option instead of having to run to the store. Heidi from Rain Country Homestead talks about how she makes and maintains one in this video ruclips.net/video/0RWZvvNESNU/видео.html
Would you please play a game with and ditch the plastic bottle and go for glass thier is a burp valve you can get ,but get heavy glass with metal food grade lid , no problem ,I'm 80 and a kid all the mountain folks done this with all kinds of herbs and berry's ,all plastic is harmful to our selves ,not a good choice 😀
Uhh, you do realize that the fermentation process does turn the sugars into alcohol; to suggest this is non-alcoholic is wrong. Also, over time (while in the bottle), particularly if not refrigerated, it will totally carbonate and turn to hard apple cider

does the ginger change the flavor of the soda?

That’s great! Here in France we have hard cider, but non-alcoholic probiotic cider? Perfect!

I am making it for this Thanksgiving
That looks amazing! I will be trying that this year for sure! Yummy!
I love the idea of using whey from yogurt as the starter. I'll have to try that.
I love this! So simple. I’m going to try this for Christmas 🎄 Thanks!❤️👏🏾👍🏾🙏🏾❤️

Merry Christmas! You and your family are a blessing to many!
Looking forward to making some. Thanks Carolyn! Merry Christmas!
Made it and it’s good!!! Thank you!!! Can we use any kind of juice? Much easier than the kombucha we make. 😀🥇👏
I just came across your channel! I
That looks so easy that I believe this guy could do it. I love cider and I am going to try to make this. Thanks
God Bless you and your family! Merry Christmas!! :-)
Love you guys, MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!.
I love tbis!
I use saccharomyces boulardii for starter.
I made this for my kiddos and they loved it!
Could i use the fresh pressed juice that has fermented to make bread?
Thanks. Make own ginger ale. Will try Apple. Thanks.
I can’t wait to try this!!! I have made the Parker house sourdough rolls... they turned out fantastic, thank you 😊
Great idea :) I am going to try this for sure! Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you! You're amazing!!
Great Cover Image!! I love this channel because of the passion of Josh & Carolyn for their endeavors.
That's so easy! It does kind of irritate me that I haven't done it, lol! Did you remodel your new kitchen to look like your old one?! It feels like we're back at the old homestead!
For how long can it be kept in the fridge before it goes alkoholic or completely off?
Can’t wait to try this!
Yum, excited to make and drink. Thank you!
Simple and depicious!
How long would it take to make apple cider vinegar from apple cider purchase from the marketplace?
This looks super delicious and easy!! I’m going to try it! 💛💛
Your right, that's way to simple!!! Now to get some apple juice!
How do we extract juice from Apple if we don't have hydraulic press machine.
How long will this keep in the fridge before turning too far or needing to be burped regularly? I'm wondering if I can make a few gallons at the start of the month and then chill them down or is it really something that needs to be made and used in a shorter window of time?
This is exactly what I came back to this video to check on; thanks for asking!
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Wonderful!!

How can you dilute the sugars?
I'm curious if I can use my Bubbie's fermented pickle juice for this? Thanks so much for this video...can't wait to try it!
Would Combucha work as a Starter?
Carolyn, I have a ginger bug that I make fermented ginger ale with - would that work?
If we put a balloon on top instead of a lid does it still fizz?
Will water kefir work
Could i use kombucha as my starter liquid?
Braedyn Crouse yes!
Can I use kombucha starter
How long will it last in the fridge with out exploding even in the plastic container. Can you make a quart of it won’t keep long?
Could you use kefir grains or kefir water to do the ferment?
Could Kombucha be used as the probiotic? This looks delicious!!!
Could I freeze the juice till December defrost in the refrigerater the night before and make it the day before I need to use the drink? This is because I have a abundance of apples right now.
Also how many days can I store the finish product before it starts to become alcoholic? Would I burp daily? Or is this not an option
Could you get the same effect by using a bit of live or activated yeast?
Could you add the powder probiotics from a capsule or Kombucha.
Can you pasteurize it after carbonating it?
Can I use steamed apple juice - made from steaming apples
Does kombucha work for a starter liquid?
Could I use a Masontop silicone top on a canning jar for this, as it's designed for fermentation?
I was wondering that too
If you don't have any plain yogurt can you use the whey off of cottage cheese?
Yes!
Can you use homemade kombucha for a starter?
Will this work the same with grape juice? I can’t have apples, but we love sparkling grape juice!
Love the channel, is it possible to make it alcoholic without loosing the probiotics. Thanks
shannon potts no... the alcohol content kills the bacteria and yeasts.
@@HomesteadingFamily thanks for gettin back to me
Could you use active dry yeast?
Hi Carolyn - would I be able to use water kefir or whey from homemade yogurt?
jca3737 - yes to both! 😀
If you don’t have a press can you use a juicer it make your cider?
Sheila Fleming yes you can!
two questions: can the sparkling cider be preserved for long term stirage? If heated to make mulled cider will it lose its probiotic quality?
1) Not unless you keep it very cool but not freezing and 2) yes. Heating it kills the beneficial bacteria.
You can can your juice tho, and just start a new jug of cider as you run out of the old one. Then you can preserve your juice, but still have fresh cider with probiotics all the time

Can you use the whey from homemade yogurt?
Can I use water kefir?
Can i use kombucha as the probiotic starter? Not the mother, just the tea.
Very cool! So, could you use a ACV?
Jennifer Sinclair no- that would make more ACV !
@@HomesteadingFamily lol! I was wondering that... Oh well...
You can prob just add store bought Kombucha to your cider for the probiotics.

Homesteading Family- glad I asked first! 😆
I tried this with whey from yogurt and it didn’t get real fizzy and had a sour milk taste a couple days later. Perhaps it needs to be drunk up right away?
can you juice apples yourself? Most ciders at store are pasteurized. I believe it's a law where we live.
phillip dodd yes you can!
Why can you not use Greek yogurt?
Greek yogurt has already been strained and won't give you much whey to work with.
What about some homemade kombucha? Could you add that?
3:04 This could probably work for a sourdough levain...
Thank you thank you for addressing the cider-juice difference. Weird ol' Yankees abusing borrowed terminology again LOL. :-D
What about no 'ATES' or 'ITES' in the apple juice ingredients lists?
👍👍👍👌☺️
Great recipe! Excited to have a fermented drink that is alcohol free! Also, having a fermentation starter on hand for general use would be a great option instead of having to run to the store. If I had the money I would pay you for your pantry inventory!
Wine is a mocker strong drink( alcoholic) is raging and whosoever is decieved thereby Iis not wise.
This is non-alcoholic.
Yum! Throw some stolichnya vodka in that bich and make some russian apple juice lmao. Farm made apple cider is so much richer
Tried this.... failed miserably!!! Lol
