Sir Ian Botham a proper Legend played the game naturally without any fear. Just a pleasure to witness playing for county side and international, flamboyant stlyle. Top Man 🏏✨😎
As an Australian didn't like ian as a cricketer cause he always gave us headaches but really admire and love what he has done for lukemia and cancer suffers
You take Botham out of cricket you leave a massive hole magnificent allrounder super competitive and all the work that he does behind the scenes great man
One of the greatest cricketer of all time. A cricketer who can win matches by bowling batting or fielding.Good slip fielder also. Once in 100 years only such greats will be born
One of his most memorable test match which was played in Wankhede stadium between India n England . It was 50th test match (Golden Jubilee Test)in which Ian made his team winner all most single handed. He took 12 wickets(7 in first inning n 5 in second inning) then 114 runs .Vishwanath was Indian skipper.Bob tailor was given out but Vishwanath didn't accept this decision n called back him .Ian n tailor both played historical game n conveyed their team to a respectable score.England won the test n Ian eventually was declared man of the match.I recall that match as is I have seen that match recently.
I remember watching the 1981 test series as a boy of 11,it was on BBC 1 then and cost nothing to watch, I loved test cricket This was the first time I ever witnessed an all rounder like Ian botham, Was a brilliant era for cricket, Bob willis was fantastic too... We all would copy his bowling style Ian botham was a English legend,Hes humble which I think proves his greatness, I miss those days... Enjoyed the video still got the Duncan fearnley bat too🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry, you are not with the beat. He had a terrible reputation in the 1980's after his association with Tim Hudson, trying to be a Hollywood actor and then got found out for lying through his teeth for smoking cannabis on the 1982/3 tour (he tells alot of lies, the latest being he gave away all his mementoes - but then sold them all at auction!). He did a charity walk which rebuilt his reputation, and provided huge financial personal rewards to him and his greedy wife, by way of commercial contracts, TV and advertising and sponsorship. He then got a knighthood, baronhood and lordship when his entire motive was for himself. Anyone who can't see through that is a misguided fool - except his cronies, of course.
Frances Edmonds (Phil Edmonds' ex-wife) wrote a couple of books on England tours of the mid-80's. She said, of Botham. "Always be wary of someone whose weight in kilos is higher than their IQ". Honestly, not bad advice.
Beefy did get runs against the W I,but was unable to convert them into centuries. Such was Botham's profile, back then, that the W I quicks had a tendency to treat him, almost, like Tony Greig. In other words, they generally bowled faster to Botham than they did to other players. The 3 other great all - rounders of his day did not have to contend with the extra effort the W I bowlers put in against Botham. Also bear in mind that the other 3 all - rounders all scored their centuries on slow pitches, whereas Botham nearly always had to play the extreme pace of the W I on either even paced or fast pitches. Details, such as I have outlined, really do make a difference at Test level. I would still place Botham in joint first place ,amongst his rivals, along with Kapil Dev. You may have a different opinion, though!
I could not stand him when he started. He would get 5 for, bowling absolute rubbish. Then he would do it again, and again against chappell and Walters etc and eventually I thought, " there might be a bit more to this."
Ian Botham was the first superstar all-rounder I watched and instantly loved his amateur attitude towards cricket and life in general. 383 wickets and 5200 runs in test ask a lot and I must mention that what I saw on TV was the first mega star on cricket arena. Hats off
I think his short ball was quicker than his stock delivery. But the guy could swing it away - until his gut got too big and stopped him getting side on
All were special in their own way. Botham had scored more runs than the rest and only all rounder to score double century. Hadlee has taken highest wicket than rest of the others in lower test matches. Kapil and Imran were all true match winners who led from front and captained world cup wins. Imran was fastest than others. Followed by Hadlee. Kapil was highest individual ODI scorer for 9 years. Both Kapil and Imran were true champion skippers, other two didn't lead their teams.
I'd have to check up on the stats but the way I think about them is roughly: Kapil and Botham were free spirits who just enjoyed the game. Kapil looked after himself while Botham didn't and so while Kapil declined fairly slowly as he aged, Botham's performances fell off a cliff and aside from a few decent odi performances didn't really play well after 1986-7 (and he plodded on for 6 more years). Imran and Hadlee were more cerebral, Hadlee almost from the start, while Imran brought his intellect to bear a little later. Hadlee was I think probably the best bowler over his whole career, and the weakest batter. For the last few years of his career, imran's performances were unbelievable, and he seemed to get better as he aged. I think I'd give it to Imran over a whole career, but perhaps Botham reached the highest peak, when he was young and before all the beer, pies and parties got to him.

One of my heroes. When I was a kid I always wanted a Duncan Fearnley bat because Ian Botham used one.
My friend had a DF when we were kids.
Patrick Patterson is one that often get's forgotten about. Excellent bowler.
I remember his exaggerated bowling action.
Amazing person really like Ian botham he puts himself there and does it absolutely brilliant 😂😇👍
You take Botham out of cricket you leave a massive hole magnificent allrounder super competitive and all the work that he does behind the scenes great man
Thanks Ian - magnificent cricketer and a magnificent person
I was at the SCG for one of his tests he certainly hit that ball hard fantastic all rounder

Brilliant what he did made so many people happy shame he couldn't sort it out with ian chapple both top blokes 😂😇👍
Greatest Emglish cricketer of all time. As for chappell, bitter old man, cant stand him.
A true legend ON & OFF the pitch 👏🏻 🙌🏻
He is a legend
Greetings from sri lanka
Botham was the best amongst the 4, because he could win the match with his bowling or batting or both, just a shade ahead.
Could have listened to that all day. Brilliant
Great cricketer. Incidentally the most catches ever in the Ashes!
Top man Ian
LEGEND
There are few greater clashes than between Australia and the old country 🏏
What a man
Best allrounder

a nobody who did nothing, commentating on this man. Even Phil Edmonds f***ed her off
SIR BEEF, 🍺cheers .. I was at the MCG that day 80-81, I was 8 ..
14 Test centuries, nearly 400 wickets, and over 100 catches.
When you post numbers like that, you're surely made of the right stuff.
The slight skip to the pitch of the ball then the golf swing… 🚀
My cricket hero when I was growing up. What a great bloke as well. The fund raising for the lukemia charity was absolutely brilliant.
Greatest ever human being in my opinion.
Viv beefy. Wonderful example of friendship
One of the greatest Cricket IQs ever ..very clever cricketer. ..just ask Andrew Hilditch 😂😂
Never scored runs against the West Indies
Nobody did!!!

Beefy Both !!
Proper Englishman, proper rebel, pro brexit, pro England, loved him and still do 👍🏻👍🏻
lol Beefy South Africa had 3 world class all-rounders in the same team 🤣
Yeah they were magnificent in the 70s
Great cause but the Queen ?
Certainly emptied the bars when he was batting or bowling
Beefy transcended sport
I could not stand him when he started. He would get 5 for, bowling absolute rubbish. Then he would do it again, and again against chappell and Walters etc and eventually I thought, " there might be a bit more to this."
Got 383 wickets in test, couldnt be bowling rubbish all the time!!
@@ucantseeme7477 that was my point. He SEEMED to be bowling tripe. To continually get 5 for and end up with 383, he just had to be good
